Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom this afternoon at IBB square, Makurdi announced the release of N100,000,000 to enable 20,000 youths and women of the state to begin life as entrepreneurs.

Under this arrangement, the youths who completed training in various agro and allied industrial skills will get N5,000 each to start-up their businesses.

Governor Ortom said he has approved the funds under a micro credit facility but at zero interest rate for the beneficiaries and assured them if his continued support.

The training was organized by the Benue State Government in collaboration with Centre for Youths and Women Skills Acquisition (CYWSA).

Recall that a few weeks ago, reports that Governor Ortom allegedly purchased hundreds of wheelbarrows for distribution as youth empowerment went viral on social media.

I don't even know whether to laugh or cry. Seems ridiculous to me. For him mind hin don do better tin. Why split #100,000,000 in 20,000 places when that amount can start a solid investment where the youths can work and sustain themselves in the long term.

I am disappointed at most of the posters above. 5K can do a lot. With 5K, omenkalives can buy enough data for his BMC job, which fetches him not less than 250k monthly. Afterall we are living in the digital/computer age. .

Can't Ortom establish a large mechanized, irrigated farm or any productive small scale cottage industry for the youth with 100m? Make them partner with government, give them technical support and guide them to excel. He should visit Akwa Ibom. Even Osun has been assisting young farmers.

He should consider starting a cattle ranch even if on a small scale to reduce the menace of Fulani herdsmen in his state. It will provide a lot of jobs for his people. Beef, leather and milk production are possible industries to be derived from this. This guy needs to think deep or get sensible advisers. Benue seems jinxed.
