You guys need to pressure him to tell the truth. This story does not conform to logic. If he truly needs help, he should sincerely open up to you guys.

After testing the software, why didn't he transfer the money back to where it came from? Why would he have access to ATM of a customer? Was the testing done by himself without others in the picture?

Many questions begging for answers. The truth is nobody will offer to help without the suspect coming out to say the truth. You don't transfer money during testing and leave it there. The intention to leave it there would be contested.

However, if he can proof beyond reasonable doubt that he didn't defraud the bank, he can't be sentenced to prison. He would only be told to enter an agreement of repayment pattern.
