Good day people,

I have followed this thread for quite a while now, gained a lot from it and owe a lot to everyone who has contributed here. I recently sat for the GRE and my scores were quite good. It wouldn't have been possible if I didn't get guidance and directions from y'all. I got Q166 V166, analytical scores not out yet, praying for something good (I'm not much of a writer).
I would like to give a brief summary of my studying pattern or experience, I feel I owe it to those yet to take their exams; some may find it useful. I studied for roughly 2.5 months with intensive studying in the last two weeks to the exam. I started with Kaplan, then Manhattan books and finished with the ETS official guides. Each week, I took full-length tests to gauge my level of preparedness (If you have good internet connection, this would be really helpful to develop your own pacing methods). I used the Magoosh vocabulary app and their e-book to learn new words, they were really helpful over a month or so. That's just about all I did.

Thanks once again for all the help guys.

I used just the manhattan books and magoosh videos for my prep, I also did the powerprep and some online practice tests and that was more than sufficient for me. The manhattan series helps you to get the basic foundation of all the concepts being tested, then you can just work on the practice questions from other books like princeton and gruber, also a few days to your exam you can watch the magoosh videos to refresh your memory, and please start practising the essays now from the topic pool on ets website because the issue and argument you get will be chosen from there. Wish you the best.
Thanks,am realy grateful

On your ETS page, there would be a Reschedule Appointment button after you register. You can reschedule, but it would cost you an additional $50. In Naira, B.Y Mafit charges 20k for a reschedule. But in my case, since it was their error, they bore the additional cost.

Thanks. They've helped me with it too with no additional cost. Your post was helpful.

Its their fault in my case too. I booked for 20th of November, they booked 3rd of November for me. Although, they've booked 7th of December for me now.

Well in my case manhattan was enough, I read each chapter and solved the easy and medium practice questions at the end of each chapter, but GRE questions can appear in different forms that's why its advisable to practise questions from other books. For your second question, most part of the manhattan series were easy to read and understand but I occasionally encountered some topics where the methods used were too cumbersome to learn so I just checked them up on the magoosh videos or online.

yes I read each chapter and solved the easy(not essay) and medium problem set, I wont advise skipping the problem sets till you finish the whole series because solving them will help u retain what u read in each chapter. if you skip till the end you might forget some of the things you learnt. Here is a liink to the magoosh videos its about 900mb

Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by drhopeful: 6:45pm On Oct 20, 2016
So I rewrote the GRE today and I believe I was in the same centre as @seeker88. Long story short, I found it as tough as my first experience - especially those God-forsaken Verbal sections. This time I made sure to read my issue essay prompt over and over again so I don't make the same mistake twice. At least now, if I don't score at least 4, it will be confirmed that I am a confirmed mumu writer grin.

Anyway, I found the test so tough and confusing that I developed a bad headache after my first verbal section - so much so that I felt like getting up and just walking away. But when I remembered how I have been sleeping at 2am everyday for the last few months just to study after getting back from work and sorting out family needs, and the state of Nigeria's (or rather Buhari's) economy plus my precious $410 in registering for the exam twice, I picked myself up and forged on.

This time I got QVQVQ. When I got my second verbal and saw shorter (but still incomprehensible) passages, I said to myself ... 'It's over. DrHopeful you are a confirmed GRE mumu. You just wasted all your time, effort and money for nothing.' From that point, I just got on with it and the remaining Q. What finally killed me was when I noticed this final Q section was way easier than the first 2.

Anyway, I casually reported my scores and I was utterly stunned at what I saw. For like 3 mins I was just staring at the frigging screen.... 157V, 164Q. I just could not believe it. Apparently the final Q section was the experimental section cos it was too easy to earn me my score. For the benefit of newcomers, I scored 150V, 162Q in my first test 2 months ago.

I shall report on the outcome of AW when it's out. For now, I am UTTERLY RELIEVED!!!!!! I will sleep at 9pm today for the first time in months! Good luck to those yet to write. Time for me to start prep for TOEFL.

@seeker88, come and share your good news jare!
