A pastor does that yearly in Florida and he is not arrested, learn to respect people fundamental human right, the police should rather advise him than arrest him quote author=Mynd44 post=48548329]
He can name his dog as he likes. When such action was purposely done to provoke his neighbors which will lead to an ethno-religious crises, he has crossed the line.

This is just like me making a video showing myself tearing up and burning a Quran and saying "Hey, I bought it with my money" and not expect the DSS to breaking my effing door in

Only the intelligent ones will understand that inscribing the name on the dog is in bad taste. Obviously done after mere naming the dog did not have the intended desired effect.
I can school you on logic! Good day.

With due respect u can't. U are wallowing in the river of assumption. Thats not logic!! !!

Actually the police have a case of breach of public peace if it is found that the suspect has done this to provoke his neighbors.

And yes the police can actuly hold him seeing as some criminals parading themselves as been offended have threatened to kill him if he is released on bail.He is being held for his protection.

Believe whatever you read on social media at your own risk.

You're aware he has a right to name his property whatever he likes?

I do not see how the consitution argues or enforces 'home training'.

Step away from your party & politics and look at it from the angle of a private citizen being hounded for his own preference. I hope this never happens to you & yours.
Nevertheless we all know the fragility of ethnic n religious relationship in the country now therefore everyone should desist from anything that can fuel any form of crisis

The igbos hatred for Buhari is second to none. How will a sane person give a dog a whole president and commander in chief's name? This is the after effect of the negative messages Nnamdi kanu preached on his useless radio. He taught most of them to disrespect the president all because of their useless biafra agitations. I suggest this man be locked up and the keys thrown into the Atlantic Ocean. This will serve as a lesson to other unpatriotic IPOB yoots who found mentorship in Nnamdi kanu. Am not against naming the dog buhari..... But inscribing it on the sides of the dog is totally a form of mockery. Nigerian police please try and focus on keeping the society safe and not all these bizibodiz matters. Even my dog's name is a girls name.

And no commentor above has said anything about the il/legality of the arrest.

Since when did it become a crime to tag a pet any name whatsoever?

Since when did it become a crime to wear the name tag or inscribe the name on the pet's skin?

This is 21st century; anyone can name their pet whatever they choose. And this is the Southwest for fnx sake not the North; I don't see how this is inciting.

Sometimes, I just wonder if Nigerian institutions are meant to serve the North -- see how the police were quick detained the man beyond 24 hours & stepped further by transferring him to a higher station.

How about you go name your dog Nnamdi or Ojukwu in Anambra? Tell me how it'll sound.
For Christ's sake, this is Nigeria; a multi-ethnic entity and diverse socio-cultural Nation. What is it with mutual respect that is hard to understand for a certain region?
Someone earlier said that things of this nature caused the Civil War of '60s. Why this stupidity of indirectly inviting the death of another millions all because of "AWA OYEL MONEY". The groundnuts pyramids, Cocoa reserves among others was never seen them as a certain peoples' instead, it was Nigeria's.
Enough of this Nnamdi Kanu's dosage of stupidity and hatred

You no get sense. How am I suppose to feel? Africans, you're a disappointment to ur Creator

Isn't ironical you claim to be the sensible one. A simple question I posed with out using any derogatory or foul language, and your reply?

If really you are enlightened, although your posts strongly suggests you aren't, you would have understood that we all have different perceptions, which are anchored largely on some variables, like culture, religion, environment, etc.

Now, you may give your pet any desired name in the US for instance, and no one would even blink. But you do same in an environment with some peculiarities, and you'd get your fingers burnt.

From the foregoing, it then means that the onus is on us to apply common sense when we find ourselves in some environment. Where I am from for instance, it is highly unlikely to hear pets with some names. So what happens if out of the blues, some one decides to give his pet my father's name? May be I won't react in the same way the complainant did, but I'd definitely be unhapy about it.

The afore example was given using the environmental factor as a yardstick. Still haven't gotten it? Lets look at another instance using the religious factor.

Lets assume you are a strong muslim resident in the north (though I am not one), then a neighbour for what ever reason, decides to name his pet "alah." Tell me, even though you may not bother taking the matter up, but some how, won't you be some what surprised, unhappy, uncomfortable, provoked, etc? Or at the very least, see that fellow as an unusual being?

Oh well, what do I even know? Needless dissipating further energy on this. I guess I have to concentrate more now on appeasing the creator you said I disappointed smiley

So what will be protection? A 5 star hotel in Abeokuta?

Actually, they can establish a case of it if they can prove there is malice behind it. If he has been appealed to in the interest of peace and he refused, if he has been parading such in the area even after knowing that it is offensive to his neighbors.

If there is no exhibit of the dog, there is no case, even a picture is not a case, cos pictures these days can be edited.

Mr, if I wear a shirt with 7 inscribed on it,and I get killed, would it be lawful?
I know you are a lover of buhari and all things apc,but its your choice. I want to believe you have the capacity of being logical; If tomorrow you find yourself in the east, say Enugu, and you go chanting Apc; Eventhough apc is hated there,do you think the igbo man will get you lynched? No, he won't attack you. why is that so? because the average igbo man understands the fundamental principle of rights.
Didn't northerners name their dogs after jonathan, didn't they call him a dog, did'nt buhari call we the citizens babbons? Did such an issue fly?
Anyways, the north is not backward without a reason, backwardness is a thing of the mind. With your support for the north,it won't be irrational for one to think you both are like-minded,your association with backwardness tells a lot about your potentials as a human being. Gracias!
Nb: I never insulted you, just the bitter truth.
Mynd44:

Do you call making a video of yourself burning a Quran and releasing it to the public an attempt to breach public peace? If you do, this case can actually stand in court. Did you buy the Quran with your money? Yes. Is it your property? Yes. Should you make a video of yourself burning it?

If he was not so into causing distress to his neighbors, why not just name the dog that and leave it, he inscribed it on both sides of the animal and paraded it.

If there is a crises in the area and there is considerable loss of lives and property (the attackers should be proscecuted) what happens then?

Breach of peace is not an open shut case, it also have to do with the little things we do.

The same way, I will definately not be allowed to wear a black T-shirt with a huge "7" written on it in an area where Eiye boys are known to hold sway by any sane officer of the law.

Do I have the right to wear the shirt. Yes. Does that mean I should?

grin Abeg, the police is right on this one. He can be charged with attempted breach of peace. The consequence of which no one, I mean, no one will be able to contemplate. I am an apostle of de-escalation and avoidance. If you wear short skirts around you can get raped, if you drive flashy cars around you can get jacked, if you wear expensive jewelry on the streets you can get mugged, simple. Oh, and if you walk about with a pet dog stenciled Buhari, you can start a genocide. It is as simple as that. He should be put away, not for exercising his fundamental rights of property ownership and expression, but for crass stupidity and insensitivity, the kind of way we lambasted whoever killed and ate that monkey which consequently started the ebola crises or the man that shot and assasinated the heir to the Austria-Hungarian empire that started the first world war, just stupid.

When we develop into tolerant, free society (after restructuring of course) we can do as we please, but we aren't there yet and we should not unnecessarily heat up the airspace to test the boundaries and grow the movement for a tolerant, free society. I know that to make an omelette you have to break some eggs but there is a time for eating. Good things don't come at anytime, everytime.

How will they arrest him in igbo land, even the police men over there would commend the guy, simply because the whole igbo people have an immeasurable hatred for Buhari. But try that in any other region and you'll know wassup. I just wonder why some ungodly set of people won't just allow sleeping dogs lie. We should always look forward to creating harmony and not disintegrate the country by tribalism.
