I totally disagree. Cgpa can only define the type of job u get if u allow it. U graduate with a poor cgpa does not mean u have to stop there and drown in shame and regret. Go for a PGD course and advance to oda higher qualification like MSc (which is now the new BSc in nigeria). If money no they for dat, den u can go for oda cheaper certificate programs just to help pad and boost ur cv.
But if are too ashamed, den go for an entrepreneural course and become ur own boss.

I graduated with a 3rd class, but i earn N***,*** monthly. No connection, i just improved my skills & backed it up with prayer.

this concept is only applicable in developing countries like Nigeria. In developed countries in the west there are lots of opportunities out there and the world is changing in a way that knowledge with become a free good like air. With the advent of ICT and modern technology some degrees will be obsolete in the future.

I agree with you OP. As more and more people graduate and work gets more scarce, those with poor graduates tend to be overlooked in employment.
But that's for private companies. Government establishments take 3rd class graduates.
Infact, a course mate of mine was very lucky. A nupe guy from Niger State. He had 3rd class. This guy served in CBN Abuja. Bought car just after service. And got job at FCDA immediately after service. while me that had 2nd class upper, it took me 2 whole years of joblessness and under-employment before landing my own plum job.

The OP is more focused on having good grades for career.

Do you know that most business owners are people with lower grades in school? While those with 2.1 are there queueing up for years for jobs that are not available?

And who says those with lower grades can become PhD holder? Have you heard bout premaster, PGD, PGDE.

Having a low grade doesn't mean it's a straight jacket for failure in life.

My own post doesn't encourage misplacement of priorities while in school anyway.

Medicine, Education, Engineering are professional courses, am not sure that English, Arabic, Sociology, mathematics and even computer Studies are professional courses.

Not in professional course like medicine&surgery.

with poor grades. However, social vices such as gambling,
drunkenness, and others I choose not to mention will
appeal to you. Anything just to dampen the
disappointment of wasted years. However, it all ends in
more disappointment for those not willing to get it right the
right way.


4. Battered esteem: poor grades will batter your esteem.
You will always avoid public discussions that will warrant
a mention or display of your grade status either by you or
others. Can you comfortably put your pass degree
qualification on a CV? Never!

Deflated ego, inferiority, and other similar words will
describe your situation.
Only a few (mentally strong) will refuse to be downcast
and laid-back by letting grades get in their way to
achieving success. The greater majority wallows in regret
for years.


5. Delays in career progression: if you graduate with a
third class, you'll need a PGD to move forward. If it's a
pass, you're probably stuck/grounded. In the academics,
grades are prioritised, and it'll remain so for a long time.

I disagree with that point 'settle for less' I forcefully canceled that mindset of searching for a job after my NYSC immediately I discovered I graduated with 3rd class, it's 4 years after I finished my youth service, I've never submitted any CV neither attend any interview, instead I'm employing, and I always thank God for helping me to make such decision, I can now boldly say this cos I'm doing good and have my own business which I earns nothing less than 300k monthly, my poor grade helped me to wake that real man in me, thou it's a matter of choice and determination, if not for my poor grade I might be in a private company with my colleagues struggling in a rat race, don't get it twisted, it's very good and lovely to graduate with a wonderful grade, but every member of a class can never become First, thats why we always have Good, Better, Best any position you find your self, lean to make good out of it, the best student in my set then is currently working in a bank where he earns 70k per month, while the guy we always see as the most useless student with his pass grade is now staff at NYSC headquarter, now, we all contact him for friends and family NYSC posting, failure in academics doesn't mean failure in life...

G.E doesnt need ur 3.5 cgpa sef , they need graduates in the top 75 % of ur class that is from 3.75 cgpa

It depends on the engineering. I studied marine engineering and in less than a month I have graduated some of my mates with third class and pass have gotten offers.

2 things that can happen to you.
1.You can become a Nigerian senator just like Dino Malaye
2. You can also become a president because our vegetable possess no certificate.
