Earthquake Hits Kwoi, Kaduna: State Government Calls For Calm by gabinweb: 9:48pm On Sep 11, 2016
There were reports of earth tremors in Kwoi, Jaba LGA of Kaduna State yesterday, causing panic among residents.

The state government has however appealed for calm. The government in statement signed by Samuel Aruwan, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity, said it had made a formal report to the appropriate authorities to investigate the development, report precisely on the event and issue appropriate guidance.

Aruwan said Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai had confirmed the notification of geological and emergency agencies on the incident.

“The governor sympathises with the people in the Kwoi area over the reported earth tremors. He has directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to mobilise to the area andcomfort our citizens.

The national geological agency has also been notified, and has been invited to investigate the tremors in the Kwoi area and provide appropriate guidance,”

This is serious, KSG should waste no time in consulting the service of seismologist for professional advice and avert loss of live to this disaster.

This is indeed a natural disaster that cannot be averted by human techniques but swift action is needed to save lives of people living that area

NEMA too should be at alert!

And my friend is arguing with me that earthquake wouldn't happen in Nigeria?

Research has shown that by 2020-25, if adequate measures aren't taken, Nigeria would start experiencing earthquakes. Yeah, although we aren't on any fault line, but these days, anything can happen

This is not the first time the people of Kwoi are experiencing such tremor. I just hope something is done soon whether to cushion the situation or relocate the people from there.

I don't know what to comment but just do the needful grin

But seriously, I don't want to engage your last sentence, otherwise, you would be preoccupied with expatiating that point till day break.

True. But I don't think it would ever be very strong, judging by our own tectonic plates. but i feel the tremors would spread to the south also. its what will be on top that i fear for. a fresh survey must be carried out to determine areas that will be affected nex time. it is very likely it has been happening at undetectable levels before now. the challenge boils down to DATA. the earlier we set up equiped data centres across the country the better. we must be able to map tanzania's event with kaduna's.

As usual, everything na buhari. The man has his flaws, agreed but blaming him for every dick and harry is shameful. When some people have headache, can't poo in toilet, cough, sneeze, etc, they still blame Buhari.

Yesterday a lady blamed Buhari for snake killing her puppy. Na wao!
