I have been in US for about 5 years on H1B and working in a top tier tech firm. My employer has filed my GC in 2013 but in EB2 it can take roughly about 10 years more (average). I have good savings to also start something in my home country. Looking to hear from people who have waited that long.

Forget US go to Canada.

It is close enogh. It is easy enough to get Permanent Residency. After five years and becoming Canadian citizen you can come to work to US again under TN provision (if they keep it in place which is not clear right now).

On the other hand what do you mean waiting for GC? You are still working, making money, accumulate even more savings, No?

I remember this episode from Golden Girls TV show. Sophia talks to her daughter Dorothy:

Sophia: I decided to go to law school and become a lawyer.

Dorothy: Mom, but you are 85. It takes seven years to become a lawyer, by the time you do it you will be 92.

Sophia: In seven years I will be 92 anyway, I might as well be a lawyer.

Obviously the person with this problem is Indian. A nigerian should not need to spend 5 years waiting for a green card even in the EB2 category,

I love Nigeria and things made by Nigerians, so please don't take my next comment the wrong way.
Your comment is kind of an insult to Quora. I say so because, Quora is a site that cares a lot about the qualities of their answers, Nairaland on the other hand doesn't at all.
Nairaland has an authoritarian founder. Tribalism is a day-to-day scenario, yet he has done nothing to correct the nusiance. About the mods, I don't even want to get there. The anti-spam bot is crappy. The ad system is a total failure. Ads seen by a user should be based on the users interest(Section the users stays longer in, based on the topic the user posts in, the comments dropped by the user etc) and I keep getting similar 'Bobrisky' ads.
I don't hate Nairaland but it has a very long way to go.
