Oga op, ur write-up is good but not in context with naija. I know of hood guys that graduated with excellent grades, I mean they taught their fellow students during their school days, but right now its over 6-7 years of graduation they are still eating mama-thank-u. Meanwhile those they taught are now living big.

When a Degree is not who you are.

Gani Fawehinmi was the best legal mind of his time in Africa but he was not even the best in the University days, truthfully, he had ordinary pass in his Law degree, not even a third class degree. He could be classified as "let my people go" in those days.

After Gani left the University and passed his Law school , there was nothing ordinary again in his life, he was the best in everything he touched. He wrote lots legal books and journals in Nigeria. He visited Courts more than those who made First class in the same school with him or those who became SAN before him.

Gani's presence in any court was a big news to the Press and the nation, he was delightful and reassuring to watch, he spoke the language of his profession like an angel and every judge knew him as a man of integrity.

Gani was the most honorable lawyer Nigeria ever produced, to most Nigerians particularly the poor and middle class,he was their hope, and epitome of graceful expectations of how to prosecute cases, he made legal profession honorable.

Gani's most memorable case to the Oracle was against Rotimi Williams over integrity. He made a mockery of the man Nigeria called *Rotimi the Law* the Chairman of the 1979 Constitution drafting committee of 49 wise men. It was supposed to be 50 wise men until Awolowo pulled out of the committee.

Why?

The first appointment given to Rotimi William as Attorney General of Western Region was by Awolowo as Premier. It was the mistake of the Head of State Gen Muritala Mohammed to think Awolowo could serve under Rotimi unfortunately, he never consulted Awolowo before the announcement on the radio.

Rotimi Williams had sued Gani over his integrity and like Shylock he wanted a pound of flesh, the flesh that will show the nation Rotimi was the law. He also wanted an open apology in the court with the Press and new radicals of media like Dan Agbese, Dele Giwa, Mohamed and Ogunsanya around. He got more than what he bargained for.

When Gani stood up, the poor and middle class stood up with him, if Gani had failed lots of his fans would have cried openly in the Court but he turned things around. He took few steps towards the Judge and demanded to put Rotimi the Law on the witness stand for cross examination.

No one had ever done that in the history of Nigeria, probably in Africa. Rotimi was not a short man either probably around 6.2 ft, tall and huge with sharp penetrating eyes, broad shoulders, his presence took away the oxygen in the room, he was the attention in any Court.he was indeed the Giant of legal profession.

Rotimi wore his robe like a rag and if the event could be biblically assessed it was like David standing next to Goliath. Rotimi had everything his profession could offer, fame, money and power, Judges bowed before him and who would not? He wrote the law of the land.if not why would he be called* Rotimi the law*

To the surprise of the nation, the presiding Judge granted the request of Gani to have the man that was greater than life on the cross-examination box. Gani had a mischievous smile on his thin lips, he knew he had Rotimi by the balls, he was going to tear down the wall to show Nigerians how coleric his adversary was.

The hate was glaring, we knew the occasion would be historical as we were about to witness how David of Nigeria legal profession would defeat the Goliath of the learned colleagues.

Gani asked if Rotimi ever attended the popular High School in Lagos, he mentioned. Rotimi had no choice than to confirm he did. Gani told the Court to look at Rotimi Williams as a student of the High School who stole a calculator or so and was sent out for stealing if such a thief had any integrity?

Rotimi never had any integrity he said infact he lost it from his High School days and wondered what he wanted to protect as an adult. Gani Fawehinmi concluded. Rotimi was almost in tears.

The Judge called the two lawyers to his chambers and Rotimi withdrew the case. He never recovered from the bruised of the shame which the Press sensationally reviewed on the pages of the newspapers and talk radio.

From Gen Gowon to Military President Babangida, they were all scared of Gani Fawehinmi. Gani was a friend of the sick and the poor, a philanthropist with special attention to education where he noted his own weakness, he gave Nigeria his all, energies and commitment to the rule of Law and love for humanity.

If his profession were to be military, Gani would be more than a four star General. He was indeed what a Lawyer could be, to this Oracle, Gani was the Perry Mason of Nigeria law.

The Oracle says, what you make out of your University education depends on what you put into the society. Your degree is not a waste it is template for you to understand life and contribute meaningfully to the society, the man who made a difference is the one with education to improve his environments not the paper qualifications.

I beseach you my readers to have a renewal of spirit and mind in how you see life, let you goal in life be guided with your contribution to your your society and never looked down on anyone who came out of the University with ordinary pass. He could be the one to make a difference.

so what course do you think will earn you standard employment with a decent income on a low grades?
.
There are so many courses where no one asks for your grades before giving you any employment. I did marine engineering and it's a field where no one gives a shit about what you graduated with. Once you get your license no one cares. We even have chief engineers and captains who don't even have degrees but they have sailed long enough to acquire licenses. The only downside to a bad grade is you won't be able to do a masters degree or get into a top MBA program easily. It doesn't mean it's impossible but you will need to proof yourself.

