THE Presidency has opened up on the raid, by operatives of the Department of State Services,DSS, on some judges, just as it gave  assurances that President Muhammadu Buhari “reserves his highest respect for the institution of the judiciary as the third arm of government. ”

The assurances came in a statement by Presidential Spokesman, Garba Shehu on Sunday.

He insisted  that “To this end, the President will not do anything to undermine its independence.”

According to the statement made available to Social Times, Shehu said “President Buhari remains a committed democrat, in words and in his actions, and will not take any action in violation of the constitution.

Shehu said “The recent surgical operation against some judicial officers is specifically targeted at corruption and not at the judiciary as an institution.

The statement said further that “In a robust democracy such as ours, there is bound to be a plurality of opinions on any given issue, but there is a convergence of views that the country has a corruption problem that needs to be corrected.

“But reports by a section of the media are giving us cause for concern.

The presidency cautioned that “In undertaking the task of reporting, the media should be careful about the fault lines they open. It is wrong to present this incident as a confrontation between the executive and judicial arms of government.

Shehu asserted that “The Presidency has received assurances from the DSS that all due processes of the law, including the possession of search and arrest warrants were obtained before the searches.

“To suggest that the government is acting outside the law in a dictatorial manner is to breach the interest of the state” Shehu said.

The bolded text is very instructive.

The problem with Nigeria is that, for too long, there has been a Conspiracy of Silence among the political class & public officers, where they collude to fleece the nation while everyone looks the other way and pretend that nothing is happening. The younger generation, sadly, have grown to accept this as the norm. These days, we even pray for 'our time' to come.
---
Every institution meant to defend this country and its citizens are the very institutions that collude to undermine it. From the FG, SGs, MDAs, NASS, Judiciary, CSOs, Youth groups, etc. There is no respite anywhere.
---
Only for a second time in this country, someone is trying to reset and reformat our national consciousness from this malady. Our psychic needs to be reverse engineered to the right path, even if it means using unconventional means.
---
Those who question the President’s tactics and are often quick to spew "Rule of Law" should ask those looters if they had any regards for the law when they were bleeding the nation. Or is it their constitutional right to "corner" public funds for their personal use?
---
For those who say the fight is one-sided, I say - I would rather take a one-sided fight than accept no fight at all. It is the No Fight posture adopted by previous leaders that has made us to progressively degenerate to this corruption abyss. The fear of being hunted by your enemy is going to start scaring corrupt politicians and public officers.

“A corrupt judge is more harmful to the society than a man who runs amok with a dagger in a crowded street. The latter can be restrained physically. But a corrupt judge deliberately destroys the moral foundation of society and causes incalculable distress to individuals through abusing his office while still being referred to as honourable.”

----Justice Muhammadu Uwais

The president should get ready to order more arrests soon, customs officials, police, army, EFCC, even the DSS and SSS, immigration, CBN and all other occupants of public office deserve more invasion.

The question is does the fight against corruption make it right to invade/swoop on persons and make arrests based on suspicions and allegation without due process.

Mr president must be advised not to test the resolve of the masses

These illiterates and idiotic people in the Presidency know nothing about our laws including the lawless SSS. Were those Justices terrorists that stupid SSS would go pulled down their doors and residences in the night to arrest them? Were they National Security Threat? Is it the job of SSS to handle corruption cases?

The presidency game plan is to frame up Justice Walter Onnoghen so that he won't be made Chief Justice of Nigeria since he has already been recommended by NJC. They want their lackey to be there as CJN. Very divisive, tribalistic and stupid people

Was the ACN Judge, Justice Salami arrested over allegations - No

Is DSS constitutionally empowered to arrest the Judges in the midnight - No.

In fact, the DSS acted unconstitutionally against its statutory and constitutional responsibilities hence the presidency should stop talking rubbish.

It doesn't matter who does what or how what was achieved, just so long as they get things done.

All the years we have been applying due process, how has it helped Nigerians? Rather, it allowed corruption to fester. If anything, the Nigerian due process has aided and abetted corruption for far too long.

You want a better country, yet resist every attempt at salvaging it. Nobody gets anything done by doing the exact same thing that has failed to work.

I find it funny that you of all people, refer to others as illiterates. Your post gives you up each attempt you make at sounding clever. You never reach!

Democracy features the seperation of power & it involves checks & balances. That's brings to question: who checks the judiciary? The judiciary should be the last hope the common man. Ironically, it is where injustice is meted out. Where bribery is the order of the day.
What the eff is due process? you say no one is above the law & everyone is equal yet we need to follow due process. I advise every Nigerian to demand for due process if he/she is accused of any corruption charge. If they arrive at your doorstep, (for instance you are a journalist) tell them to obtain a search warrant from the NUJ, fill all the forms before you grant them permission to search.

I think the problem lie with us.

We are separated along tribal, religious or political lines and so, whenever something is done for the benefit of the masses, some set of people are always ready to shout blue murder.

So far, the so called law has only been applicable to the poor in the society.

Do we know how many innocent civilians are been harassed daily in such manner yet they cannot get justice. Now, a few corrupt judges are being questioned and some people are shouting rule of law and it is those same set of people who will say Buhari did not get a single conviction for a corrupt case where as, the problem lies with these corrupt judges who are hell bent on frustrating the efforts of the executives for their own person monetary gain

The security agencies have the power of law with a court warrant to pull down any door where the occupant refused to grant access.

The question is did the judges grant access? Why did the judge in Rivers call the governor to rescue him and obstruct the execution of the warrant on his premises?

The reason why Nigeria's corruption is unprecedented and unrivaled anywhere else in the world is the sheer amount of people involved in it, and how many citizens are ready to go out to defend corruption.

For those who defend corruption, I'll ask you a few questions:
(1) Can you estimate the number of deaths caused by accident due to poor roads - simply because government officials looted funds meant to construct and repair roads?
(2) Can you estimate the number of people who die yearly from health-related issues - simply because government officials looted funds meant to build health-care centers and provide drugs there?
(3) Can you estimate the number of people who die yearly from water-borne diseases - simply because government officials looted funds meant to provide portable water to citizens?
(4) Can you estimate the number of people who die yearly from malnutrition - simply because government officials looted funds meant to provide good jobs for citizens?

I can go on and on, but I'm sure you get the point. Corruption is a million times worse that BH, Fulani Herdsmen, ND Militants, ISIS, etc. Deaths caused by corruption is not as brazen and cannot be pinned down to any one person. But it slowly and progressively takes away lives in their thousands every single day.

Call it Gestapo-tactics or not, I stand with Buhari on this one. These primitively corrupt criminals subject our national treasury and common wealth to even worse Gestapo-looting.

Now that the executive is "sanitising" the other arms of the government (Senate, House and now Judiciary), who will now help us to clean the headquarters of corruption, the executive itself. Because every Kobo stolen by the other arms are released by the executive.

For those supporting the recklessness of this government, remember your last support during the general election, how have they put you right. Just be patient, it will soon get to your turn. Whatever you permit increases.
