Finally, Ohaneze Ndigbo Backs Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu by Kamanuozuzu: 7:59am On Dec 10, 2016
— 10th December 2016
From Chidi Nnadi, Enugu

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has expressed its unflinching support for agitation for a sovereign state of Biafra.

The organisation announced its backing at a press conference organised by its Secretary General, Dr Joe Nworgu even as Ohanaeze revealed it was set hand over to new national officers in January after election and to confirm the ban placed on the youth wing of the organisation.

Nworgu said that the continued marginalisation of the Igbo has made the agitation for the state of Biafra inevitable, saying that Igbo adults are as disgruntled as the youths who are leading in the agitation for Biafra.

He said Ohanaeze had not condemned the Biafran agitation by the youths, asking “why should we condemn what is true?”

According to him,“the difference is that while the parent body is preaching patience, the youths don’t have time for such; youths must be youths, so they are responding in their own ways. But the problem is the same injustice, insensitivity, exclusionism. All these factors are creating the agitation, but the conclusions are different. The elders or elderly people are advising, thinking that maybe there will be a change of mind, but the youths have no time.”

Nworgu pointed out that the marginalization of the Ndigbo has been on the increase after the civil war.

His words: “It has been very bad since 1970, but under Buhari, it has been exacerbated and his attitude and utterances are not helping matters. In fact, Buhari is even acting to provoke us into taking a wrong step and to have a reason for a clampdown. So, we are advising our youths to calm down based on the mindset of our president. When he was appointed I said Ndigbo will desire a president who will be president to all Nigerians because nepotism is corruption.”

He said Buhari’s negligence of the Igbo became manifest when he made his first 32 appointments, but left the Igbo with nothing.

“There are many sectors of governance but when you have taken all the plum things, put them under your town’s people, what do you expect the other people to do, they will feel excluded. That is why Ndigbo are not happy with his administration,” he said.

Nworgu who spoke on Thursday said Ndigbo knew ab initio the antecedent of Buhari, and that made them to support former President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 presidential election. He said they have no regrets in supporting Jonathan.

On the ban of the youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, he said the action was justified, maintaining that “there has been immense rascality by members of the youth wing and the parent body was not satisfied with what was happening and a committee was set up under Prof Atamuo to investigate the activities of these young people who are supposedly tomorrow’s leaders. When their report came out and it was presented to NEC and NEC felt that the report was so damaging that it needs not go public; so NEC decided to take the young wing out of action. So, we resolved that the youth wing be suspended.

However, the youth leaders who told Saturday Sun that they have reconciled their differences accused Nworgu and the president general of chastising them as their tenure of office would expire in 2019, saying that their travails were not unconnected with alleged sum of money the parent body got from Dasuki.

But Nworgu said: “No money came to Ohanaeze from Dasuki, Ohanaeze knows nothing about Dasuki’s money, but a drowning man can fabricate anything.”

When told that the youth leaders claimed to have video evidence of the Dasuki money, he said: “That is still the height of the rascality we are talking about. For anybody to conceptualise such rubbish; Ohanaeze got no money from Dasuki.”

On the hand over date in January, he assured that new officers would be elected and his regime would hand over to them in January. He disclosed that the body would soon call for the Ime-Obi meeting and the date for the election determined, saying that there was no more crisis in Ohanaeze.

How does that contribute to the realisation of a fraud of a country?

When you are really ready for secession, you will take the proper route.

too slow. its like igbo people dont know what they really want, after Nnamdi Kanu has stayed that long in detention.
This was long overdue.
The president CLEARLY doesn't understand Nigeria and her diversity and so he wants to put one whole tribe under his armpit because he has control of the guns.

Enough is enough; Yorubas need to come together and share same views with Igbo, this country can not move forward unless we go back to regional system of government or we brake up, if not, some set of bunch of zombies will continue milking this country without any positive contribution.

Thank you and I appreciate your maturity.

The constitution does not recognise secession or referendum or Sovereign National Constitutional Conference.

1. We need to get the constitution amended to recognise the aforementioned. This can be done with a bridge building and alliance of NC, SW, SE and SS.

2. Afterwards convey a SNCC where a new constitution will be written with full an explicit insertion of referendum and secession into the new constitution.

3. Based on the new constitution, call for referendum that will be supervised by UN.

4. Based on the result of the referendum activate the secession clause.

This was th peaceful process of dissolution of Yugoslavia and USSR. Those nations constitution supported it.

The question has always been who in the UN Security Council will back a secession without a constitutional backing of the Sovereign Nation? None, because all of them have secession cries in their backyard --- China has Tibet and Taiwan, Russia has Chenchya, US has the State of California and now Texas, UK had Scotland, Canada has Quebec, Spain has Basque and Catalonia, France only gave semi-autonomous status to Monaco.

Secession is not a straightforward jacket, except you are ready to go to full scale war and be successful like South Sudan, Eritrea and Bosnia Hezergovina, Croatia etc or you can fail like Biafr.a or Tamils of Sri Lanka, UNITA of Angola and now FARC of Colombia.

This is the bitter truth IPOB will never tell their gullible adherents.

It is not my problem as long as you limit your secession cry to your space. If you do not want opposition to your fantasy and mirage of the nation, take your cries for it out of NL.

Create another forum for secession and not our dear NL. All the ones you created last year died in natural death.

You made a valid point here, but you don't have to tag their agitation a "fraud", to pass your message. Besides, what makes you think they are not already considering the point you raised? Judging from the fact that the organization is made up of intellectuals and think tanks....

Nope, you got it all wrong. It’s waxing stronger by the day. Intellectuals are keying in to the struggle. And mind you, not every Biafran supporters toe the part of IPOB... Lots of technical strategist are joining the band wagon by the day; so don't kill yourself.... inugo.

Yes, limiting the struggle to the supposed space is guaranteed. So that should not be your headache.
Our sole reason staying behind on this forum is to counter minds like yours.... minds that are shackled by hate and perfidy….minds that are subconsciously opposed to true change, but loves and celebrate internal slavery. Everything that Nigeria stands for.

We are here to put you in your proper place. Therefore, keep calm and mind your business. Our aspiration should not be your problem.

Mr ewedugerian, your nigeria had a constitution before independence, was that constitution amended to include independence before the British left? Was the British constition amended to allow Scottish referendum and Brexit from EU?

I guess common sense have sworn never to pally with ewedu-eating morons. You wait for another man to dictate when you want to leave a union. I guess that's why your conquered people remain under the shackles of the Emirate for centuries.

We in the East do not have a problem with yoruba addiction to slavery. The problem is you also want to infect the East with the infirmity of cowardice and slavery, when they refuse to be infected, you lament and speak long grammar in frustration. grin
