After the company I had worked for 3 years plus announced they were leaving Nigeria due to the harsh economic situation, I was happy when I secured another job on 30th of November 2016, which was the last day of my previous job. I couldn't wait to share my testimony here, lol.

Upon resumption, I realised people worked like horses for the company(Monday to Saturday)with no overtime bonus for working till about 10, 11pm if u have to, the best u get is a hotel room for the night if you can no longer go home. I was the only one going out for break and closing by 5.I understood because I was new, they didn't want to complain and wanted me to settle down. Hmmmmm, see work Oooooo. Although I had heard of such companies It was beginning to dawn on me that I had just gotten into one.

I terminated my appointment and no amount of persuasion from the management could stop me (If the offer is so cool, they should give it else with my experience and pay the person, shikena!)Why beg me?

I know the situation in Nigeria is terrible and many people doing such jobs are holding on till they get another job, its not easy to bear, sincerely.Employers especially Lebanese are taking the advantage to enslave Nigerians. Unfortunately, our government is still asleep.

I resigned because my circumstances at the moment does not demand for me to work under such poor conditions of service. But then, not every Nigerian has same circumstances and can take such a bold step.It is really heart breaking to see people suffer like this.

Have u worked under such conditions before? please share.

Probably the best decision but then how do u survive after quitting?
Worked in a place before as a research assistant where we were expected to work Monday to Monday with no free days. The pay was horrible but I hung on cos I was desperate then and didn't have enof experience. They took 3 years of my life till one day I couldn't take it anymore I approached the boss for a raise, he refused so I told him I would quit. He just laughed at me and called my bluff. I quit 3 days later. He called me immediately he got my quit and asked me what my terms where to restart. I told him. He told me I didn't have the credentials to ask for those terms. That was when I started fishing out my documents. I joined the research team as a student, did my masters with them and my post doctorate which he had personally supervised. I submitted all those documents before and never heard anything. I had before then tried severely to speak with him but he kept avoiding me hence my decision to quit.

He looked at the documents I presented him and smiled then said that he had seen those documents and would offer me a lesser position to the one I felt I was entitled to, the position he accepted to offer me was much better than the one I initially had but still under my level. That was when I knew that he had no good intentions for me.
I told him what I wanted and he said if only I had a certain professional certificate he would have given me that position within a twinkle of an eye. I looked him in the eye and pulled out the certificate to that professional exam he had just spoken about.

I had taken that exam a year before and had done it behind his back. Normally one needed to inform the departmental director before sitting for any professional exam but he was so convinced that I needed him so he didn't bother to read some documents I had slipped him to sign a year ago.
U can imagine the shock on his face as he saw the certificate. Still he told me "let me think about it".

They offered me the job and position I asked for but I refused the salary scale and asked for something higher and it was approved the next day. The contract was brought to my house by his secretary. I apologized and rejected the job.

When he called me to find out why I rejected. I told him cos I felt my efforts will be better appreciated elsewhere. He freaked out.
Met him at a seminar some weeks back and we spoke like old friends

The most disheartening is that the Nigerian managers appointed by these foreign organizations play to the tune of treating people like slaves.

Nigerians are more wicked to fellow Nigerians.
You said it all Sir. Nigerian Managers, HRs and Force Men under these coys always support these foreigners. I actually have a lot to say concerning this post but I can't afford to talk in vain without it yielding a positive result. Imagine people around you hailing anytime you manage to visit them because they know you work as an Engineer in a power generation company, but little do they know that you earn stipend and work 72 hours a week with tension under Indians. Just let me stop here cuz....

Come on, I have worked with iSON BPO and the conditions aren't as bad as the op's. And besides you work for 8hrs, 5 days a week...

