Hey seun, obinnau,

Been looking for a way to contact you privately on this matter, but I believe inputs from all members will be beneficial.

Is there a way we can monitize the Literature section so that readers can pay a token to writers that wishes to monitize their work and Nairaland will get a percentage from sold books?
This will encourage more writers to put up their works here and put a price tag on it. It could be as little as N50 and as much as N1,000 depending on writers evaluation of their works.

If this can be achieved, trust me, no other section of Nairaland can generate more funds for you than the Lit section. A percentage of all sales will go to Nairaland and the rest to the author. Readers can have a Nairaland e-wallet which they fund and then subsequently, make purchase from.

This will encourage more writers to post their works on Nairaland and get rewards for effort put in. I don't see any other section making more money for Nairaland than Lit section if this is implemented.

I am not a programmer, but I am sure this is not rocket science and can be achieved with little effort and collaboration from we all.

What do you all think?

as for me I don't support, all writers will want to put price on their story.
this can even kill the literature section indefinitely

well....not all writers have to sell. Nairaland has the perfect platform for this to work because of the number of people who go through this site. There are so many readers here and many of them buy from the authors .

I have received many emails from people who want to purchase the stories I put up here, so if this can be done, why not?

It would be up to the author to put his work up for free or paid. I dont see an issue here anyway. If it can be done, I am in full support.

How? What are the challenges you think might frustrate it. Let's discuss and offer suggestions

the number one challenge that is likely to frustrate the project is reader cos readers may not be supportive
and the nairaland boss may not be interested in working on it

Mazi,
Most plans fall short between what to do and HOW to do them..
I don't know nothing about programming but if programmers say it is possible, why not?

Apart from it generating more viewership/money to nairaland, it would put some coins in the writer's pocket..

I think tis a nice idea

That's why I hold Tunery004, Purityval and Dioxidane to a high esteem...

Most of the writers are kinda selfish n wicked. Imagine Seun not billing anyone to post or share their stories on NL and after pulling lotta fans to read up their yeye stories, they halt the stories halfway n place price tag on it...

An example is a lovely story we all followed from seasons 1-6... The writer decided to monetize seasons 7-9... I bought 7 n 8 but decided not to buy season 9...

smiley **Clears Throat** Bros, no writer is selfish or wicked as you stated above. Sometimes, some persons just need something to kinda motivate them. For some persons it could be positive reviews, for some it could be followership while for others it could be monetary incentives. It doesn't mean they are selfish and wicked, everyone is just trying to hustle. cheesy

Like I've always said, the literature section is just like a testing ground to see how good or not one is, in attempting to write. I really don't see anything wrong if a writer decides that his or her work is good enough for sale. If we look at it critically, most times we just pay tokens for the pain and time taken write a book. If it were published on hard copy, it probably would have cost more. Please let's just try and appreciate these guys et. ladies. Na still part of the hustle... cheesy

And yeah, we love you too... #NOHOMO

All hail to Purityval, Tunery004, Dioxidane, Drnoel, Nitefury & Co. These guys u & I mentioned above write their stories just for fun & without it been monetized as we see here these days.

One writer once said that he has site/domain to maintain every month, yes we know but the owner of this site do not charge you for advertising your stories here or did you as a writer contribute a kobo for Seun 2 main his site? it's obvious that some writer's here are taking this issue of monetizing their stories to another dimension & it's really saddening. We all came here 2 have fun, but it seems some people are trying 2 use another man's sweat to make money. Lest I forget,

I can still read the stories here and buy, infact posting all or part of the stories here would be a wonderful platform for marketing.

IF MONEY .... MATTER ENTER INTO THIS WRITING STUFF ...

FOR THIS BUHARI ECONOMY..

EVERYBODY GO TURN WRITER BE THAT NA.

THERE WILL BE A LOT OF THREADS .... WITH SCRAB OR INCOMPLETE STORIES.

NO ONE WILL WRITE FOR THE PASSION OF IT.

MY ADVICE....

THE WRITER SHOULD PUBLISH HIS/WORKS ON AMAZON IF THEY FEEL IT WORTH SOME CENTS OR THE WRITER SHOULD CREATE HIS/HER OWN WEBSITE AND ASK HIS READERS TO PAY BEFORE TO GET ACCESS TO HIS/HER STORY.

JUST LIKE ONE MR ZUBBY77 OF GLOBAL RUNS.

Re: Monitizing The Literature Section by Nobody: 8:41am On Sep 05, 2019
I recall a time when Zubby monetized his work and y’all know what happened.
If there is going to be a monetization policy I guess it should come from the pulse of Nairaland! I mean it’s not like Nairaland is responsible for our data. Nairaland should study the youtube monetization policy, say an author with a stipulated amount of views gets compensated with a particular amount, this will go a long way in quality control as every writer will wants to put out genuine work that can garner views.
Say for example; 1k per thousand views subject to upward or downward review.
My opinion though.
