I think reading for the purpose of examination shouldn't be there . The examination we are talking about in this context .. u and I both know it's testing retention over real-life application. If I don't remember as it's in the check list/marking scheme that automatically sponsors a cross and that fail makes impart on the certificate telling that this individual had an F, a P , a D , a C.. what if I got better understanding now ? School can't measure that. I hear some lectures talk about "la cram, la pour, la pass ,la forget" method as a bad one but ask a professor in chemistry now if he could remember well the microbiology he did in his pre degree or A'levels days.. it would definitely be a NO. . I want you guys to know that school-examination measures a small part of learning process .. the classroom learning is even one of the Least effective method of learning and yet millions of us still don't get it. .. I was a whiz kid in sec. School and I could remember that a friend even in ss3 couldn't name correctly compound's in chemistry. Me self that knew all of that . How has it helped me now. .. And going to the university same thing got guys that didn't understand some courses not because they don't want to they just find it tough to grab. Will you tell such person that knows that the relevance of this particular course exam in his/her life is just for this exam and the impact remains in the certificate obtained.. will you tell such person to be concerned about understanding it or just focus on passing it whichever way ... Tell me how Pythagoras theorem has benefitted you now that you are working in the Bank. Tell me how that borrowed course you did is now making way for you. Tell me how calculus has helped you.. At the end of the day even NYsC knows that all of those things you learnt is shit .. then they say "unleashing potential" " community development service" "you're born entrepreneur" "build your gift" they know that this stuff are actually what happens and that is real life and school don't teach that reality .. Except you wanna go into academics and continue the cycle of people claiming to teaching things but yet flee away from the real life application. I uphold real-life application over momentary rentention or memoirization . There are some of you that got a 2-2, 2-1, 1-1 but that stuff you claimed you learnt in school some persons are daily exposed to those things..if you give them exam to write they might fail but when it comes to what works in real life they are there... I'm a lover of knowledge I consume books like food. largely are the things that I consume but school can't measure shit.. life does. ... After your five years in the university studying computer science some guys at their project level still come to Nairaland for assistance from people who devoted their time to knowing how stuff works.. The IT industry in this country is what I believe knows what is what. You get hired because you can not some shit certificate display. And on the other end you hire other because uve seen what is needed as per what they can do.
