If the present permanent job is a govt job, stick to it.
If it is private, you can consider switching for the sake of your family and more pay.

Meanwhile, connect me to any one that may not be useful to you any longer...because I need such breakthrough now.

I worked as a contract staff for 4 years, I was never converted, I never grew on the job. No incentives, no good allowances apart From the little we got as leave allowances. Infact no proper health insurance except for head ache or little malaria. No trainings except in-house trainings. I didn't gain any special thing apart from the monthly stipends....though,that was for the organisation I worked for, yours may be far different from it.
You can give it a trial sha with prayers.
Good luck.

Hello All,
I have to create this account for anonymous purpose because some of my colleagues are on NL. Here is my situation:

I just got a permanent job in Lagos with N4.8m/annum ( i had to relocate from where i was working before i resigned), i have been working in this environment for a little more than a month, i enjoy the environment, the people are friendly and willing to share knowledge and information, my 2 major issue with this office is their exit policy which got me scared and thinking of leaving before long.

I got another offer in another location where my family is based (iam married) for N6m/ per annum (net) through one of my former boss, he is putting pressure on me to accept the offer (he likes me alot while i was working with him), my issue with this job it, its a CONTRACT job (2 years and renewable) with a government parastatal, though he said they are most likely going to convert to permanent before the end of the 2 years.

Though i have not done contract job before, im kind of confused about it, and then the security of the job, etc. But the money/offer is tempting.
I just want your advise based on people with experience with contract jobs.

NOTE:
please dont mind my grammar
Thanks

my opinion is that you assess your personal inclinations as per family, money and skills and where you do want your career future to settle.
If you are family inclined then move back closer to your family and this will reduce your expenditures and increase savings.
If its money then you know better where to go based on your cost benefit analysis
And finally if you have an idea of where your career should be in the future and one of these two options is in the right direction, then you can choose better. just do the needful. As someone have said earlier there is no job that is permanent.

This right here is the mother of all responses on this thread. helovesme, you are a very smart woman. They guy who loves you tongue is a lucky guy. babacares, this post -particularly the bolded parts- has addressed all the objections and misgivings you had. Go do all she's stated. 6m a year courtesy of a boss who really likes you, reduced expenses, plus the opportunity to spend more time with your family? I'd say it's a fantastic deal.
thanks, noted

Hmn, great thing to have options but the buck stops @ your door on this. Though, I have not worked formally, I believe you should make your decision yourself as the technical nature of your job is not stated (this is a major influence). However, you might consider the arguments:
FOR YOUR PRESENT JOB
I 'm more tilted towards this decision because the contract job is linked to a government agency with a 2 year duration. The question then is what next given the fact that at its expiration, there might be a new government in power which would result in cancellation of your contract.

FOR YOUR CONTRACT EMPLOYMENT OFFER
However, you might also want to consider the implications on your career as the contract employment could offer challenging opportunities that could make you more relevant after two years to probably take up an expanded role @ a private firm because distinguished work and contacts in government is highly rewarding aswell.

Summarily, just ask yourself, given my all in two years across both organisations, what would I achieve and is there a potential opportunity to move higher.

thanks well noted

This advice above is what you need.

I have been there. I graduated 2001. I have worked both contract and permanent and as noted above, no job is permanent.

Don't fool yourself. Go for the contract job and believe God that everything will be fine.

I wish you well.

Amen, thanks bro

Go with the contract one since the exit policy of your present one is not good. You will be making more money, you must also put pressure on your contact after your 1 year anniversary and start looking for more opportunities. The only reason I will advise you stay at the current job is if you are one of their best employees. You must be the best or do things (beyond what you are paid for) to make you indispensable.

the exit policy is scaring me more like enslaving and want to force u to work for a number of years and i dont really want to stay long here before leaving

First you need to be prayerful. Pray for God guidance. In my opinion I will advise you to take up and hold on to the job that will bring you closer to your family. It's important. Either contract or permanent, the 2 jobs are ok. I wish best of luck as you chose one.

My brother since you are hopeful that the contract job may turn permanent b4 the end of 2yrs,and your former boss who likes you so much is pressuring you to take the contract job which by my jugdement means well for you because of the love he has for you and for the overall reason that the contract job offers you the opportunity to be close to your family,i will humbly advise you to take up the contract job not because the money is bigger but because of the reasons explained above.

For me, permanent job all the way. You can't be too sure bout the contract stuff, yea with promises of renewal and conversion to permanent staff, who says? Such promises might not be fulfilled considering the current state of our economy.
The permanent job will enable you negotiate for another permanent slot else where..... My 2cent bro.
Re: Confused About Contract Job And A Permanent Job by ttime(m): 9:35pm On Sep 16, 2016
with a great investment plan on the bonus, u shouldnt be worried about loosing your employment after 2 years. you shld start saving for your own start-up. after all, some day, you will still have to be ''let-go'', as u cant work with them forever. earning N500,000 monthly net income for 2 yrs = 12,000,000... abegi.... even if they dont let u go, after 2 years, you should let yourself go as no job is really ''PERMANENT''. even permanent secretaries get retired eventually.
