Lieutenant General Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau- What Are You Up To? by sammyzacks(m): 10:12am On Feb 25, 2010
Although Yar’adua’s return was facilitated by members of the kitchen cabinet, facts are now emerging as to how the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau, was co-opted into the deal. Our sources indicate that Dambazau last night ordered the deployment of two battalions in Abuja without clearing with Jonathan, the acting president. A diplomatic source from an EU nation told Saharareporters, “The ability of the army chief to move troops without the knowledge or approval of the acting president raises serious security questions.”

Our sources indicated that Dambazau is deeply implicated in improper financial deals that made it easy for the Yar’adua hawks to enlist him in their plans. According to a petition shown to Saharareporters, the COAS, through the Ministry of Defense, had awarded “peacekeeping” contracts worth N9 billion to fictitious companies reportedly owned by James Ibori, an Israeli arms supplier, Alon Neiken (the owner of Megaplaza in Lagos) and Dambazau. Sources told Saharareporters that Dambazau has a stake in four of the companies that received the jumbo “peacekeeping” contracts. The companies involved in the scandalous contracts are HIS Nigeria, Nurit International, Yommy Logistics, Mass International, Arsenal International and M-2 International, were reportedly involved in the scandalous contract.

Yar’Adua’s core loyalists from the office of the National Security Agency confronted Dambazau with the petition, which had been submitted to the EFCC and copied to the NSA last Monday. “The team basically blackmailed Dambazau with their knowledge of the peacekeeping contracts,” said a source. Dambazau, a Lieutenant General in the Nigerian Army, reportedly objected to earlier calls to take over power and fought back initially. But he soon gave in and started taking orders from Yar’Adua’s ADC, Mustapha Onoedieva, an army infantry colonel, to deploy troops without question. We have determined that, in addition to Goodluck Jonathan, neither the Director General of State Security Services nor the Inspector-General of Police knew what was going on.

Wether this story is true or not this part of it seems entirely logical "Yar’Adua’s core loyalists from the office of the National Security Agency confronted Dambazau with the petition". The current NSA will do anything to destroy Jonathan.

It is therefore only a cowardly acting President that will fail to sack a National Security Advisor who is actively planning to bring his Presidency to a halt. With official powers , Jonathan's enemies will remain injurious to his acting Presidency.  I actually think both Yar Adua and Jonathan should step aside and let David Mark be interim President pending a general election because we can see that under comatose Yar Adua and indecisive Jonathan Nigeria continues to drift dangerously with a ridiculous and dangerous power game that may have taken on a dangerous direction if it is true that the Chief of Army staff has acted so partisanly despite numerous announcement to the effect that the Nigerian Army will stay out of this power tussle.

I am in support of the fact that if Goodluck does not want to run Nigeria, let him resign for David Mark. Lets at least have someone we can hold responsible for our failures.

One of two theories or both may be influencing Dambazua in his latest actions. 1. Dambazua is a Katsina man 2. Sarki Mukhtar has succeeded in blackmailing him into doing his wish.

If Jonathan can not at least sack Sarki Mukhtar then he is not ready to lead.

Its been long I started calling for the sack of Sarki Mukhtar even before his role came to the fore. The simple reason is, A President can put up with a disloyal VP or Minister. But if you have a disloyal NSA then you are simply in trouble and every further day you last in office is a lucky day.
This latest statement by Adeniyi does not mean much to me. If Jonathan does not want to run Nigeria let him step down and go home for David Mark.

Power intoxicates but absolute power intoxicates absolutely! Acting president jonathan is still in the league of soft drinks but he needs to move fast to the level of beer, sepe, ogogoro, sapele water, schnapps e.t.c lest his indecision become his downfall. However i want to believe hes not weak but trying to restrategise lest his fate become like that of the tortoise and elephant where booby trap was set for the elephant though he was assured a kings throne by the tortoise and other kingmakers. Unfortunately yardua was flown into the country the same day to counter whatever move jonathan would have made at the FEC meeting, an act that alter jonathans plan but he needs to damn turai & co. and take control now. Hes our hope cos governors, ministers and even Nass may not be trusted to impeach yaradua cos of their antecedents and penchant for ghana must go bags!

I heard from a reliable source (an SSS official) that there was actually a coup in Abuja on Tuesday night/wednesday morning but it was foiled by Paul Dike and some top southern military officers.

Some Katsina military boys were said to have been deployed to Aso rock to take over. They were in charge of Aso rock for some hours before the southern military boys threatened to split the military along ethnic lines.

again we have to thank OBJ for at least making our military balanced and proffesional

i have always liked paul dike and the other southern generals

one thing though is what role does the minister of defence play in all this?
Godwin abbe is from the Niger Delta,i wonder how he is taking this development

This is why we must revisit the problems in the past so as to chart a better course for this ship called Nigeria lest it drifts away completely.

Ojukwu maintained that allowing Gowon to become the CinC would be a bad idea considering the fact that he was junior in rank to other people including Brigadier General Ogundipe whom Ojukwu maintained should be the CinC so as to protect the professionalism in the military.

Today a Col is giving a General orders and he is obeying.

Even Sgt Doe became a president at such a low rank.

Maybe be need to start addressing issues without the usual ethnic and tribal colorations so as to understand that fairness, justice, equity are all good for everyone irrespective of race, gender or religion.

The Nigerian Army has warned politicians and activists who thrive on spreading false alarm to leave the Army out of their game plan.

In a press statement signed by the Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Chris Olukolade, the Nigerian army says it remains committed to supporting the practice of democracy, rule of law and submission to constitutional authorities in Nigeria, and would not wish to be dragged into unnecessary controversy meant to cause confusion in the country.

The statement adds that the attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to the statement issued by the Lagos State chapter of the Action Congress (AC) condemning a statement said to be credited to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Abdulrahman Dambazau who was alleged to have said “he is only loyal to President Yar’Adua and no one else”.

Read statement here

The Nigerian Army stated emphatically that the claims in that statement from AC are completely unfortunate as they are meant to put words in the mouth of the Army Chief.

The statement further adds that the Army would like to reassure Nigerians that it has not shifted from its commitment to the tenets of democracy and absolute loyalty to constituted civil authorities as consistently emphasized and demonstrated by the chief of army staff

Brigadier General Olukolade says the call and warning coming from political activists is indeed absolutely unnecessary as no coup or security breach (as they called it) is being contemplated by the Nigerian army.

yar'adua's intentions for nigeria were never pure and that is why he appointed his kinsman as COAS

obasanjo as president never appointed a yoruba man let alone ogun state man CDS or CAOS

Beyound giving press statements, Danbauzzau should tell Nigerians why he did not inform the acting presidents his acting commander in chief before chossing to deploy troops. On whos orders did he act?

All these are all wrong and that was the point Ojukwu was making that it will not augur well for the military to allow Gowon to become the head of state when there was Brigadier General Ogundipe whom Ojukwu stated should take over in the absence of Ironsi who used to be the most senior army officer.

Not listening to that advice led to the scenario you painted where a major would be dealing with a general!
