A Nigerian man on Facebook has talked about the values missing in the curriculum of Nigerian employers, how to value human being. He did this in a post in which he called out convenant university for being a serial offender.

Western Institution (email): Mr. Samuel, we will like to have a 15 minute interview with you on Skype. Can you give us a date and time between 1st and 6th of November that will be okay for you?

Me (email): I am happy with 10 am of Saturday 5th November.

Western Institution: That's great then, look forward to speaking to you.

Nigerian University (SMS sent around 6 pm Sunday): You're invited for an interview at Covenant slated for 8.30 am on Tuesday morning.

Me (phone call): Hello, I just got your message for an interview. I live in Benue, I am supposed to start preparing to be in Lagos tomorrow for an interview the next morning?

Nigerian University (indignantly): Oga is job we're talking about o.

Me: Okay, your notice is too short, I can't make it.

Friends: Oboy just do am like that, even if na night bus, just go.

Me: Nah. I am not that desperate. I want to work with people who value people. This is a major turn off. They don't even care that I need to prepare for the interview. They don't care I need to meet financial obligations as well as other things to be in Lagos. They don't care if I even made an appointment for Monday before.

See the difference between a society that values you and one that treats you like trash? I am supposed to come to your university to add value...you're not doing me a favor because you will be paying me 120k. And this is what happens when a society defines its values primarily around money - dignity is sacrificed.

PS: Covenant did this shit of a two day notice twice. I bounced the interview twice. They are a university, an institution that people are trained at, not a band of unorganized bus drivers.

Grow up man, you are not talking to your friends or relatives. something in the line of " I just got the invite and I am currently not in town, can I reschedule?" I remember my first interview at Zenith bank. The HR manager and an AGM wanted to intimidate me, telling me they only had vacancy for tellers (with a salary of 70k). 5minutes into the interview, their intercom buzzed and they were told my car was blocking the third interviewer (a GM). I was excused to go and repark and I could see the change in attitude when I got back. Apparently, I brought the same car as their GM and then the table turned. I returned and placed my LG chocolate phone on the table (their fada...they were trying to BUGA me with one cheap Nokia before). In summary, the GM 'upped' my offer and I was offered a Customer Executive role even though I resigned the first day I resumed !

My worst experience was traveling from PH to Kaduna for NAMA interview that they had already penciled those they would absorbed. I remember this with pains and regret everyday. To this day if you will not interview me in PH or by call forget about it.
Last time I was applying for DPR's openings where they asked for choice of centre I said Port Harcourt. They mentioned second choice I had to click Port Harcourt again. I had no intention of traveling out of Port Harcourt for any 'gadem' interview. Eventually I was not shortlisted. I have no regret over it. Value yourself your employer will reciprocate that.

We live in a country filled with mentally unstable over religious people... what do you expect..

The guy is right because he has a job at hand. A person in dire need of a job would have reacted differently.

I think so too and i agree on the man being unprofessional

But the recruiter shouldn't be left out on the unprofessional status stance

some companies are terrible like convenant, while some are quite nice.

Filmhouse sent me a msg at 2 pm for an interview in lekki the next day by 10 am. i called and explained that i am in asaba and there was no way i could make it.

they were like fine, i should pick a date i can come but before i could pick one, she told me since i am in asaba their CEO is coming to asaba next week, i imight as well chill and be interviewed by him in asaba for their branch opening in asaba.

Like i said, some companies have an amazing work environment and Human resource department while some are terrible

The problem a friend has is not just that he has not gotten a job, HE HAS NEVER BEEN INVITED FOR ONE. I wonder how he would have reacted to this invitation for an interview
