Algerians Launch Petition To Stop Gassama From Officiating Games Over Goal Scored By Mikel

An online petition set up by an agitated fan of the Algeria national team aimed at preventing Gambian referee Bakary Papa Gassama has gathered momentum, with over 100 people putting their name to it.

The 37 year old is allowed John Obi Mikel goal, which was seemingly scored from an offside position to stand as Nigeria secure a 3-1 win over Algeria in the CAF 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

Coach of Algeria Georges Leekens has narrowed his side defeat to that second goal scored by Mikel few minute to the half time break, as it somehow killed the game off as a contest after 45 minutes.

Video replays analyzed by soccer experts in Algeria proved, Mikel was indeed offside when he scored the second goal for Nigeria and it has lead to the online petition.

They want FIFA to ban Gassama from games in the World Cup 2018 qualifiers particularly games against them as they are yet to win a game he has handled.

STATS REPORT:

Prior to their 3-1 loss to The Super Eagles, Algeria had not lost an international game in over a year.
They last tasted the pill of defeat on October 9,
2015 when they were beaten 2-1 by Guinea in a
friendly game decided at the Stade du 5 Juillet
1962 (al-Jaza’ir (Algiers).

Also .............

The last time Algeria lost a competitive game before the November 12 WCQ tie was almost two years ago when they were beaten 3-1 by eventual champions, the Ivory Coast on February 1 at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Equatorial Guinea.

Read this article and tell me why Dele Alli would've wanted to play for us. It's a known fact that Fashanu tried to convince him to play for us.

Very disturbing news. Nice post. I hope Dele Alli changes his attitude towards his parents and siblings. He is acting like a spoilt child. His parents did not give him the kind of life he wanted, it is obvious they still love and care for him.

I hope he matures soon or he might regret his actions.

His model girl friend should serve as a bridge, not someone who widens the gap between Dele and his family.

Heart breaking for his mom to have his pictures all over her wall. Yet, such a child does not love her back.

So long as FIFA cannot cancel the goal, who cares?

Mikel may jst have been be 1-3 inches offside but that is not significant enough. The judgment could have gone either ways. The refs are no machines to spot offsides to a level of 100% accuracy.

The Algerians have no case.
even from that picture mikel wasn't offside... That offside line isn't straight if you are to match it with the edges of the box,, it is wider by algeria's players side and the line moved slightly towards Mikel

So friendly matches are only for teams that have tournaments coming? You know that's not true. We've played friendlies when we had no tournament coming up immediately. If we say we need matches to try new players and formations, it is not recommended that you try them out in real matches. Now is the time to try out other guys in the problematic positions to see if they meet the Super Eagles quality.

Una no get money to dey organise friendlies like that.

I'm sure we'll at least get some quality friendlies before the world cup, but for now, work with the finances. We don't need the friendly as much as they need it for now, so no need to tire our legs. Remember before our AFCON in 2013, we played Cape Verde and low profile teams as well.

Make dem play Egypt first in January, we'll play quality teams with time. Relax

they honestly don't.

That number 2 defender kept Mikel onside when he stopped and even when he moved forward to score, the guy followed him and still kept him onside for the goal.

If they want to sign petitions, they can sign for the removal of their number 2 defender from the team

Kenny Otigba on Rohr's mind, but Mba also?... Hmmm...
.......................................................................
Gernot Rohr Hands AFCON 2013 Hero Sunday Mba Super Eagles Lifeline

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has opened the door towards a potential recall for Nigeria AFCON 2013 hero Sunday Mba.

Mba has been in the international wilderness
since failing to make the cut to the 2014 World
Cup in Brazil, but Nigerians still hold him in high
esteem after his goal in the AFCON final against
Burkina Faso ended a 19 year wait for the Africa
Cup of nations title in 2013.

A wrongly advised move to French second
division strugglers CA Bastia, didn’t help his cause especially as they got relegated to the third division six months after he joined them.

He left the team two summers ago, following the expiration of his contract, and joined Yeni
Malatyaspor in Turkey, where he appears to have regained the form that made him a firm fan favourite with Nigerians.

His new found form led to a contract extension
as the second division side are currently leading
the log and are tipped to gain promotion to the
top division in Turkey.

Rohr will tour Turkey before the end of the year to check on Nigerian players plying their trade in the country and Sunday Mba is reportedly one of the players, he will meet while in Turkey.

The manager will also made checks on Azubuike Okechukwu who is at the same club and other Nigerian players in the country with players like Godfrey Obaboana, Kenneth Otigba, Kenneth Omeruo, Raheem Lawal and Austin Amutu.

Mikel has played more as a CM and AM for Nigeria than a DM.

He brings more to the team in a more advanced midfield position.

We had a similar argument abt how best to utilise Mikel at Rio.

