Hello Nairalanders of the literature section. i really need you folks' help if you can render it. There's this particular novel i read back in the university. I can't remember the exact title, but I know it has to do with "Comanche" in the title. I don't know if any of you have read it, but here's a brief summary of the book in mention -

There was a young boy (for the sake of this narration I'll call him Bo) who was captured by native indians(Comanches) at a very young age. I can't remember exactly, but I think his parents were massacred and he was taken as a slave. He grew up with these people as they moved around from place to place. I think he grew up being trained as a warrior or so but he was quite poor. Then the status of a man was measured by the number of horses he owned. Bo didn't own any horse.

As time went on, everyone began to accept him as one of them. He took part in many battles and gained the respect of many of his fellow young warriors, but they all knew he was a slave. Along the line when he "became of age", he was free to choose a wife. Unfortunately for him, the lovely girl he wanted was already being courted by others. Even though the girl liked him, her father could not accept his "bride price" (in form of a donkey) because other people were towing along well bred horses for the father. She was finally married off to a rich native who had so many horses and numerous wives.

Bo took it in faith and decided to live on his life. Sadly for him though, the girl was really being maltreated by her husband. Several times she pleaded with Bo to rescue her. Bo didn't know what to do and talked to his friend about it. There had been a rumor circulating around for years of a particular stable with so many majestic wild horses (the horses of Tafila or something, I can't really remember the name). Everyone had hoped to own such majestic creatures, but no one knew where the place was nor how to steal them. many of those who were rumored to have tried were either killed or not heard from again. Bo and his friend decided that if they could just find the place and probably steal the horses, maybe he had a chance to "buy" the girl from the man. They both set out in search of the fabled stable.

Luckily for them, they did find the rumored stable of wild horses. The myth was true. Bo and his friend were able to steal the horses (a large number of them) and they were able to lead them back to his clan. Everyone was impressed by their sizes and beauty. The girl's husband even inquired how he could buy the horses from him. Bo told him his demands. He was to free the girl. He also threatened to deal with him if he ever touched her again. The man agreed and the boy sold the horses to him, but only after keeping a number for himself, his friend, and a beautiful pony for his now new wife.

I don't remember what happened afterwards, but after a long day, he finally went back to his tepee where he lived and slept. Upon reaching there, he saw a column of smoke coming out of the top and upon entering, he found the girl of his dreams cooking. The girl stood up and began to shed tears of joy and relief. Bo just silently took her in his arms and the novel ended there.

I would be very grateful if any of you could tell me the name of this novel if you have read it. I'm seriously in need of this book again.

I've read the female version (where it was females captured).

There is also a movie whose title i dont remember, with a similar theme.
