Thanks so much!

So what is the difference between an UberX and an UberBlack ride in terms of driver earnings? Say for example for a 20km ride within the town?

Is Uber Black operational in Nigeria?

And do customers really request for UberBlack here in Nigeria as opposed to UberX?

Any and all comments would be appreciated

Hello all, Uber launched in Abuja a few weeks ago. I was at one of the wonderfully organised series of presentations held at salamander cafe, wuse 2 by Ebi Atawodi, the GM west Africa for Uber. It was really an interesting prospect anyone would want to be a part of but i dont think they have got it quite right. I indicated interest on being a partner and ever since i have not being able to get in touch with any of their rep in abj to assist. I tweeted at their handle. sent mails without adequate response, no phone number to reach them om, I used an uber and the driver described an office on bobo street, maitama but hard to locate, i went to their service center at total area 11 and they had no info...i was bewildered. I hope to hear from anyone in Lag maybe i can start from there.

I have a few question on this Uber partnership.

I want to believe that Uber reviews it's policies and conditions for partnership periodically. And this includes the type and year of manufacture of preferred cars. Currently, they accept cars made in 2009 or newer models.

If I have a 2009 car in Uber service now, how long can I stay in the service with such car?

How will Uber policy review affect me as a 2009 car owner in the service?

TokyoBulls, raykas, any help, please?

Ur car review after being on Uber is based on riders rating and feedback... So regular maintenance does the trick grin

It's the reason we still have 2008 cars on Uber, The 2016 policy of 2009 cars and above doesn't disturb it.

It's also the reason after ur car clocks over the stipulated mileage still remains on the platform.

It's all about the car Maintenance and Riders Feedback.

I am a partner on Uber Lagos with 12 cars on the road. Uber Black is operational in Lagos but not yet in Abuja. The demand for Uber Black is low compared to Uber X. My advice is that you inform Uber that you will prefer the Merc on X rather than Black. I have cars on both X and Black and the numbers are miles apart when it comes to demand. Most of the people who use Uber Black are expats, celebs, musicians, etc and some regular drivers who (in error) do not know the difference and when they end up paying more, they get upset and rate your drivers low.

The demand for Uber drivers has gone up significantly. Please ensure you get a good driver. The success of the business is almost entirely linked to the quality of the driver. You can call any of the agents who recruit drivers to give you a driver for N15,000. There are partners who almost always have drivers on their team and will gladly take your car into their fleet for a fixed income every week.

You will be on the platform for as long as your car is in good working conditions. I still have a 2007 Toyota Camry in very good condtions on Uber Lagos. They do not delist older cars when they upgrade to newer models.

Thanks for your interest. From my perspective, there are four possible options:

1. The car owner is the same as the driver. In this case, the car owner is a partner-driver and the car must be 2009 or newer with less than 100,000 km mileage. The car must pass Uber car inspection (which takes place at Yaba or Lekki) and the partner-driver must possess Driver's License and Lagos State Drivers' Institute Card and go through Uber Drivers' Onboarding and pass the assessment.

2. The car owner hires a driver to use the car on Uber and earn an income. Same conditions for the car and driver. In this case, the partner (car owner) must have sufficient time, energy, skills, gut, etc to manage both the car and the driver to ensure optimal usage of the car and earnings.

3. The car owner appoints a registered Uber partner to manage the car and driver and get a fixed income for the car every week, usually on Saturdays. This is where my company plays. We have well-trained drivers and an operations team to ensure the cars are well used and only on Uber. We pay our clients a fixed amount for each car on Saturdays.

4. Hire-purchase or drive-to-own where the car owner gets a driver and the driver remits a fixed amount weekly to own the car at the end of a period.

You can buy very good pre-owned cars in great conditions. The cars do not have to be new. I am available to answer any further questions in order to guide you in this investment decision making.

Hello Tokyobull, I am really keen to start this in abj asap but part of the problem aside not having any corporate prescence (i think) in abuja is that the car vendors who came for the presentation made all sorts of glowing offers like 10% down payment and all that but when i went to their office, different story. Please do u know anyone who is willing to sell a good pre-owned car 2011 upwards or any car company with auto finance deal? Thank You

For example I have two vehicles Toyota Camry 2013 and Honda Accord 2011. These cars are underutilized, how will you out them to use if am to hand over to you?
