Sir, let me say you ate wrong here about Christian churches. There are some good men/women of God who can break that yoke through Jesus Christ. I'm not talking about the fake ones that visit your shrines for powers. I can say in all honesty that both my paternal and maternal side are suffering from these issue. We have only recorded two deaths. The last lady died with her first issue three months after her marriage. She us a very stubborn, albeit generous woman while alive. Even in death, she refused to be transported from Portharcourt down to the east for burial. Many of my married cousins who were once tormented are married and they got delivered in the church after several native medication. It's also not easy to find a good babalawo that can break it completely, as I believe that many babalawo of these days are not like their forefathers who are honest in their dealings. she is very correct now, in light of the 21st century, there has been very close correlation between the myth of ogbanje and sickle cell anemia, many medical research has been carried out, and more than 80%. holds the hypothesis to be true, there are medical journals, research ,paper and thesis written on this, enlighten yhurself , its on google.

for example it is believed that when an ogbanje digs his or her item, they stop been ogbanjes right.

This is pure rubbish,99.9% of people that were referred to as ogbanje were simply individuals suffering from sickle cell and later died,in the olden days our people didn't know what to make of it so they referred to them as ogbanje,how many ogbanje do you see since people started taking genotype test serious?.

I can see some half baked Christian shouting blood of Jesus. Pray never to have spiritual problem in life. Hey you completely misunderstood me..i was trying to tell the o.p that ogbanjes are not spiritual beings, rather they are sickle cell patients. I'm a biology student and my dad is a medical lab scientist. I was trying to let the o.p know that children whom are referred to as ogbanjes are not evil spirits, rather they are sicklers. they don't come back again after death, their parents just give birth to more sicklers hence they assume that the child has returned to haunt them. Ogbanje is a myth originated by people who know little or nothing about genotype. I'm not stigmatising them, on the contrary I'm trying to prove that they shouldn't be referred to as ogbanjes because they aren't spirits. The only mistake I made was not using quotation marks in my previous comment.
Why the insult? only ignorant people believe that ogbanjes are spirits. they are sickle cell patients and people WRONGLY refer to them as Ogbanjes. They are not supposed to be seen as evil spirits because their parents are 100% responsible for their condition. Whoever originated that myth probably had no idea of genotype.
