Finally my ban has been lifted. I don't even know my offence o...lolz.
Cbella thanks for your help.
My sweethearts, thanks for standing by me through thick and thin. This plane took off in May and it has landed safely in October. I want y'all to know that I really love you. You've been really wonderful to me even if I've never met anyone of you before.
I can't begin to mention all the names that mean everything to me but I can assure you all that you have a special place in my heart.
I'm sorry for all the days of little or no updates. If I replied harshly, forgive me for that too.
I've read the comments, all of them. Almost all are not happy with the way things ended and I sincerely apologise. That's just how this one is supposed to turn out.
Now, I also want to address a question I saw. Someone asked how the title is related to the story.
I tried to point out that in almost everybody in the world and in the book, there's something really good on the inside. These good natures are the diamonds that are hidden. Take Mille for instance, her dad once thought she was always the source of problem in his house because firstly, she had dyslexia. Secondly, she was known to keep things to herself and lastly, she didn't pick a call that would have saved her mother's life but we found out that she had a heart of gold.
Moving on to Jathniel, he was seen as the black sheep in his family because of how his first marriage turned out but as events unfolded, we were able to see that he was one of the most caring men in the book. He took care of his mother and niece while Elliot was running helter-skelter. He also took good care of Mille before they started dating until the day of his death.
Even Elliot who acted the bad guy most times had some good in him. He risked his life to help some of the innocent girls escape and he ended up paying for that with his brother's life.
If you look closely at most of the characters, they have priceless hearts of diamond. In some it was hidden while in few like Aunt Liz and Uncle Liam, it was very obvioud from day one.
I hope I have related the title with the characters well and I hope Hidden Diamonds has left a lesson for each and everyone of us.
Finally, I want you all to know that writing the death of Niel was the hardest part of this story. I shed tears most times as I wrote and till now, I'm not able to sleep very well. It's harder for me than it is for you. I hope I get the grace to detach from my characters.
Even if I never write again, just know that I love and appreciate each and every one of you, even the ghost readers. God bless you all for me.
P.S. I didn't say I'll never write again o, I just said "even if I never write again".
Once again, EvaJael loves you all. Thank you so much.

EvaJael:
Jamille
Aunt Charis and I decided not to keep him for long. We agreed he should be buried within a week. The only thing he ever wanted to be large was our wedding which did not take place. Elliot kept himself out of any burial plans and I was glad he did. I couldn’t bear to see Niel’s replica planning his burial.
My family had been so supportive. They covered most of the expenses even when aunt Charis and Elliot protested. As much as I wished the days would slow down, they didn’t. Being at home was almost the same thing as being in the hospital. They did everything for me and watched me constantly as if I was going to run away.
To ease their worry, I kept my tears inside when they were watching and cried each time they stepped out or fell asleep. I couldn’t sleep on my own except I was sedated. My body and mind were weary. I was barely holding on to life.
The day of the burial arrived. I wore an ankle length black lace gown with black shoes. There was no use for any jewellery. Rachel wrapped my hair with a black velvet turban. I had asked her to buy a black veil for me because my face looked horrible but she couldn’t get one for me.I had already burnt the one I used for mum’s burial so I settled for sunshades. I was dressed almost the same way I was dressed at my mum’s burial about five years ago. Jason took me to Niel’s place first so we could go with Aunt Charis, Gloria and Elliot. From there, we met up with the ambulance that would carry Niel’s body. We rode in front of them to the church.
I expected a small crowd but what I saw shook me and caused more tears to fall. Niel was a kind hearted man and he was loved by many. The lying in state was done outside the church building, I was the last to go and see him. He lay there in a nut-brown coffee dressed in his royal blue wedding suit just as I requested. I stood there for no less than five minutes before I moved and his body was taken inside the church for the burial service to commence.
We were seated at the very front of the church, just before the coffin. I could tell Pastor Don was having it rough too as he preached the burial sermon. He was preaching the burial service of his nephew when he should have been asking him how he was enjoying his marriage. I didn’t pay attention to the sermon at all. It was a short service. After the service, I went straight to the car. I couldn’t bear the sympathetic glances that were thrown my way. As I passed, I heard people whispering “That’s the girl he wanted to marry.”, “I pity her.”, “She’s so young” and so forth. We moved to Niel’s house (or should I say, his parents’ house). His mum requested that he should be buried there.
I walked behind the coffin bearers. As I caught sight of the freshly dug grave, I burst into tears.
“Please put him down for a while.” I requested.
They looked at me as if I was crazy. “Please.” I pleaded.
Aunt Charis was on the ground, crying her heart out. Jason held Gloria in place as she was weeping too. Elliot didn’t move a muscle. He just stared at the coffin. The men finally kept the coffin down. I asked them to open it. They turned to Pastor Don and he nodded his approval.
I knelt before the coffin and began speaking to Niel.
“My love. I don’t know why you had to leave me this way but I promised myself I would do this before you’ll be returned to mother earth. I’ve always told you I love you but I haven’t had the chance to show the whole world, so, right now I am screaming to the world that I love you. I love Jathniel with all my heart. Those of you that are here, tell it to those who aren’t here that Jamille loves Jathniel and she will love always love him till the day she takes her final breath.” I yelled, I paused for a minute before continuing quietly “I know you’re hearing me, Niel even though the whole world thinks I’m crazy. I know you’ll wait for me on the other side and I can’t wait to be reunited with you. I love you Niel and I know you know it.”
