The most comprehensive note taking systems cannot be effective without your attention. Your part as a student is to have attention.

One of the most requirements, let’s say the most required is alertness. You must be at alert to take clear, purposeful notes.

You cannot just flow with the norm, “writing everything down”

Why is that? It is certain you’ve got that question in mind.

A lot of the information given by your lecturer during the course of the lecture will actually be useless to you.

If they are useless, will you learn anything new?

That’s why you can’t accept the norm of writing everything down.

Is it even possible to write everything down during a lecture?

Even if you are a fast writer, it is simply not possible.

There might be exceptions though. If you have witnessed such or you are ‘that fast writer’, do share with us using the comment box
Alert enough?


Next, you need to write or jot down the specific relevant points.

Don’t forget you need to alert enough to achieve this

This is going to be in quotes because it might not be able to meet up with your course lecture one-on-one to explain further.

If you’ve got issues in determining the precise relevant points for a particular lecture or topic, meeting up with your course lecturer immediately after the class is advised.
If that doesn’t work out, meet up with students in levels above yours to help you with that.

This means, during the class, you will have to go with the norms – Write down everything
