Both matches yesterday were decided by shady refereeing. Cameroon's goal was a foul and Zimbabwe had a clean goal called off.

Just as I predicted, the Ghanaians are pressing the Falcons in midfield which has resulted in Nigeria relying on long balls

Wasnt a bad game? I gotta tell ya... I didn't like what I saw. Our girls didnt play with enough intensity and were too cautious because of the Ghanaians' pressing... At times we were flat-footed. Ayinde was making some careless tackles one of which caused us.

Also, we oftentimes tried to overdo our stylish kinda football (tiki taka) and lost the ball.

We had no business drawing today's game but we just did.

Also, the officiating wasnt too good.

Chioma Wogu was the biggest flop today. Same strokes go to Chikwelu. Ayinde made some careless tackles one of which caused us 2 points but her industry in midfield was still okay.

Honestly, I also expected Oparanozie in before the 79th min. Wogu was just not it today.

Okobi did the best she could. The Ghanaians were so happy killing time and taking a share of the spoils. Boakye, Addo and Suleman were impressive for the Ghanaians in ball retention and their high pressing game sometimes especially in the second half.

Besides Ordega, Igbinovia, our defence and keeper everybody else flopped. We could not win any 50/50 balls, they were more hungry than us.

I would have rather we stuck with Sunday from the beginning. She missed some sitters but her size gave defenders trouble and Oshoala could play off her instead of waiting for the ball.
Also Okobi was not in that match she seems to have dropped off a bit, hope she can regain her form.

Just goes to show that, sometimes, talent is needed to excel. Adequate prep is good, but without half decent players, no team can go far.

After the dust has settled, I think the girls did quite OK yesterday. We might have expected a stronger performance, but we were in control and should have won yesterday. It is also good that this came in the group stage. Ghana parked the bus but our attack still penetrated them a few times.
Against Kenya, I expect to see our 2nd team. Let the likes of Ebere, Okobi, Oparanozie, Iroka, and maybe even the substitute keeper. We have already qualified for semi final anyway, except Kenya beat us by 4-0.

2016 Africa Women Nations Cup: Black Queens coach Basigi unhappy with Super Falcons draw

Yusif Basigi and her captain Safia Abdul Rahman at the pre-match conference.

Ghana coach Yusif Basigi has revealed his side wanted to win against Nigeria in yesterday's Africa Women Nations Cup Group B match but settled for a 1-1 draw.

The Black Queens conceded first on 19 minutes when Cynthia Adobia turned Asisat Oshoala’s shot into her own net. But Ghana equalized from the spot three minutes from the break through captain Elizabeth Addo, who was fouled by Halimat Ayinde inside the box.'

"We are not happy to draw, but it is good to draw when the need arises. Ghana versus Nigeria can go either way. If for any reason we draw, we have to take it in good faith,'' Basigi said in a post match conference.

''Against Mali, Nigeria opened up but against us itwas very close. The competition is still on. We have to approach the Mali with all the seriousness to win and qualify convincingly.''

Omagbemi blames referee

Nigeria coach Florence Omagbemi has questioned South African referee Akhona Makalima over her decision not to award the Super Falcons a penalty against Ghana in their Cameroon 2016 African Women’s Cup of Nations Group B clash in Limbe on Wednesday.

Black Queens’ Portia Boakye turned Asisat Oshoala’s shot into her own net in the 19th minute to give Nigeria the lead. But Elizabeth Addo beat Nigeria goalkeeper Alaba Jonathan from the sport three minutes before the recess to keep the score level at 1-1.

Omagbami, who rued the Falcons’ missed chances in the encounter with their fierce rivals, praised the opponents for their showing.

“The game was great and both teams played well,” the versatile former Nigeria captain, who won the tournament in 1998, 1998, 2000and 2002, told Cafonline after the game.

“Ghana gave us a good match and it was an impressive game. The foul on Asisat Oshoala was a clear penalty in my own assessment.

“I was disappointed in the referee for not making the call. We were not over confident after the 6-0 victory over Mali.

“Today, we played against a good team and it was a good match by both teams. A draw is not a bad result.

”Her Black Queens counterpart Yusif Basigi said he was not happy with the outcome of the clash, saying his team deserved full points from the fixture.

Oshoala disappoints as Ghana hold Nigeria

Idris Adesina

Ghana on Wednesday held defending champions Nigeria to a 1-1 in their Cameroon 2016 African Women’s Cup of Nations Group B clash in Limbe.

Black Queens’ Portia Boakye turned Arsenal Ladies forward Asisat Oshoala’s header into her own net in the 19th minute for the Super Falcons’ lead, but Ghana equalised three minutes from the break from the spot through skipper Elizabeth Addo, who was fouled in the Nigerian box. Oshoala, who scored four goals in the 6-0 defeat of Mali on Sunday, failed to inspire the Falcons to victory.

However, the Falcons still top Group B with four points – same as Ghana – but with a superior goal difference. Nigeria play Kenya on Friday in their last group match while Ghana meet Mali.

Nigeria coach Florence Omagbemi started Chioma Wogu in place of Uchechi Sunday as they sought to maintain their superiority over their bitter rivals.

The Falcons began the better of the two sides as they pegged the Black Queens back for the opening 18 minutes of the encounter but could not take the lead, despite creating good chances.

Thereafter the Nigerians got anxious in front of goal and blew several goalscoring chances as they failed to take advantage of their possession.

The Queens grew into the game and got their first shot on goal in the 23rd minute through a free-kick, which was played wide. They drew level in the 42nd minute after defender Ugo Njoku was adjudged to have fouled Ghana striker Samira Suleiman. Addo stepped up and calmly dispatched the kick past Jonathan Alaba.

In the second half, the Falcons piled much pressure on their opponents but the Queens were well-organised in defence.

Oshoala should have put Nigeria ahead in the63rd minute but failed to connect a cross by Francisca Ordega. And in the 77th minute, substitute Florence Dadson came close at the other end, but Jonathan timed her run well.

A move by Faith Ikidi pierced the Ghanaian defence in the 88th minute but Ordega could only fluff the opportunity with substitute Desire Oparanozie, who replaced Wogu, unmarked behind her.

In added time, Nigeria’s appeals for a penalty after goalkeeper Ama Nana Asantewaa upended Oshoala were ignored by the referee.

I blame supersports for removing the camera from Oshoala after she got fouled and refusing to show the replay. They should have shown the penalty appeal and let the viewer decide. It seems nobody wants the falcons to win. It is us against the world, or in this case us against Africa.

Some of these media houses baffles the mind with their poor reportage. what i have read so far are incorrect. Asisat Oshoala never had two assists against Mali & never scored against Ghana. But they kept churning out this wrong news since the games started.

@bolded... My thoughts exactly.

And yep... Factors rising up to try frustrate our girls from hitting La Decima but we'll see how they pull that off in the end. The Super Falcons still have the most potent sting. Africa wanna rob us? They'll have to try harder.... smiley

With fair officiating, NO TEAM in that AWCON can beat the super falcons. However, it seems there is a consensus amongst other Africans to deny Nigeria the cup by all means.

Nigeria vs Egypt or Nigeria vs South Africa. I prefer Nigeria vs South Africa.

To me the easier one would be Egypt. They have a good team but they are young and could be easily rattled. South Africa would be like playing Mexico at boys u17, they have lost to us so much and that could give them the extra motivation they need.
