As a man of integrity and truthfulness which you claim to be, you should have told the VO you will not be coming back after your studies. You probably lied or got lucky and they didn't ask you the question.

Everybody's situation in life is different. We're not born with the same privileges.
You didn't need to work under the table to complete college and become successful, because your parents had the money or you were privileged to have the money. But others do.
Everybody deserves a chance to be successful in life(silver spoon or not).

Finally, stop judging peoples actions by checking them with what you had to do.
We are different people with different destinies and would each probably have to do things differently before we can become successful.

Life is not easy, different strokes for different folks.

I firmly disagree with you... and you're absolutely free to disagree with me too. However, the attitude of "the end justifies the means" is frankly why much of Africa remains backward. I find it odd that Africans who routinely think nothing of lying on visa applications, openly brag about breaking laws, think laws should exist only inasmuch as it benefits them and them only... are the very ones fasting and praying to go live in foreign countries peopled by those who uphold honesty and obeying the law almost to a fault. The foreign countries we are all dying to go to did not appear by magic. It took years of self-sacrifice, devotion to building an orderly nation and patriotism to the point of self-denial!

How many Nigerian government offices do you see open for work promptly at 8am? On the flipside, how many times do you find an American making frivolous excuses to avoid work or taking 3 hour lunch breaks?

Yes everyone deserves a chance to be successful in life, but success at the expense of integrity is simply luck.

Let me quickly disabuse some of the frankly unserious stuff you posted above:

1. Lying to the VO about coming back after school - No i did not lie to the VO because that question was not even asked. Surprising at it might seem, there was a time when you did not need a visa to go to the UK and getting a US visa was as simple as showing up at the consulate. The reason many of these questions are coming up now is simply because the VOs have become much wiser to the fact that most of the folks who show up asking for F1 visas are not students at all... but dishonest economic migrants. If i were in their shoes, i would not want you in my country either. Stay in your country... there are consequences for thinking laws don't matter. Nigeria is one...

2. Not having to work under the table because of privileged parents - Wrong. My father told me point blank that he did not have any money to help me out after my bachelors degree, so getting a bank account from him (like many have been privileged to get) was out of the question. Rather i sat back and spent 3 years meticulously gathering all the information i needed to pursue a graduate program without any financial assistance from anyone. I not only got into the top graduate program in my field, i obtained a $65,000 tuition + benefits fellowship + $18,500/year stipend. In other words, i went to school for 5 years, for free and i was even paid for it! All it takes is diligence, hard-work and determination. Much of your problem isn't that you were not born with a silver spoon, its that you're frankly too lazy to put in the work necessary.

3. Everyone deserves a chance to be successful - i beg to differ. The dishonest and the criminal do NOT deserve a chance to be "successful". That type of empty "success" is why many of us have left Nigeria today.

4. stop judging peoples actions by checking them with what you had to do - I am not "judging". This word has become a catchall phrase by those who are unwilling to face their flaws. I did not do anything special... anyone with a computer and a brain can do what i did. The difference is that i was willing to put in the effort, you simply want to come on here, post a question (that is on the thread if you bothered to read it at all) then walk over to get a stamped visa at the consulate the next day.

5. We are different people with different destinies - No, we are just people who think differently. I value diligence, you seem to be ok with the attitude of "anything goes".

6. Life is not easy - Life is what you make of it. I grew up with not much, like many of you. I have a best friend who grew up with even less and with one parent missing... if he could do it without compromising his integrity, so can you. Get to work!

I see visa interview just the same way I see an advocate defending his/her client for committing a crime. The advocate can lie and shield a lot of information in order to get his client free of the charges.

Clearly, it depends on how you are able to defend your case with VO (lies or truth, partial or full information).

If you're wondering why Nigeria is a completely disorganized dump... see above. Based on this, our politicians are justified to completely loot the treasury... afterall they are just "defending their case" like an attorney would.

Brother, if you know you cant stand somethings here, just scroll and ignore,i don't think its hard to do that. From your post its like you don't even want anyone to come over to America. In reality that might be wrong but that's what most of us can infer from your posts.All these back and forth argument and insults wont do anybody any good. Sometimes i see some posts here and i am like don't they know VOs come here,all i do is just ignore and not cause unnecessary argument and that doesn't make me less of a man.

Plenty of Nigerians here... and its easy to see why Nigeria isn't growing. You go to Houston and Nigerian restaurants are consistently the only restaurants that do not open at the time they claim they would. You try the phone numbers and they are either discontinued, switched off or picked up by a bored assistant on the 10th ring who rudely tells you to come back 4 hours after the posted opening time. I just came back from a foreign trip a few hours ago, the limo driver who picked me up today was a Nigerian - and he was the first limo driver I've had in the past 4 years who was late, could not locate the arrival lounge and who i had to call three times to locate.

I'd like a lot of Nigerians here... but i frankly would prefer the lazy, the dishonest and the scurrilous to stay back in Nigeria. These people are the reason the green passport has become the emblem of sleaze the world over.

Well i agree with you, we need to change our behaviors, some bad people have made the good ones look very bad.
