Royal Navy races to intercept heavily-armed Russian aircraft carrier heading for English Channel as it practises bombing raids near Scotland ahead of Syrian mission

The Royal Navy is on red alert after it was revealed that Russia plans to sail a fleet of warships along the British coast as it makes it way to Syria.

Russia's flagship Admiral Kuznetsov and seven additional vessels will pass the UK on their voyage to the war-torn country as it prepares to bomb rebel forces in Aleppo.

The fleet is expected to carry out practice bombing north of Scotland before potentially sailing down the English Channel - a mile off the coast of Britain.

It comes amid rapidly escalating tensions between the west and Russia, as the Kremlin looks to give a show of strength right on the doorstep of the UK Two British warships, possibly HMS Duncan and HMS Richmond, will be deployed by the Royal Navy to escort the vessels past Britain,The Times reported.

The Russian ships could arrive in Britain as soon as early next week, with their departure from the naval port of Severomorsk expected any moment.

Fellow Nato countries are expected to track the fleet's progress along Scandinavia, past the UK and into the Mediterranean, while British fighter jets will be on standby After arriving off the coast of Syria, the Kuznetsov is expected to take up position there for almost half a year.

The deployment comes amid tense relations between the UK and Russia, exasperated by comments made by Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson.

Mr Johnson was roundly criticised for his ‘shameful’ callcall for anti-war protests over the bombing of Sryia outside the Russian embassy in London.

Both the UK and France have a deeper technological base with a more robust economy that can support a long term war compared to Russia.
Russia has a bigger landmass than both . So that is a huge advantage against some countries, but still not as relevant when dealing with a tech power like the UK or france with more nuclear ICBMs than they will ever need, Top-line access to American best weapons and missile defence systems, and brilliant indigenous minds to design military wonders.
The Euro typhoon and the French Rafale are probably the best fighter jets in Europe. And the French are the best when it comes to world class ship-building, aircraft carriers and the production of anti-ship missiles in Europe.
Infact, virtually most if not all of Russian warships were bought from France.

japan was strong but was very far from germany for proper coordination between the two. Stalin's Russia made the difference before the introduction of fat man as the red army were the first to match on berlin.

The rubbish you opined above is just utter rubbish! If you call for a war between the french and Russian army, i can assure 2 weeks max is what it will take for France to be at the beck and call of Russia. Among the top 5 world powers, france is the weakest of them all because history has shown that they can't endure a prolong assauy against them as was with the case with Germany during world war I and II.
Every technological bragadozo they had proved uterly useless as the Germans trampled on the so called inpregnable defense lines as if they were walking on top of water like Jesus.
At times i ask myself why countries like Germany and japan are not on the list of 5 military powers? Whether good or bad these two countries have shown that they can be able to project their powers far beyond their borders when faced against foreign adversaries (defence or offence) which can't be said of france. They only know how to surrender without putting up much of a fight.