He repeatedly has been played as a CM/AM under several Super Eagles coaches.

Onazi may not be among the most fancied DMs in the world but the lad has enough to maintain his spot in the Super Eagles team.

I know u dnt like Onazi so u would jump at any suggested formation that will send him to the bench.
Thanks for simple analysis.Honestly i don't understand all the fuss about Onazi should be dropped despite winning all our three matches under Rohr with Onazi playing important role in all those matches.

If i may ask Onazi should be drop for who(Ndidi)thank God Rohr is d coach and he knows better than football pundits here who keep on hammering Onazi should be dropped without any meaningful justification but for their love for Ndidi.

No doubts,Ndidi was delight to watch against Algeria just like Esiti against Zambia but d question is this are they better than Onazi when it comes to dirty work in d midfield.

Despite Onazi knock against Algeria Rohr refused to remove him and this is to tell us he rate Onazi very high than some us do.Going to Onazi style of play,it may not be beautiful to watch but d guy is workaholic.

The question we need to ask can Mikel and Ndidi combo gives us better result coz d two play similar pattern, though their combo w be beautiful to watch but what of d end result,to me we can't have two Mikel in d midfield,am stand to be corrected.

I thought I'll be loaned out - Iwobi

Alex Iwobihas admitted he never expected to be a first-team player so soon at Arsenal.

The forward burst onto the scene last season and has been able to keep his spot in Arsene Wenger’s squad this term.

He has appeared in nine out of Arsenal’s 11 Premier League games this year and he’s explained how that was beyond his wildest dreams not so long ago.

Iwobi told Arsenal’s website: “Honestly I didn’t expect to be where I am today.

“I thought a long time ago that I’d be on loan and probably get experience there before having experience in the first team.

“But the fact that the boss trusted me to jump into the first team as quick as I did, I’m just grateful for it.

“The same way I was able to break into it is the same way that I take the chance now.

“I play like it’s almost like my last game, I treat it like it’s my last moment here, so I do my best and I always put 100 per cent into whatever I do.”

Iwobi and Co face a difficult challenge this weekend as they travel to Old Trafford to play Manchester United. Arsenal sit fourth in the Premier League and will be looking to improve on their 1-1 draw with Tottenham last time out.

Nigeria 3-1 Algeria: Five things we learnt.

Obiweluozo Martins

The Super Eagles overpowered the Desert Foxes of Algeria to seize control of the group in the World Cup qualifying campaign with 6 points to their credit following a 3-1 win at home.

The Eagles were in top form with goals from Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel in the 42nd minute in between Victor Moses’ brace in the 26th and 91st minutes of the game to ensure Eagles victory in the encounter.

With the 3-1 win at home the Eagles leads the group with six points above closest rivals Cameroon who just have two points following a 1-1 draw at home with Zambia. The Eagles might have had a buoyant outing against Algeria but we take into consideration some key things as regards to the game.

MESMERIZING VICTOR MOSES

The Super Eagles winger was terrific all night and got a brace to show for it, with one of the goals coming in dying minutes of the game. The Chelsea man drew the first blood in the 26th minute following a mix-up in the Algerian box before applying the finish in the bottom corner to give Nigeria the lead after he was set up in transition by the Eagles skipper for the breakthrough.

The 25 years old who is enjoying a fine moment of his carrier at Chelsea under the management of Italian gaffer Antonio Conte who is a huge admirer of the Nigerian talent, was a threat down the wings as he caught the Algerian back line out of position.

Moses was outstanding in the game and crowned it all with a goal at the closing stage to end any possible chance of an Algerian comeback much to the delight of the home fans in Uyo.

KELECHI NOT A NUMBER 9

The Manchester City forward had a quiet game against Algeria after been deployed as a center forward ahead of more experience point man in Brown Ideye and Odion Ighalo.

It was evident that the Manchester City man was not so comfortable in that position as he was mostly out of play in the course of the 90 minutes.

The forward was deployed in the position due to his potency in front of goal but the golden boy fired blank after he was set up by Ahmed Musa in the 89th minute of the game. It was a game where the young lad was not able to initiate attacking moves as he was the point man causing him wonder mostly alone in the attack.

For a player who have an ability to create and finish himself, it’s no surprise that he is picked to lead the central role as goal scoring is the fundamental of the game but in Kelechi’s case Nigeria must return him to his best position which is behind the striker (free role) to aid this effect in match proceedings for the Super Eagles in the near future.

SHEHU GOOD AT RIGHT BACK

The former Youth international and Kano Pillars star was mostly under-utilized in the Super Eagles, understandably, but after a five star performance at the Olympic Games in Rio, one expected the Super Eagles crew to hand him the right back role especially with the defensive inconsistency in that position playing Omeruo (against Algeria) and Ndidi (against Zambia) was really worrisome and menacing for the Super Eagles as they lack enough fluency to rightly man the right back.

