Why Do Some Nigerians See The Call For Biafra As A Call For War? by MasterofNL: 9:25am On Jun 24, 2016
Why is it that some Nigerians see the call for Biafra as a call for war? I want to understand because I don't just get it.

When Igbos ask for Biafra they are not asking anyone to take up arms or calling Nigeria to war, it is just a call which is a fundamental human right and can not be taken away.

The U.K. just had a referendum and voted to pull out of the EU why did the other EU countries not see it as a call for war from the U.K?

Imagine Buhari saying that instead of allowing Biafra to exist, it is better for all of us to drown together. embarassed

I am Igbo and I am not IPOB and for now, I do not support any call for Igbos to pull out of Nigeria but the kind of statements coming from Buhari and some Nigerians even here on nairaland makes me wonder. Who is calling for war? Certainly not the Igbos.

My question is just this, why is a call for an intrinsic human right seen as a call for war?

@MODs, please I am not promoting sessecion, I just want to ask a question here.

Thank you all.

Peace!

It's just a matter of time before nigeria packs up, though not my wish but i'ts obvious. Anytime a car that has been working flawlessly develops an unusual noise in the engine, and the owner refuses to take it for repairs to be examined, well your guess is as good ss mine. The recent referendum on BREXIT, would have far reaching consequences all over the world; nigeria inclusive, it would spur the rise for self determination by many nations cobbled together by the UK.

You are not going about it in civilized manner and the people at forefront are acting more like thugs than cerebral agitators.
You don't go to look for separation by insulting people all over the social media.

Ok, so how should we go about it?

If a senator from the east should move for a referendum in the National Assembly will they allow it pass?

Let them move it first You don't assume that it will be thrown out. You have Ekweremadu there and other lawmakers.
Kanu should have been harping more and sensitizing your people on such, he never did, was busy insulting people and sowing hatred for yorubas and hausas.
Let all the members of the state of assembly in the East adopt resolution on referendum.

Exactly the point. Imagine citing succession of any part the country as a no go area during the last Confab. Why not allow such key critical issue to be discussed? At the floor of the NA, a serving Senator moved for the Islamic state as a way of stopping the insurgency in the North east but the word Biafra sparked a boxing match there.

In a civilized society, it will be treated just as it is; leave or stay.

The fear I am beginning to see is hinged on the slave-master mentality of... ..........plus the vast human and natural resource within the said region.

This is just it but greed will not allow them to which brings me to another question, where there is no way to push this true the National Assembly, what other options are available?

I'm yet to see any manner of sophisticated civility with which you carry about on this forum. Take away the thuggish tribal politics from you and you are exposed.

Every human being has a universal inalienable rights to chart their cause. You will have to start respecting that regardless of any preconceived notions you've formed about them.

Oh really? And how do you think Lugard brought us all together? By buying our fore-fathers playstation games? Those who see the call for Biafra as a call for war are usually those who don't have any sense of self determination. The very idea of freedom is something strange for them. Therefore, the idea that two people can shake hands and walk away doesn't come to their mind, only how to fight.

Of course not, the motion won't even reach second reading.

The answer is very simple. Biafra is the air they breath. If you take out the air then you are as good as dead body. Have you seen why Buhari said that instead of allowing Biafra to exist, it is better for them to drown together.

That statement from Buhari makes no sense at all.

Even if you want the country to remain one that is not the way to go about it.

Op, the problem is, This is Africa, where "gra gra" is seen as a means of settling dispute, where saying "I'm sorry" in the motor park arena earns you a bed at the clinic.

Calling for secession means calling for war, because leaders who steal your money in broad daylight and use escorts for personal protection at the expense of the masses will not invite you to a round table to discuss secession, it will be done in the battlefield

No one is resigning anything. Nigeria splitting up is just a matter of time. And it may surprise you that Nigeria splitting up will not be over Biafra. It will be over Buhari.

Biafra exit from Nigeria will pose a serious regional problem in Nigeria and will result to outright collapse of Nigeria, Igbos act as bridge that is stabilizing Nigeria both economically and religiously, if Igbos and Niger Deltans pull out of Nigeria the Western Nigeria have no other option than to pull out in other to secure their people from outright dominance from majority Northern muslims and middle belt minority group may start fighting against Fulani dominance and that will result into balkanization of Nigeria into more than 5 countries, that is why other Nigerians don't want Igbos exit, the consequences will be severe. I still believe in one restructured Nigeria, where Presidency will rotate among the six geopolitical zones and the North to drop their occupation of Nigeria and born to rule policy.

You are so on point.

Rotational presidency is also another good way of calming things dwon but will they agree? No!

You hear them boasting that the Igbo will never rule Nigeria again and I wonder what you expect me to feel or think as an Iggo man.

How does it feel to be part of a country where you or your children can not aspire to be president because these people have an unwritten law that they will never allow an Igbo man rule this country.

..@op that is the question i keep asking myself..mention Biafra and see folks having seizures left, right, centre. shocked

..Some people try to mask their fear by shreiking that 'we want Igbos out of our region' and all that blabbling, but its all LIES!!..

..Deep inside them is this morbid fear they harbour about Biafra. They come up with all sorts of lame excuses why Biafra should not be...from Nnamdi kanu abusing them to how Igbos will suffer and perish...but the truth is that one day, what will be will be.

...I am personally sick and tired of sharing the same country with muslims, especially the hausa-fulani ones by virtue of how this country is presently structured.Re-structure or outright secession is the only way forward now regardless of how long we bury our heads in the sand.

"CandyDiamond" just said it all, without the Igbos, Nigeria is as good as gone, not that other regions can't make it work, but there would be severe imbalance on all aspects, their would be dominance religiously, politically, spiritually, physically, emotionally (lol)

UK just pulled out of the EU, obviously no one expects the EU to stand beyond 2018. other countries would want to protect their territory since they are not as healthy as the UK to harbour immigrants or spearhead the EU.

Igbos, we need that balance, we only need to re-structure the political atmosphere, but truth be told, the president is not helping matters

They said that Igbos are thieves, drugs dealers, ritualists, fraudsters, non-contributors to national income while flooding the nigeria market with substandard goods.

Despite these, they are ready to go to war than to allow Igbos go. They say igbos constitute nuisance to the nigerian state and yet, they will rather die than let igbos go.
