TWO YEARS TO THIRTY- EPISODE 1 by Rose Akpabio

She lay on the bed with her android tab going through pictures of her best friend’s wedding …how could she do this to her?

Others had abandoned or snubbed her rather immediately after they got married, but she didn’t expect this from her best friend Edna….

‘god help me…’ she whispered fearfully….

It wasn’t funny any longer….she was twenty eight years old and no man was yet to put a ring on her finger…

She’d lost most of her friends as a good number of them had gotten married before her…after attending each wedding, she would lock herself up in her room and cry…

‘don’t worry…your time would come’ that’s what they always said to comfort her…to make her feel better…

But it made her feel worse when she woke up to reality the next day….

Her name is Egodiamaka Anderson and she is twenty eight years old….she is like an average Nigerian spinster….

Who waits anxiously for her man to pop the question…and wipe away her ‘misfortune’ of being unmarried at such a late age…

Ego as she is fondly called graduated early from school at the age of twenty one…and was lucky to have a masters degree at the age of Twenty three…

She is an orphan as her parents both died when she was nineteen and she had to go live with her Uncle and his mean wife and cousins…

Thankfully, she’d gotten a job in a firm shortly after her National youth service corps and she’d become independent soon enough…

However, the problem was keeping a man or finding a good man…she always had badluck when It came to men…

She is a virgin and is ready to stay that way till she gets married, sadly not all the men that have come her way feel that way…

She logged out of facebook, tired of watching Edna’s wedding pictures…. Edna had stopped picking her calls…
She’d thought of it as a kind of network problem but it broke her heart that day….

Yes, the day she’d bumped into her friend in a shopping mall and Edna ignored her completely, though she’d tried starting a conversation, she cut her short and hurried out…

She pushed the troubling thoughts out of her mind and peered out of the window…she felt lonely on Sundays…

Her job kept her busy on weekdays…now she had nothing doing and she didn’t feel like watching any movies….
The weather had changed, the clouds had gathered yet again, it was going to rain, then she heard the loud bang!
‘Jesus take control’ she gasped…as it dawned on her that someone had just been shot.

Then she saw the middle aged woman….who lay on the dusty streets bleeding….

***
‘so my love….tell me about your trip to Seychelles…what’s it like over there? Never been there before…’ Ife wrapped her hands over her lover….

‘darling…’ Yinka groaned and rolled atop her….

‘stop that…you haven’t answered my question….don’t you wanna take me there’? she struggled as he tickled her….

‘it’s beautiful…I’ll take you there….whenever you’re ready…I love you so much Ife…my only wish is that…’

‘don’t say it…don’t let it spoil our moment together…I love you so much Yinka…promise never to let me go’ she placed her fore finger over his luscious lips….

Yinka was a man to die for…. He was extremely handsome…he was tall and well muscled and had a fine caramel complexion…

His eyes were hazel…neither blue nor brown but they were most beautiful…they bore through the soul and could calm a storm…

His nose was straight and attractive and his lips were not too full but very soft and slightly pink…Yinka Oluwatosin was every bit any woman’s Mr Right…

She sighed and fell back on him….if only she’d waited for him…she wouldn’t have been trapped in that hell of a marriage…

But she’d been too fast and now they had to show their love in secret…she was married to another man but her heart would forever belong to Yinka…

No woman would take her place…because no one could understand him the way she did….

‘hey babe….lemme take that’ he picked the phone up…he didn’t know the caller…but he picked anyway…

‘hello please who am I speaking with’? he was polite….

‘hi…sir…your mother had a little accident…please come over to ST.LUKE’S HOSPITAL OFF ORE ROAD’ the caller replied…

‘what is it?’ Ife saw trouble written all over his face…

‘I have to go baby….mum just had an accident…’ he kissed her and burrowed into his clothes….
