JAMB Urges Candidates To Check Website For Redistribution by saintopus(op): 10:52pm On Jul 26, 2015
Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has urged the 2015 UTME candidates to check its website on Monday, August 3, for the list of universities they have been redistributed to.
Speaking with Vanguard Sunday, the Head of JAMB, Lagos, Dr. Beatrice Okorie said: “The 2015 UTME candidates are to check JAMB’s website on Monday, August 3, for the list and the universities they have been redistributed to.”
Okorie, who lamented the controversy that greeted the new admission policy explained that the efforts were only geared towards helping candidates of oversubscribed institutions gain admission to other federal or state universities rather than wasting their scores.
“If we have not done that, many of these candidates would have fallen prey of the universities’ money-making machine, that is, the post-UTME without securing admission even with their high scores,” she added.
Using the University of Lagos as an example, she noted that its carrying capacities cannot accommodate more than 5,000 students, and yet has about 32,000 candidates struggling for the slots.
She said: “What we have done is to look at those who have not met with the cut-off points of UNILAG based on merit, catchment areas and the educationally less disadvantaged areas, but who have chances of securing admission in other federal and state universities and push them there to write post-UTME tests.”
Okorie, who slammed universities that are using the post UTME to make money, reiterated JAMB’s commitment to helping candidates secure admission without stress.
According to her, what is the essence of post-UTME being conducted on English, Mathematics and general papers? They are fraudulent and that is what the stakeholders have stepped in to address.”
On UNILAG, she queried the rationale behind its decision to conduct test on Mathematics for students seeking admission in subjects not related to Mathematics such as Religious Studies, History, Dramatic Arts, among others.
Meanwhile, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN on Saturday has placed its cut-off mark above 230 as students who scored 230 were not short-listed for post-UTME.
Our source said: “The Post-UTME details which came out on Saturday at UNN affected many students who scored over 200 in their UTME, even those who scored 230 in UTME were not short-listed for post-UTME in UNN, suggesting that their cut-off Mark is above 230. ‘’However, no official cut-off has been announced.’’

The best u say? Why didn't they say it b4 those students filled their choice of skul?

Did it ever occur to u that most student made some universities their choice based on many things?

*proximity to school.( How could u redirect someone who is resident in onitsha and chose UNN to university of maidugari? A place were he knew nothing about?) This is very unfair because so many people will loose their admission because of this, despite the fact that they have read and studied so much to pass jamb and also reached their cut off. One will accept it n good fate when he/she writes d pume and fail than being disqualified out rightly. btw, writing of pume came in in the 1st place to check mate certain vices, why is jamb now poke nosing?

*availability of tuition fee. A candidate chose UNIZIK whose tuition fee is N20,100 because his parents could not afford to pay N140,000 @ ANSU, the candidate knowing this very fact, read so much to pass the cut off mark, only to be redirected to that same skul he/she was avoiding because of fees. Tell me how this is a great news.
Now, this is were the option of 2nd choice comes in handy, but, guess what? JAMB scraped that 2nd choice option, WHY?

*if jamb had wanted to do this. they should have started it next year. @least tell the students on time, I know there is a way jamb offers admission during pre pume era. Why not revert to the old style? Exploiting u say? JAMB made universities to start exploiting students, they lost credibility, JAMB started receiving bribes to offer olodo's admission into universities, they got wind of it and introduced pume to check mate that excesses from JAMB. If JAMB want their credibility back? They should earn it and not imposing it by force, that's not how an institutionalized body works.

but as they where not able to reach the speculated marks, should they turn them down? When the wanted is not available, the available becomes the...........

It has been happening like that in the past. We all accepted it that that's how it is.

Until dey scrapped 2nd choice.(When u didn't reach 1st choice, u will consider ur 2nd choice)

As for not being able to reach d speculated marks? Cut off by JAMB or various institutions? Jamb already cut 200, no one complained, but cutting 200 and will still come to determine how d institutions will do the weeding is a sheer incompetency by JAMB.

Since they knew about d number problem, they should ve given the general jamb cut off as 230 as against 200, with that they can still do d weeding without embarrassing anyone, candidates would have taken it in good fate that they didn't reach d cut off, rather than being redirected to the detriment of their wishes or choices. That's just unfair.
Allow the institutions to do the weeding as they have already been doing n the past through pume as JAMB has refused to do it when releasing the cut off mark.

As such, they would have just allowed it all to pass this year, then next year, they will now implement their new plans.

Thousands of intelligent and competent candidates will loose their supposed admission either by omission or by depression and frustration.
