Obviously. I guess that guy is better than you. Can't imagine taking a vehicle to this blockheaded man and u couldn't detect a simple fault. All u wanted was just to Change a whole engine. Looking for the easiest way out. The same issue you said couldn't be fixed was fixed for less than 50k and there you were clamouring for a change of engine. Guy step up your game.
And thus you had to bring up this simingly minor ish online? Wheres your maturity?
The reasons he may had advice you to replace the engine, did you ask for him to explain in more detailed way?

From the pictures, this looks like what the car went through:
1) Somersault
2) Multiple impact

Effect on car
1) Lots of broken lights
2) Several airbags deployed
3) Broken windows
4) Torn rubber seals
5) Bent camber or chassis

this is work being done:
1) 2 of 4 doors replacement.
2) Every unit of the body panel beating.
3) Passenger running board replacement.
4) Several welded joints where there should be single frame.
5) Every light replacement.
6) Suspension parts replacement.

After the repair
1) SRS/ Airbag system would be useless
2) Vehicle aerodynamics will be off balance
3) Electrical system would be compromised.
4) Suspension would lack balance.

Sadly this car will be sold as "NEAT, DIRECT, TOKUNBOH LESS THAN 100K Miles 2009 Highlander" meanwhile it's just a salvaged carcass in the country of origin.

No doubt the technician is good, but the vehicle is far gone and can never be near normal operating conditions because there will be
1) Several rusts- weld points
2) Tampered electrical system
3) Leakages
4) Unexplainable irregularities while driving, amongst other things.

All the lists are inexhaustive...

Baba we dey hail you from here

Abeg make we add our own

Accident Reported
Involving Left & Rear Impact
Collision Damage Reported
All Airbags Deployed
Vehicle Ran off the road
Vehicle Hit an animal
Total Loss
Sold at Junk yard

Next time when you have an issue where you require a technician to cool down and detect and fix your car, then avoid financially well establised technicians(at least I'm certain of here in naija).

Most of them already have a long list of clients(fans), who are lining up to pay them large for more routine fixes and it's unlikely they'll now be interested in tying down their time and energy on your more tasking issue for less pay even. You'll most likely hear the easiest solution to the mech(ie, change engine or geearbox) as opposed to solutions that might favor you the customer(ie detect and fix issue)

Be smart bro, tnx

It might not even be that. Next time he should ask why. Fixing the engine might just be a temporary solution and a good technician will always consider the best solution and long lasting one for u, which is change now before it causes u more problem later... We still don't get it here that, most time, u spend more money repairing than just changing and have peace of mind

Have you ever heard of technicians in Naija fixing engine after some months, it how's back to its former defective state? Rather than fix an engine and waste money and time yet it goes back to square 1, its better to replace the engine and have peace of mind.

Same thing occurs when you have low compressions, and other anomaly with an engine. Or can the client waste over 700k to buy OEM Rings and other items from abroad and then rebuild an engine which costs 4-500k?

Lets assume, there's really a situation on ground warranting this argument now, so do you know the state of that engine you're going to buy too. Cos I'm certain yours not importing it yourself, you're buying from my brothers at ladipo

The Nigga didn't say his engine was bad, he pointed out the inability to get the fault with his car detected, instead a shortcut solution to change engine was proferred

That's exactly why I had to advice him on where to look next time, being in this car biz I can confidently say this again, if you have a nagging issue with your ride and you need someone to calm down and detect the issue for you, then avoid celebrity mechanics, they almost always look for easy way out for themselves cos they don't have to stress to get clients anymore

I've experienced this time and time again to be sure of what I'm saying, and even at times when I haven't learnt the lesson and went ahead with the engine change, problem will still persist, that's when I'll now have to get someone to cool down and trace the issue, which in one case was just a wrongly fixed coil(two coils wrongly interchanged with each other) and I've already bought engine.

Stop the asslicking pls, is he God and above mistakes, so he's omnipotent and knows it all Abi.

Whoever he is, he has so many unsatisfied customers as so do every biz man on earth, so you don't ask people to keep quiet when it goes bad and sing praises when it goes well

Mind you, if you read through my post, I never went personal or mentioned any ones name, so I wonder why you assumed that your mini-God is the only "financially well established" or "celebrity mechanic" in Nigeria, cos that's the phrase I used last time I checked

Have I ever told you I sell perfect cars? Na my papa build Am or na me dey Inside the engine? So you don't know by now that even a car that just came out from production line can have deficiencies?

Do you have to warn my clients to be extra vigilant when buying from me? Don't I already ask them to do that? Don't you see this line in my ads : "Vehicle must be physically inspected and verified before any form of payment", or what do you suppose it means.

And to be frank with you, my mission on NL for now is just to sell cars and not to form Mr knowledge on cars so I really don't care if you feel I know anything about cars or not, so long as you're buying and I know nothing, no p

What's the vehicle model and year of production?
What's engine type and cylinder configuration?
What were the signs shown by engine?
What was scan result and diagnosis?
What was done to fix the car?
For how long has the car been in use after the repair?