The likes of Yacine Brahimi and Rainford Kalaba were a thorn in the flesh of our right back (Omeruo and Wilfred Ndidi respectively) as they drifted in and out of the duo thus leaving the Eagles backline in imbalance.

Shehu Abdullahi was good and mobile enough and should be allowed to continue in that role in the near future but with credible competitor to keep him on his toes.

ALGERIA JUST UNPROFESSIONAL

At that level of the game you play only to the referees’ instructions and not to whatever you might have taught is the right decision.

Towards the end of the first half with Nigeria leading 1-0, Iwobi retrieved the ball back to Etebo in midfield who viciously found the Eagles skipper free in the box with an Algerian defence keeping him on side.

The referee allowed proceedings and the Super Eagles Captain, Mikel scored the easiest of goals more like a penalty as he turned to hook the ball into the net with the Algerians protesting for an offside which was to no avail as Eagles solidified their advantage with a 2-0 lead in the first period.

AHMED MUSA BETTER FROM THE BENCH..............

Read more here.....
www.soccernet.com.ng/2016/11/nigeria-3-1-algeria-five-things-we.html

The most dangerous player in the Super Eagles is Victor Moses and not Iheanacho or Iwobi.

E don tey wey I know dis one but unfortunately(fortunately for us na) the Algerians focused on Iheanacho and Iwobi.

Shehu Abdullahi should not be called to the National team again because he plays in an obscure league. He should be replaced with either Tyronne Ebuechi, Ola Aina or Brian Idowu.

I hope our coach is not having any vendetta against Russians because of what dey did to Germany, because I never see am mention Russian league. grin

Roma Nura Abdullahi Prime To Solve Super
Eagles Right Back Crisis Following Return From Injury

Highly rated Nigerian full back Nura Abdullahi
could be the long term solution to the right back issues current bedeviling the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Nura, who is highly rated around the corridors of Italian side AC Roma has been plagued by two
serious injury since joining the Serie A side on a
permanent transfer from Spezia, after a fruitful
loan spell alongside his child hood friend Sadiq
Umar.

However he has returned to full fitness and will
officially mark his comeback with a game for the
Primavera sie of the Rome based outfit, which
could be the spring he needs to make a first team appearance for the team.

Quick and strong in tackle, the 19 year old was
heavily linked with a move to Barcelona before he suffered a minor cardia issue last year that
required surgery.

Pictures of his return to training was posted by
the club on their website, a sign of how high the
club rates the defender, who at a point in time
was voted the best right teen back in Italy, while at Spezia.

Coach of the Nigeria senior team Gernot Rohr is
short of options at full back, particularly at right
back, where he has used three different players in the three games he has handled Nigeria.

Out of the three players, the coach has used only Musa Muhammed is a natural right back but his lack of game time at Turkish side Istanbul Basaksehir, means the duo of Wilfred Ndidi and Kenneth Omeruo have been deployed to his role despite their natural positions as central midfielder and defender.

What you posted here does not show the true state of Dele Alli's mind. This your article is about when he was a small boy. The article edi287 posted was written in September. Yours January.

We are talking of a lad who refused to see his father repeatedly after his dad traveled from US to see him. I beg, stop painting bad good.

Dele Alli should change. These are his family members.

Cameroon Coach – Hard To Find Any Weakness In Super Eagles Now, Maybe Next
Year Before We Play Them

Coach of the Cameroonian national team Hugo
Broos says he is happy his team won’t be playing Nigeria this year, due to the fact that the Super Eagles are on a high at the moment.

Cameroon are in the same group with Nigeria,
who are top of the group after two wins from the first two games of the group while Cameroon are yet to pick a win, with two draws from their opening ties.

Nigeria are currently four points ahead of
Cameroon but both teams won’t be meeting each other until August next year, and Broos said the timing couldn’t have been any better.

”They (Super Eagles) are on a high, hard to find
any weakness in them at the moment, maybe we are lucky because we don’t play them until next year. Hopefully we would have build up
confidence to explore any weakness”. He said.

”We will approach both ties against Nigeria with
the seriousness it deserves, they are beatable no
doubt, and after our not too impressive start, we
need a very good result against Nigeria”.

forgiveness:

The most dangerous player in the Super Eagles is Victor Moses and not Iheanacho or Iwobi.

E don tey wey I know dis one but unfortunately(fortunately for us na) the Algerians focused on Iheanacho and Iwobi.

Shehu Abdullahi should not be called to the National team again because he plays in an obscure league. He should be replaced with either Tyronne Ebuechi, Ola Aina or Brian Idowu.

I hope our coach is not having any vendetta against Russians because of what dey did to Germany, because I never see am mention Russian league. grin

So it's not about what he can offer but the league where he plays right?