I broke down in tears. I watched as they covered the coffin again and proceeded to put him inside the grave. I knelt where I was till the last grain of sand covered the grave. Jason tried to lift me but he left me when I almost scratched his eyes out. The clouds soon turned gray and rain descended without warning. I moved closer to the grave and squeezed the muddy earth between my fingers. Aunt Liz and the rest begged me to leave the rain but I wouldn’t budge. After they must have gotten tired of pleading, strong hands carried me away despite my kicking and screaming. I was bundled into the car and taken home. I yelled at everyone inside the car till we got home but they didn’t reply me even a word.
I fell sick that night. My body was heating up seriously and my head threatened to split in two. Once again, I landed in the hospital. Slipping in and out of consciousness. Many times I saw Niel calling out to me, telling me to come over but some supreme power always pulled me back just when my hand was a few centimeters from his. Slowly, my visions of him became less and I was becoming aware of my surroundings once again. I saw him one last time before I started recovering but this time was different. He wasn’t pulling me to him, instead he wanted me to go back. He told me I still had things to do. I didn’t want to go but he made me go. “They need you more than I need you.” He said before turning his back to me. Something kept pushing me out of our meeting place and I woke up.
The pains were still there but they were reduced. I could stay awake long enough to eat and talk for a while. The ache in my heart was still as fresh as ever.
“Mummy how long has it been?” I asked mum one day.
“You’ve been like this for almost three weeks dear. The doctors are surprised that you hung on this long, they said there was no desire in you to live and that’s why you’ve been drifting slowly.”
“He’s in my heart mum.”
“Yes dear, he is. Please just let go and come back to us fully. We love you too, very much. “
“Yes Mille, we love you. We could die if something happens to you too.” Aunt Charis ended, her eyes stained with tears just like mum’s. I looked around and saw the faces of the people that loved me so much around me. I could see that all of them had hearts of diamond, some had been hidden while others were very visible from day one.
“I’m ready. I’m ready to live again. I love Niel but God loves him more and I love all of you too, even Elliot. I love you all more than you can imagine.” I said in tears. The moment was such a wonderful one. There were hugs, tight hugs going around the room and I wasn’t exempted. I felt like God was smiling down at us with Niel by his side.
It took a couple of months, almost a full year before I could get my normal self back again. My health and emotions suffered a lot during that time. Thankfully, I was able to get back on my feet again. While hunting for a job, I worked at mum’s ever growing supermarket to keep myself busy and I finally put my writing skills to good use. I had seen a lot of loss in my life so I made sure my characters didn’t have to suffer like I did.
Meanwhile, my family was taking shape too. Gloria and Pete (Kara’s cousin at Abuja) hooked up. They met during the burial and became really tight friends. From there, they became a couple. Kara didn’t pick between Eric and her doctor crush eventually. Remember Philip? Yeah, the one she hated almost more than she hated the devil himself. Their paths crossed again. He came to the family to ask for forgiveness one more time. He had indeed excelled in life since the last time we saw him. Of course you know, I have the best family in the world. Forgiveness was granted and he became almost like a part of us once again. No one was ignorant of the sparks flying between Kara and him, it was indeed a big surprise. Philip and Tristan were even closer than Niel and Tristan were when Niel was alive.
Rachel, our wonderful pharmacist was still strongly opposed to marriage. Mum was tired of talking so she let her be. As for Jason, he got a job in Lagos and relocated. He never failed to check on me everyday though. I was really happy to have him as a twin. We found out about dad’s cancer so I moved in with him to keep him company. I realized that I loved him deeply despite all the hills and valleys in our relationship. He was undergoing treatment but I knew God would heal my father. I was sure of it.
Aunt Charis moved on too. She still took care of Jane, but this time, with immense help from Elliot. Yeah, Elliot finally became a responsible father to his daughter. He told me something about the guys who killed Niel meeting their waterloo but I didn’t pay full attention to him. I didn’t care what happened to them. I had committed them into God’s hands long ago and I knew he was working. That was enough for me.
Elliot took over the company that Niel ran till his demise. He came to visit me regularly and even took me out with Jane. One evening, we went out alone without Jane and we happened to talk about Niel and Tasha.
“Tasha made me promise to get a good woman to marry just before she died.” He said.
“I haven’t noticed you searching for any woman. You’re getting old” I teased.
He smiled. “I must admit I haven’t been searching. It’s high time I look into it.”
“Yay! I’m with you. I’ll make a list of all the girls in the world.” I joked and we laughed.
“Will you be part of the list?” He asked and I raised an eyebrow.
“Of course not.” I smiled.
“Jamille, you need a husband too just like I need a wife. You’re still very young.”
“Maybe. I agree I’m still very young but finding a husband is the last thing on my mind.”
“Mille, you shouldn’t…”
“Elliot, there’s no need to lecture me. Niel was my first love and he took my heart from me at 18. I’m not saying I’ll never marry. I’m only saying it’s the last thing on my mind. Niel’s death was a huge blow and believe me, I want to give up on love but there’s this tiny voice deep inside that keeps me from giving up. If love comes again, I’ll definitely embrace it. I know it won’t be easy considering what I’ve been through but I know I was made a strong woman and a strong woman I will remain. I will never forget Niel for as long as I live but it’s time to live again. Jamille Brian is ready to live again.”

THE END
Yeah! We have finally come to the end of HIDDEN DIAMONDS. This plane took off in May and it is landing in October. Whew! The longest ride I’ve had since I started writing. I want to appreciate you all for your love and support. It’s not been easy for you too to wait for updates. Forgive me for being really slow and for all the errors. I LOVE YOU ALL SO MUCH.
