It would take someone with a vacuum for a brain not to realize that technology is increasing at a non constant rate. For 6000 years people used live animals for transportation and communication required physical presence. Over the last 150, we've accounted for more advancements than the entire preceding period of recorded human history.

100 years after Voltaire died, humans still used the telegraph for communication. We have since made contact with the surface of the moon.
