U-20 Women’s W/Cup: Dedevbo Tips Falconets To Bounce Back

Falconets Coach, Peter Dedevbo, is confident that his girls will bounce back from their shambolic 6-0 defeat to Japan, to pick maximum points from the remaining two matches in the ongoing FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Papua New Guinea, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

The Delta Queens gaffer charges the players to put behind them the horrific display in their first game and focus on the challenge Canada and Spain will offer.

"We are down but not out, and this is the time for us to fight till the end of the competition. It would be fool–hardy for us to start feeling sorry for ourselves because it will affect our focus for the remaining games in the tournament," Dedevbo states.

"I must acknowledge the fact that the Japanese side was good, even though I didn't envisage the goal margin. The outcome means that we will return to the trenches and re-strategize."

Meanwhile, Falconets defender, Glory Ogbonna, is confident that the the team will fight on and revive their FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup trophy hopes, as well as redeem Nigeria's image in Papua New Guinea.

"Collectively, as a team, we have accepted the fact that we started badly against Japan, but it doesn't mean that we have given up because all hope is not lost," she says.

"I believe that the reason for Sunday's defeat was a clarion call for us as a team to wake up to the harsh realities on ground. If we had won or drawn that game, apparently, the whole team would feel that we have arrived.

"Canada is a must-win for us and it is not negotiable. We have learnt our lessons in a bitter and humiliating way. I want to promise all Nigerians that we must redeem our image and march on in this tournament.”

Nigeria will face Canada in their second Group B match on Wednesday at the Bava Park Stadium in Port Moresby. Both countries are at the bottom of the table with no point.

robosky02 my man, no need to watch this match, we re going nowhere, the girls played very badly against japan and i dont see us making any headway in this match. canada might whoop us, i say 'might' because they lost 5-0 to spain in their opening game, meaning they and Nigeria are the weeping babies in the group

Nigerian girls showed they were not even comfortable with ball during the match with Japan. They could not pass the ball to a team mate even if their lives depended on it. Besides the players spotting jersey number 5, 3, 4 and 1, the rest of the team members were spectators on the field. How did Ajibade, the bad luck player, make the team?

No no, I blame the NFF for the mess. The Japanese team was camped very early and they have been preparing for this tourney since last year, they had the time, Unlike the falconets. The team camp wasn't open early at the appropriate time due to insufficient fund as it was addressed by the NFF, this really hindered the progress of the team, No arrangement for Strong friendly games from the Federation. I can't blame the coach, he didn't have the normal time and resources to gel this team.

Peter Dedevdo is a very good coach.! if not the best, he's one of the best female coaches we have in Nigeria.

All the players are scraps, the team lack fitness,i watched the match from start to finish, the players are too heavy, static and only using strength, Canada will collect their three points from this falconet tomorrow. We can't be deceiving ourselves on female football in Nigeria,we are not doing enough to develop the sport.I don't know any of the players that scored above 10%,they were just playing anywhere belle face and balloing the ball.No single attempt at goal, they should just play what they can play and go back home.I am always a patrotic person but what i saw of the team against Japan was not what i expect from a Nigerian female team that was once second in the world.
