I haven't been much of a traveler in my day but looking at my fellow Nigerians I think I can easily say we are some of the most hypocritical set of human beings to walk planet earth.Why though do we practice so much hypocrisy in our day to day dealings and in different spheres of life is a question for the ages.We constantly tend to contradict ourselves in astonishing ways in matters of Religion,Government,Crime etc.Now looking at these aspects individually:
RELIGION:First and foremost I am not an atheist.My having to clarify that is due to the fact that when it comes to religion in Nigeria,people tend to get so judgemental and preachy that u start to think they were actually by God's or Allah's side while he was creating the world.Nigeria is a titan of a country with people from different tribes,disciplines and religious beliefs (or non-beliefs as the case may be) just like USA.The difference between us and them though is that we tend to get so judgemental about our beliefs especially when someone else even as much as whisper a word of doubt concerning religion.We tend to do things to the extreme which is why we have more churches than hospitals in some parts of the country.And brewing to the tip of those churches are religious fanatics who would stop at nothing but to make sure that everyone else sees things exactly the way they see it or not at all.Now the hypocritical part is where you realize that these people tend to only judge based on the fact that they sin differently than others.This is where you see a fornicator rushing to beat up a woman caught commiting adultery or a man who swears uncontrollably rushing to burn a man who stole some change.You see someone get angry when asked a simple question like to prove the existence of God.They call you blasphemous and unclean because you dared to be logical at all but at the same time they simply can't answer some of the questions thrown at them.If they are as driven in the spirit as they claim then why can't they just answer some simple logical questions without resorting to insults and judgement.
You see a "man of God" driving a lexus jeep yet his church attendees are living in squalor and he cajoles them with generic words like "God's time is the best" and "Prayer is the key".You see a typical Christian sowing seed of N500,000 yet on his way out from church he sees that beggar by the roadside and has to force himself to part with N20.Naija which way?Do you think that the same God who preached love and care for one another likes the fact that you see a picture of a dying child on Facebook who probably needs money for treatment and all you can do is "Like" the picture and type Amen then pass by.Amen to what exactly?Sometimes I actually wonder if these church goers actually worship God or their pastors.
A great man omce said "Religion is the opium of the masses" and yest I do believe that faith and belief in God can be a huge life saver but Nigerians can you just tone it down with the hypcrisy and fanaticism.You dont have to see a physical God before you can help that impoverished child begging for alms on the street.These are the people you can see and touch right now.Sometimes all it takes to open the gates of heaven is putting a smile on a face.

Giving doesn't make you a giver, neither does it mean you are not selfish, what makes a giver is the motive and passion for which he gives.
Many can sow seeds of millions and give religious leaders millions but cant part with a meager amount that will give a begger just a square meal.The reason is that they believe giving in church is an investment, God will bless them for it and they get attention and award for it(some churches give award to highest financial contributors).
On the other hand giving to the needy ,he'll never be able to pay them back and they will not get the recognition they desire.
Unknowingly for them, the bible says anyone who gives to the poor lends it to the lord,and he will repay it.
Also it said,curse be he that gives to the rich.

Giving of awards in churches?Wow...amazing.This is the hypocrisy I was talking about.People tend to act so righteous wen they sow a seed like its a competition but when you look beneath the surface u see that they simply have selfish interests.Now who are they deluding.God looks beneath the surface not at what they do physically.
