Over the years I've heard a lot of people speak ill about mbaise, now this is my fatherland, my grassroots and I have never observed anything thing out of the ordinary from our behaviors and relations with people. I feel very saddened when people ask me, "hey, beautiful girl where are you from" and immediately I say Mbaise they act all surprised and unimpressed...there was even this guy that told me that "you're a very nice girl, but the only problem I have with you is your village, why are you even from Mbaise" huh!! undecided undecided now this is quite immature if you ask me.. the trend is that Mbaise people are Overly wise, hates to be cheated but likes to cheat..this myth I have only heard but not seen nor experienced...I mean why would anyone be judged by where they hail from??
N/b: Mbaise is a part of Imo state that makes up 3 of the 27 local government areas in the state..the 3 l.g.a s of mbaise includes Aboh Mbaise, Ahaizu mbaise and Ezinihitte mbaise
Most times I even hear people say that "if you ever come across a snake and an Mbaise man, endeavour to kill the mbaise man first" like seriously?? Oh puhleeeeaaaaaase
This thought is very sickening as well as it is myopic....
Please I'd like to know why people have these beliefs, does anyone know anything?

They are like an hausa man. If you are honest and open to an hausa man,he will be open and honest to you but if you want to play smart,he will show you he's smarter.
You get a double dose of what you bring to the table when relating with them. My experience over the years though.

Many Nigerians have bad notion about other tribes, not just Mbaise.

Whenever I tell people I'm Esan, they ask where, the moment I mention uromi, ghen ghen! The bad notion start coming...

Funny those who usually make this generalisation are the ones who don't know squat!.

Many are just local champions who haven't even travelled out of their comfort zone since the time they were born there.

It's just so annoying and unbelievable that people will have such mindset in this age and time.

I have this friend also from Mbaise and just last week, the guy she 'thought' she was going out with (thought because, the guy had it all planned) suddenly told her that they can't go on any further and when she insisted on knowing why, the guy (from Anambra) who is a graduate with a master's and good exposure from his sojourn abroad told her that it's because she is from Mbaise!

That he loves her, but his family will never allow him marry an mbaise lady.

When I heard it, I was shocked, in this age and time?

Look, character has nothing to do with it. It's all about the wallet.
Getting married to an Mbaise girl, will bankrupt any young man (especially if he is considered an outsider).
Ain't nobody got time for that in this day and age, but traditionalists will never learn.

Your village people no dey carry last when it comes to CHOPPING pesin and using his money to open several shops all because he wants to marry a young woman from their area.

The sad thing also is that, there is very little the girl's immediate family can do....no matter how 'toosh' they are.
SOMEBODY must sort your greedy village people, and they don't care who.

If you haven't seen greed before, wait until you see your uncles and aunties dragging about how much they want to sell you for when that time comes.

It is EXACTLY because he is well-traveled that he quit it too.
After experiencing worthwhile alternatives (where archaic bride price/list tinz are no longer practiced or at least not as abused), why will he come and bankrupt himself on top wedding to one girl? Especially now when money dey hard people.

I personally don't see why these things are hard for women to understand.
Why should he marry you when there are several equivalents of you from other tribes and cultures that don't require an arm and a leg to marry?

And more importantly, Why should he marry you if you don't get this?

I have a sexy female friend from Imo who I respect finish because she GETS this simple fact about her people and it's culture. She says when she wants to marry, she will be the first to let the guy know that "Babe, my culture is rather excessive when it comes to marital things. I want you to know that a court wedding is also an option". Because she too no like wahala!

I mean, it's pure deductive reasoning. Or is it only color of dress and flower most women look at when it comes to wedding matter?
Apply some logic too. I swiar it's not hard.

I do not think you got what I said or maybe you did but decided to shove it aside and push down ur absurd opinion on others. No one talked about bride price here, and bride price was never the issue. shebi you go ask for girl hand in marriage before them provide u with bride price list.

Just so you know, the bride price of Mbaise is overly flogged due to fake lists that are circulating. Just so you know, there are people who get married to Mbaise Ladies without even spending out of the ordinary, it all depends on family of the girl and the clan you getting your wife from.

So next time, do not generalize the Mbaise people due to what Mr A got from the family of the bride he intends to marry and exaggerates it, ans am very sure you have never been to Mbaise or opportune to witness any of the marriage rites, you are just speaking on hearsay, which is pathetic.

Believe me, the reason the guy left . Because of the cost of bride price of that girl, my uncle saw his ears when he married from there, my friend too, all advice to not marry from there fell on deaf ears until h saw it wit his own eyes.
If mbaise people can stop looting (sorry if I am harsh) their potential in laws, den all this will stop

Bride price is has to do with family and individual.

My cousin married from mbaise last year NGURU side or somwthin and what he spent on bride price was less than 50k
And i dnt think that is too much to marry a girl
Besides d gal is a well behaved gal and she was married a virgin.

Its only backward people dat will generalize based on experience.
Character is and individual thing not cox of tribe or region

Fake lists...LOL.
So before I answer you: Have you yourself gone to marry a woman from Mbaise before?
Have you yourself seen a list from that area? Or are you just responding emotionally like most women do?

To be honest when It comes to serious marriage matters, it is your type of female I avoid.
I respect IMO babes who KNOW that their traditions are excessive (like my friend I talked about in my last post) and who don't bother denying it.
It shows that she's a woman who can see reason (This is rarer than pearls) because she ADMITS what is in front of everyone's face. Not one who is constantly on that emotional-response tip trying to convince someone that 1+1 = 3 regardless of copious logical facts.

