As we all remember in the past when we thought of wedding meals all we could look forward to was just jollof rice, fried rice, cow meat and maybe those who were rich would add swallow like semo and pounded Yam. Of course the drinks always flowed on both the alcoholic and non alcoholic section. The point here is that small chops wasn’t a thing at weddings in the late 90s but as time went on it caught on and it became a popular edible finger food which consists of puffpuff (too much puffpuff if I may add), Mosa (banana puffpuff), grilled chicken (usually tiny, maybe it’s the teenage chickens they use), springrolls and Samosa.
While the savory condiments mentioned above are delicious in their own rights we believe more should be added to the small chops platter. Since the main dishes of weddings have been upgraded because now people serve Chinese rice, burgers, Yam pottage etc…why not upgrade the small chops platter.

1. Swirly fries:

Yes, deep fried Irish potato designed in a swirly and twirly manner then spiced with some peppery and cheesy Italian spices. Damn, just talking about it makes me hungry. I know Irish potato is expensive and hard to peel but if you want to go all out and impress your guests trust me you should add this to your small chops.

2. Akara:

Raise your hands if you’ve tasted Hausa Ankara. The type where its extra spicy and then they give you a side of Yaji pepper to dip inside for an explosive taste.

3. Fried Yam:

At one point of our lives we’ve all tasted the roadside fried yams with that delicious oily peppersauce. Don’t you think that sexy tongue pleaser deserves a spot in the small chop plate.

4. Ojojo:

This is a Yoruba snack that Ijebu people like to claim as theirs. Its grated wateryam that’s spiced and deep fried. Its very delicious and also deserve a space in the small chops platter

5. Akara coated yam:

I don’t know the exact name of this edible trinket but those of you who have tasted it can testify that it’s delicious and would look beautiful on the small chops plate.

6. Yoyo n shrimps:

This delicious finger food can be claimed by Lagosians from Isale eko. I would trade puffpuff for this any day any time.

7. Chopped Boli:

Do you really need me to start explaining why Boli should be added to the platter, its like explaining why dodo should be added to jollof rice. Abeg, I won’t belittle boli and insult it by giving reasons why it belongs on the small chops platter.
