I sincerely need your advice and expert opinion and "experience " if any on this. I have this very good friend of mine who has been in a serious relationship for over five years now. They however had plans of getting married by next year, but then early this year they decided to go for a blood test where it was revealed they are both of the AS genotype. This has affected her real hard as she's almost 36. she has rejected many suitors just to be with this guy. The guy his an orphan hustling and making it on his own. The issue on ground is the girls family, despite the willingness of the girl to stick with her Man, her mum insisted it's not gonna work for the risk of having an SS genotyped child. she's so worried and don't know what to do, she doesn't wish to start a new relationship over again as she felt she's not getting any younger(her junior ones are married with kids).
What are the chances of having a SS genotyped child if she defies all odds to marry him? I need your advice pls

For the sake of der unborn kids, they should let go asap..especially if they are not financially buoyant enough.

Help the world eliminate sickle cell...my advice to you(r) friend is for them to end the relationship. When/if they give birth and the child is SS, there will be days they will secretly regret having that child or even getting married at all.

Conversely, they could take the risk. I know of an AS couple who have 3 children and none is SS. Their chances are very slim though.

In this scenario, love doesn't cut it. It may look rosy today but when the suffering of an SS child starts, both will hate themselves and regret their decisions.

Let them both come to an agreement and end the relationship.

I feel for the woman though, cos of her age. I wish she had gotten this test done earlier.

sickle cell is not what person can toy with. Let them separate for their best interest to avoid future touching stories.

I doubt the veracity of your story... cos if they really went for the tests, the should've been counselled by an expert.
However, as a biologist I'll say all hope ain't lost.

They could decide to not have kids.
Also, there's an option o getting pregnant, and runnig tests on the foetus to know the blood group. If it's SS, they'd have to abort it and get pregnant again. They'll do this until the get an AS baby or an AA even.

Take an informed decision not a stupid risk.

Like I said to a similar topic and I repeat again... There's a new solution for AS genotype couple going into marriage for fear of having children with SS. A medical technique is in place where a donor AA transfer bone marrow to an SS children and the genotype changes...

Both of them are very careless, they should have knowntheir genogenotype before hand especially the lady....my candid advice is capital NO.

So if the girl gets pregnant 20 times with an SS, she will keep aborting the pregnancy and endangering her life and womb on each abortion. This one isn't an advice.

According to the law of genetics and natural selection, she can't get pregnant 20 times with AS baby. Her chances are 1 in 4 pregnancies.

They should take there time and study Mendelian Laws of segregation of genes... Let's help stop sickle cell anemia!

That's a solution most AS couples take before tyhey get married. It's a tough decision though
