Firstly, I have to dedicate this phone to CBN forcing me to buy a budget phone as a result of one of their restrictive policies angry ,while at the same time teaching me how to be 'wise' wink

Well, just had to do this review to enlighten some guys on a mean budget, on how not to break the bank for a budget device. (looking at you Tecno and Infinix)

Pictures coming soon. wink

just got it from china in the below pictures.

Re: Xiaomi Redmi 4A Review: Perfection On A Budget. by Elxandre(m): 8:23pm On Jan 23, 2017
I was willing to spend just somewhere around 50k.
Looking through Konga and Jumia made me annoyed.
Almost 60k for just Infinix hot 4 pro, 50k for Tecno W5 with 1gb ram. undecided

I stumbled upon Xiaomi thread on Nairaland, and was surprised to learn that just N320/$ was GTB's rate albeit with a $100 monthly limit.

Settled for the Redmi 4A cos I only had a GTB card, and I wasn't willing to use a third party's Access card ( Access bank charges $325/N qith a $200 monthly limit).

Note:Aliexpress has a wallet service which can be funded with as many cards as possible.

Going through all this sermon to answer the inevitable "how did you go about it" questions

FAST FORWARD TO THE PHONE'S REVIEW
The box contents are pretty basic. A 1A charger, Sim Ejector pin, USB cable, and an obviously useless instructional manual is all the phone comes with.
The phone is plastic but solidly built and very light, it weighs just about 140grams I think. I'm just wondering what these other OEMs put in their heavy phones.
I bought the Gold color because I couldn't stand the other, available colour; Rose Gold. (Tim Cooks cynical way of un-demonizing the pink color for Men, but Kolewerk grin )

Equipped with a Snapdragon 425, the device is a certainly lower midrange smartphone, but very capable though.

please be patient as I'm busy I don't even know wetin make me start the thread this night sef. sad

IF you noticed in the above picture, it's equipped with an IR blaster, Used for controlling your home appliances, in case you somehow dont know. wink

Booting it on, you notice the screen, which is extremely good for it's price. Great color saturation with no notable colour loss at even exteme viewing angles.

UPDATE: The phone's screen is very visible under direct sunlight.
Also an LED indicator is present in the phone, with settings to customise different colours for different notifications

Installed out of the box is MIUI, Xiaomi's custom rom, running Marshmallow 6.0.1.
You get 1gb ram free out of the available 2gb of Ram.
It's really smooth and NEVER LAGS under heavy use.
Keep in Mind that this isn't the Galaxy S7 or Iphone 7, so it isn't blazing fast, but It's quite good.
I forgot to mention, it actually supports 4G LTE.

Don't ask me about games, because I don't play games on my phones anymore nowadays, but with an Antutu score of 36,000, it should play most titles, even the heaviest of them at Medium quality with just some Lag smiley

Honestly, this is one of the better Andriod ROMs out there. Very lightweight, and "works".

battery life is key for Nigerians, and this phone doesn't actually disappoint with it's 3000mah battery.
Even though it's equipped with a Qualcomms Quick charge 2.0, it comes with no fast charger. Anyways charging time is around 2hours 15 minutes with the phone turned off.

I use my phone for the internet mostly, so I wonder what your own usage pattern might be.
I reckon anyone under any Sort of usage should get up to at least 7 hours screen on time.

you can find my Battery usage charts below. They were taken at different times to give more insight.

Camera is a 13mp unit with a 5mp selfie camera.

1. Selfie camera
2. Camera without HDR
3 Camera in HDR mode.

Won't bother talking about Night photos taken in total darkness. As you would expect from a budget smartphone, it isn't the greatest quality camera in total Darkness or too poorly lit conditions.

To sum it up, the phone has been great for the price.
You can always trust Xiaomi for better quality devices unlike other Chinese OEMs.
I got it for $93, but it's more expensive now at over $100.

To put this in perspective, in terms of pricing, Samsung J5 2016 has even poorer specs but retails at around 100k.

So instead of getting these rubbish quality phones at ridiculous prices, you can be smart and get something better.

GTB mastercard.
$93 plus shipping equals to $99.

Went for a Samsung S4...

Xiaomi wasted time in pushing this device to the market and I needed a phone urgently...

I waited for two weeks after it was released to the market but aliexpress, gearbest and Co were still having it on pre-order which was very expensive... sad
Re: Xiaomi Redmi 4A Review: Perfection On A Budget. by SirKriz(m): 11:29pm On Jan 23, 2017
It's now $115 on AliExpress, shipping not included. OP what site did you get it from and how long did delivery take?

You combine two or more cards to fund Alipocket.
Access bank used to have a $200 limit, but I heard they now have $100 limit.
I'm not sure about the info.

Aliexpress.
Took 13 days from shipping.

I unknowingly bought it when it was on presale though, so that's why I got it at less than $100 I think.