The pure facts is that no matter how many "cool" families they are, the MAJORITY (read: ~70%) of Mbaise families will loot their in-laws. And at the end of the day, these are the metrics that matter. It then becomes a bad gamble with unnecessarily terrible odds for the guy (given his other options) to start something with an Mbaise girl...unless she is not the dull type and is ready to cooperate with whatever needs to be done to move forward with life...but most girls aren't that bold/independent I find.

Every tribe in Naija has some backward tradition they are known for. There is no smoke without fire.
E.g. I'm Edo, and My people are known for excessive witchcraft. And you know what? Given the things I have seen, I agree!!!!
That is why I don't go to my village for anything!

I don't go around trying to deny what I obviously know is true about the majority of Edo village people.
I don't go about trying to be an unpaid Public Relations Manager for what I know makes no sense to defend.
I call bullshit (i.e. bad tradition) for what it is and disassociate myself from it.
And in so doing, I set myself apart! I see this no other way because to cover them, is to accept the traditions I hate. And I ain't doing that.

Until y'all own the issues of your people and admit to them instead of blindly denying them, only then can solutions begin and only then will people change their opinions. No be by constant denial.

So much garbage been poured out is all what I read, now to answer your question I am a proud Mbaise girl, and I have seen that list several times. I have aunties, that are married and the list that was always given to the grooms is not anything close to the overly exaggerated list that circulate online. That you and your so called Mbaise friend come from a family that believes in robbing people in the name of bride price does not mean any other Mbaise family is like that.

And dnt tell me the family members can not do anything. The bride's family members are the influences of the list that always goes out.

Let me teach you something.
The issue with Mbaise (And likely Igbo culture as a whole) is that the list does not simply depend on the girl's immediate family....but her "village" i.e. her extended family. So it is not simply about finding an Mbaise girl from a good immediate family, it is about finding one from a good EXTENDED family as well, because if the majority of the Extendeds are Looters....the whole soup is spoilt for the in-laws.

Like I said, all that matters is that the majority (~70+%) of families in that area are in-law looters. These looters are some ladies' extended families...even if these ladies come from good immediate families.

As long as that is the case, and as long as Igbo culture continues to give extended family members too much say on what should change hands when a daughter (Who they probably haven't seen since she was a baby) gets married.... Then no matter how the few good 25% act, and no matter how much it makes you emotional/cry/etc....It will always be a BAD GAMBLE for a guy to engage an Mbaise girl (Double the odds of a bad experience if dude is from another tribe and then now based abroad on top).

Very few people like to waste their time with "Let me try and see how her family is". They simply go off the metrics, because time is valuable.
If there are better metrics elsewhere, then that is where they will go.

Whether the girl is a good girl or not has nothing to do with anything. "Good girl" is everywhere.

Yes I know these reports ensure bad market for Mbaise babes, but Your emotions on the subject are irrelevant and only matter to you.... not the cold hard realities of dudes' wallets based on THE METRICS.

If you want to change the metrics, y'all sort out your people and banish hungry-minded by-force traditions from your land and THEN we can talk.
But no, Igbo folks will always say "It is tradition It must be followed". But never will y'all ask "Made by who? And in what time period?"
All these things are man-made traditions that are no longer relevant and serve no purpose other than to frustrate the current generation....at least those who are weak enough to let it.

I personally know abt 3pple dat married from mbaise my cousin being one of them
And none of those wedding did they pay more than 5ok 0n bride price
I have also mingled with a lot of them for some private reasons.
If u kno anybody that collected huge amount on bride price added dat himself for his own selfishness and greed

The bride price is almost the same everywhere in igboland with maybe a little difference in that will not be over 10k.
Only say what u are sure of bcoz whatever u say here might destroy many future wedding and cause heartbreaks.

Most of those things u hear abt them are fallacies expecially d price aspect...
yea im a prove and i hav actually one.

PLS MIND WHAT U SAY BCOZ THINGS U ARE SAYING HERE ARE FALSEHOOD AND CAN CAUSE A VERY SERIOUS HAVOC AMONG LOVERS.

You are trying so hard to make your opinion count. It's laughable that someone wants to teach me something I already witnessed and experienced based on hearsay cheesy, my dear save your breathe I am an Mbaise Lady, so am in that system.

Like I said, what ever is in the list the goes out is influenced by the girls family. If her immediate family allows her extended family to use their daughters marriage as a looting format, if she remains at home, whose home will she stay? Lol.

I remember sometimes back, when very busy working class aunt was about to get married, and she complained to my grandma that even her husband to be was always so busy as regards to buying things listed on thee list. My grandma told her they can go with the option of paying money for everything, and the amount she called was not even upto 60k!

That is the same Mbaise bridal list that I hear people say, they spent millions on, lol. Like I said before, the list depends on the girls family, they are the ones who decides what goes in it...

...And please stop quoting me because you are neither from Mbaise or have married a girl from there, all what you are spewing out are based on hearsay and what you read online. Whenever you or your son decided to marry from Mbaise, and you receive the list, then you are qualified to quote me.

Thanks

Why don't you leave Igbo Matter and focus on Edo state. How would you feel if I say that all Edo women are prostitutes and that all Edo men are armed robbers( judging from all the robberies that happens at Benin bye pass along Benin -- Lagos road)

Useless Mugu feeding on sterotypes and generalization.

FYI: Mbaise people are very educated and get mouth in all spheres of life. So, I don't think they need you.
