Konami has revealed that bar Pro Evolution Soccer they will be ceasing all major console game development. In addition, the company’s technology director Julien Merceron will also be leaving.
We know that the recently released Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (shown above) cost a great deal to bring to market and it seems that this excessive budgetary spending was not a new thing either.

Over the years, Pro Evolution Soccer has clearly made Konami money but some of their other console games have fared less profitably. This is not down to poor sales as such, but more the budgetary expenditure to get to that point.
In that regard, Konami’s recent announcement to cease major console development is not overly surprising.

They are not alone either, as most major games publishers are struggling with their big budget games these days.
As a fan of the Metal Gear games, I am unhappy to see them go but it’s becoming increasingly clear that relative to their budgets the games didn’t have a sustainable market anymore.

That’s a sad thing to realise but it does happen in gaming and in any business for that matter.

Konami is a large business with various aspects to it, one of them being console games. It seems that this part of their history will now be ending. For those development staff still with Konami I hope they are able to move onto better pastures but this is definitely still a sad day for gaming.

Thats disappointing!.
So, we should be expecting their games on pc only except PES......

But on the brighter side, it should give them the time and resources to focus on making PES a better game for both console and PC.