Some people are just insatiable and ignorant. our government is the badass that treats us as poo, not these investors/ companies. They are simply here to make profit. If the conditions are bad, government should intervene.
Isonbpo (Ibadan) A company that provides free transport to and from work, full health cover (a friend got paid over 200k for his wife C's session), drinking water throughout the shift, world class facility (if you think ShopRite got air conditioning- go to Ison and see Ac) Full pension, incentives ( know at least 50 people including entry level staff that were taken abroad few years ago for performance incentives holiday.
If you really want to know if Ison is trying or not, take a survey in Ibadan and you will see where Ison stands. Imagine a state owing 6 months salary and ISON that pays unfailingly 25th of every month. I remember the month bank delayed salary till 27th, there was war. This might sound strange to those who are owed several months salary.

If you think any of my statement above is wrong, say it here. There is dignity in labour.

For me, government is the issue, not these companies. Company and allied act should be reviewed.

My brothers, I pray that one day God will heal this country..I had my own experience too this time fully owned Nigeria company (logistics), I worked there for 6months and it wasn't funny. Got #50k as salary no pension, no health insurance only the salary. The most annoying part is that the MD is a lady, who doesn't know anything but to shout and insult her staffs. Most of our drivers are Yorubas and aged people come see the way she rained insult on them. I resigned because I spoke with one of our client and cos of that my salsry was slash by half. And funny enough all the drivers and other staffs are owning me money even till date. I got another job just 2 weeks after that this time to Indian owned coy, but my dear am treating them like trash, I go to work anytime and close anytime I told them that they can sack me if they like but I wouldnt release their vehicle to them until they pay me off. I attended one interview in Abuja from Lagos and there I saw our some people are anjoying. It's an NGO firm, my dear they treat their staffs like kings and queens, you can imagine they refunded my Tfare money and paid for my hotel. God will help us..
Company like Nestle. The only foreign owned company that gives better treatment to her local workers.

I have. We even closed at midnight sometimes! All with no overtime pay. Work is Monday to Saturday. It is draining and kills a person's social and family life. I am still working there but hopefully I will be able to leave at d end of dis month for a better one.

Hmmmm.... interesting. We are the ones that give the employers that power. Why?... we do absolutely nothing to force them to change. We don't like the working conditions... we just quit... and allow someone else to enter the same situation. Of you are going to quit. ... as in OP's case.... and especially when you know they really need you..... make demands... the salary you want. .. to be paid on time... overtime pay.... 1 hrs lunch break.... breaks 10 minute breaks after 2 hours work.... most likely they will bit tell you to be quiet about it...which you shouldn't be....let the other workers know to incite them. There are things workers can do.... sabotage the company. ... working slow... making mistakes that would cost the company huge amounts of money... these are called silent protests. You work in a factory.. engineer.. know the ins and outs of a key motor... you know what to do to shut it down that experts would take ages to figure out...shut it down. I can't for the life if me let one pay day pass me by.... if they can't pay me...I'll pay myself... must be paid.. by hook or by crook. We need to start standing up for our rights. If need be...threaten the bosses... let the fear of a lynching be hanging over their heads.

Worked under Lebanese and Indians (terrible human beings!). Though There are very few good ones among them (very few, i said) (one out of 150). Théy illegally bring their illiterate brothers, place them ahead of u while u teach them English and on-the-job-training. This happens mostly when they discover that u don't know your right and that is one of thé reasons they go for cheap labour, but are scared of d wise ones; rather they fake friendship with thèm (d wise) in order to achieve their aim. Thé worst is that our regulatory bodies are not helping matters, instead they prefer to reach an agreement of monthly payment/allowance from them and disgracefully dance to their tune. Qualified undergraduate applicants will be wasting their little resources sending applications, coming and calling for reply. Meanwhile thèse officials will be bringing their wards & g/friends through thé back door every now and then. An official document that u have been battling going through processes for months to get, will fly down in a well-packaged envelope to them (with thank you sir) after a minute call. Our girls are another set of disgrâce to us before thèse people (topic 4 another day).
We need a génération of sane & conscientised minds to tackle thèse things. My prayer everday!

The supervisors walked around to ensure we did not lean over the tables. It was my first job so the excitement kept me there for a month.