If grades are to be gotten effortlessly, nobody will go for third class and pass. Grades measures the level of knowledge and commitment in ones' field of study. Even the pass graduates that own businesses will not want to employ graduates like themself but will got 2. 1 and 1st class. Go for the best!

As much as we all want to be the best, we can't all be the best. There will always be average people and below average people. As for getting jobs, not everyone will start as a graduate trained at shell or KPMG. You just have to start somewhere no matter how small and start building yourself. Life is all about the opportunities you can create for yourself.

Anything worth doing is worth doing well, it baffles me how some people promote mediocrity by saying grades do not matter.

Grades does matter, at least it boosts your self esteem and I can't imagine an organization that goes by grades in recruiting considering a 3rd class graduate before one with first class honours or second upper.

Imagine comparing a third class graduate of Harvard, Cambridge, Oxford or other ivy league schools with one from a Nigerian university.

I don't believe anyone should start off anything in life with a mediocre mindset, always aim for the best, and make the sky your springboard. Even when you don't achieve your set out goals, you won't be far behind.

6. You forgot to mention that it can motivate you like crazy to want to excel in life knowing you've got minimal lifelines. You won't leave any stone unturned because you feel you don't have an edge, but failure or the threat of failure is actually a better motivator than little comforts. Those who have made a mark in this world have been dubbed failures once. They failed not for lack of trying nor lazyness, but for abscence of proper motivation.

Einstein, Fawenhinmi, Abe Lincoln, Edison, Bill gates, Steve Jobs, Buhari 2BABA, etc. Either drop outs or had very poor grades in school.
Many folks are motivated by failure especially when they did everything they could to succeed to no avail. It doesn't apply to everyone though.

Your failure can make you develop other skills that propel you. Now that is proper motivation. Excel or fail in grades, ke3p pushing. You fail when you stop pushing.

I disagree with that point 'settle for less' I forcefully canceled that mindset of searching for a job after my NYSC immediately I discovered I graduated with 3rd class, it's 4 years after I finished my youth service, I've never submitted any CV neither attend any interview, instead I'm employing, and I always thank God for helping me to make such decision, I can now boldly say this cos I'm doing good and have my own business which I earns nothing less than 300k monthly, my poor grade helped me to wake that real man in me, thou it's a matter of choice and determination, if not for my poor grade I might be in a private company with my colleagues struggling in a rat race, don't get it twisted, it's very good and lovely to graduate with a wonderful grade, but every member of a class can never become First, thats why we always have Good, Better, Best any position you find your self, lean to make good out of it, the best student in my set then is currently working in a bank where he earns 70k per month, while the guy we always see as the most useless student with his pass grade is now staff at NYSC headquarter, now, we all contact him for friends and family NYSC posting, failure in academics doesn't mean failure in life...

AAU JAMB Fixed Cut-off Mark 2017

Following the scrapping out of post UTME by the federal government, the Joints Admission and Matriculation board (JAMB) had given a bench mark of 180 and above for candidates applying for Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges of Education. Hitherto, the Ambrose Alli University has follow suit in the 180 general cut of mark of JAMB.

You might ask questions like: I had 180 and above but was not still given the admission to study my desired course?

Candidates with higher scores are first considered; in admission basics, candidates with lower scores though might meet the cut off mark of 180 may likely not be admitted. In fact, it is the higher your scores, the higher the chance of being admitted.

AAU Departmental Cut-off Mark 2017

The Ambrose Alli University does not really have a specific cut off mark for courses. However, candidates who have scored a minimum of one 180 in UTME examination is eligible to apply for admission into any of their choice courses.

Due to the high number of students wishing to study in the Ambrose Alli University, the admission processes is competitive and an admission is given based on JAMB score and O level grades.

Below are courses offered in the university as well as their cut off mark;

220 – 240 – Medicine (O’ Level result with one sitting only) and Nursing
200 – Mass Communication, Common Law, Pharmacy, Anatomy, Physiology
190 – Computer Science, English Language, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Geology, all engineering courses except Agricultural and Biosystem Engineering.
180 – All other courses
AAU Nature of Admission Screening 2017

The Ambrose Alli University holds her admission screening exercises within a week or couple of weeks and it usually comes in two phases. Students who applied to study in the school are to proceed for the pre-screening exercise when once it is being announced.

Documents required for the pre-screening exercise are: SSCE result and JAMB registration print out only.

It is often important that a candidate arrive early and locate his/her screening venue early. Candidates will be screen on the JAMB scores and their SSCE result.

AAU Cut off Mark 2017 | [All Department]

The second phase of the screening is after the admission lists might have been released. Candidates who have merited the admission will be invited for another screening exercise. Here all documents such as;

Original copies of their educational qualifications (Statements of Results/Certificates).
N/B: Cases of awaiting results will NOT be accepted.
Birth Certification/Age Declaration.
A letter of good conduct from your Village Head or a responsible member of your
community/or civil servant not below Grade Level 10 or equivalent in the private sector.
Certificate of Local Government of origin; and this notification of admission status
slip
