That very day after school, I went over to Maysons hostel to cchill. I was so hungry and famished.to the extent that I could feel the movement of worm in my tommy.
''Mayson how far, if you no organize something sharp sharp, I fit die for here o'' I said as I laid stomach flat on the bed.
''No be for here you go die o, you better dey go your hostel'' he responded.
''how far na, enter kitchen na'' I persuaded.
I was dead broke actually. I had no money on me at that period, and this was probably due to school related activities, if you know what I mean.
''Temy, na your belle make that noise now now'' Mayson asked with a wide grin on his face.
''Nooo, na my phone dey say low battery. idiot'' I responded without a smile on my face.
''wetin you wan chop?'' he asked.
''um, let's cook rice and stew'' I said, already holding my belly with my two hands.
''that one no go quick done na'' he rebuked ''and na rice I dey chop since 3 days now... Rice, rice , rice. Them use rice do me''
while we were deliberating on what to eat we heard a knock on the door. The knock was followed by a familiar voice.
''who dey?.. Mayson Mayson, who dey house?'' the familiar voice inquired.
''Temy, no be Thompson be that?'' Mayson quietly asked looking at me with fear in his eyes.
''Make I go check'' I replied.
''you don high?. You no even know if he carry soldier come. Temy you no dey fear o'' Mayson said, shaking already like someone who had taken his bathe with cold water.
''chai! No be lie wetin we go con do'' I said, looking around for where to hide.
''why I come Mayson house'' I wondered regretfully. '' I for just stay my house. See me see gobe''.
''Mayson, Mayson... Who dey house'' Thompson inquired this time around with a loud knock on the door.
''Jesus! I don die o'' I said, with tears almost rolling out of my eyes. The saying that the fear sojo is the beginning of wisdom was practically no joke.
''Temy.. I dey go toilet'' Mayson said already fidgeting.
''you wan go piss?''
''noo. I wan go read idiot. Na me you want make sojo drill me abi?'' he said as he ran into the rest room.
I stood in the middle of Maysons room, looking around for were to hide. Mayson room was just a self contain, quiet similar to mine. He had just a kitchen, toilet and a wardrobe. So I felt the best place for me to hide was in the wardrobe.
I stomped into the wardrobe like a scene from ''the chronicles of Narnia'' and locked myself inside. The wardrobe was dark and filled with Maysons clean and unwashed clothes.
''chai! See how Mayson, boxers dey smell o''. I thought as I covered my nose. The stench actually filled my belly at that very instance. miraculously, I filled up already.
''wetin be that...'' I wondered as I felt something crawl on my legs. ''Jesus!!!'' I shouted as I stomped out of the wardrobe. I looked at my leg to observe if I was bitten, but thankfully I wasn't. I watched the image of a huge brown rat crawl through the wall and into Maysons Kitchen.
''Temy, na you be that?'' Thompson asked inquisitively.
''oboy! This guy done catch me o'' I tot, biting my upper lips.
''Temy, my guy how far, I dey knock since, why you no answer na''.
I was caught right handed. I felt the need to surrender. I had indeed lost the ''hiding battle''.
''how far.. You. you.. You dey alone?'' I stuttered.
''yes na, abeg open door, I don dey knock since. Where Mayson?''
''oboy! Mayson dey toilet o'' I responded.
''wait why una dey fear na?''
''we think say you carry soJo come o''.
I went straight to the door and opened it, Thompson to come in. The outlook of Thompson sent cold chill running down my spine. The once fresh boy, was turned into something else.
''Mehn, does guys finish you o. Chai! See your face.'' I remarked while observing Thompsons body. ''Mayson how far show'' I shouted from outside. ''everywhere good. The coast dey clear''.
''you sure?'' he asked from inside.
''guy come out''
''no ambush me o''
''guy, if sojo wan raid this house, in 1 minute you for done dey outside dey do frog jump'' I tried to explain, with a smile on my face.
''no be lie''
''how far I need Igbo'' Thompson said as he entered into the room.
''you never still learn lesson abi'' Mayson said.
''guy forget matter. For this my condition so. I gast blaze o, so I fit dey well''
''that one go be later things. Temy how far you no wan chop?. Make we go run one or two na'' Mayson asked, looking towards my direction.
''mehn, my belle be don full o'' I replied.
''how manage?'' he asked.
''you no go understand'' how far where smart?'' I asked.
''he dey house'' Thompson responded.
