If we are leaving, just leave and stop throwing turd. We know things are bad. Not, except we want to make a change. Many of us are too overwhelmed to make a change, have no opportunity or not competent enough to.

Making a change is revolutionary and very complex.

I think i left Nigeria for many reasons. I wanted to see the world, have light 24/7, see how Oyinbos tick. Being a doctor just gave me the opportunity. Being a Nigerian, gave me the motivation.

The truth is , who doesn't want a better life? will u go to Zamfara to do residency if u get residency in UCH and will you live in Sango-Ota, if you have opportunity to living in Ikoyi.

i agree but that dosent mean they should be expecting equal pay with doctors abroad. if only you know the cost that doctors abroad pay to study nedicine then you would not even think of recieving the same pay with them after attending a cheap university here in naija.

. The implication of schooling abroad is having a better life in school, electricity ,internet, security etc.. So that shouldnt be the reason Nigerian doctors are less paid. You know how much I spent on all my USMLE steps alone? 7mills

They work harder than doctors abroad, and are more exposed to risks . Worse still, a doctors hazard allowance monthly is 5k compared to a Nigerian lecturer's hazard allowance which is 30k monthly.

In the US a doctor is not expected to work more than 80hours a week, in Nigeria, 100hrs in child's play..

I'm not arguing with you guys anymore. I ported 2 months ago and I'm on $3k per month minus taxes and accommodation. Enjoy your stinking country.

Simple scenario...I trained in the US and came back in 2007. I didn't stay up to a year and left. I was invited back home in January 2017 to help develop my specialty. On Wednesday I went to the consulting room I used in 2007 and there has been no single change; no improvement in infrastructure in 10 years.

The conditions of service are appalling. Most doctors can't even afford a decent vacation, work multiple jobs to stay afloat. Terribly designed and humid wards. No seperate ward for TB patients, I usually see DM patients and TB patients right next to each other. Inadequate diagnostic equipment. Inadequate protective equipment.

I have received tons of request from not just interns and residents to help them get out of here but also consultants as well and I have overseen the exit of 11 bright doctors.

The Nigerian doctor is a hero, risking his life every day to function in a dysfunctional system. I don't blame him or her. The Government has not done enough for the health sector.

One major problem of Nigerians is that we choose to do nothing. Next election, same old recycled politicians, same faces, and we still carry ourselves to the ballot boxes to cast our votes. We do this hoping that this time, it will be better, this time the person will effect change. We do this over and over again and it failed us over and over again. A government that champagned to ban government officials seeking medical care abroad, yet the leader in our very own eyes, went to the UK to treat an ear infection. Nigerians could have carried a banner when he was on his way or during his return at the airport, with message on the banner stating "hypocrisy" "lies" and "deciet". But we do nothing. And they know we'll do nothing which is why they always get away with their failed promises.

The youths are the hard hit. Cause they come to a point in their life when they realise that all the school runs and candle burning was for nothing. We can't support our aging parents who have given so much to raise us, because their are no jobs for us. The hopelessness makes the youth resort to a life of crime as their is nothing else to do to make ends meet. I call on every Nigerian youth who wants a better future for their kids to join NYRP - NIGERIAN YOUTH POLITICAL REVOLUTION MOVEMENT. Lets get our young vibrant minds into Nigerian Politics and choose leaders who have Nigeria at heart. Enough of old recycled politicians who have proved that they have nothing to offer. Their failure is understandable because times have changed.

I know 5 nurses working at Portharcourt Teaching hospital that are presently making arrangement to port out of this country. One told me she almost wept when her class mate in school told her what she earns as a nurse in Canada. I pity any health worker or student planning to practice here. Dublin is better in pay than Jordan. I have a cousin that graduated from Economics Unizik, found herself in the USA ,went back to school there and did nursing. She is fully made now and puts smiles on her family's face.Let your sister start making plans in her final year. This issue of porting may encourage our herbalists to develop the original African medicine. I know all these because I am a doctor with plans almost completed to port out soon.

Thanks...

Get lost Jor. You were trained cheaply in Nigeria yet you expect your feet to be licked because you are a doctor.

I don't know why I dislike Nigerian doctors for their greed and lack of empathy, I hope the government will look into increasing your school fees so that they can reduce you lot. You can't reap where you don't intend to sow.

Can you compare that to how much their counterparts pay abroad?

The government need to increase fees so that they can milk them before they migrate. That's the best thing here, charge higher school fees for medical students, then use the revenue to pay expatriates while the number of Nigerian trained doctors will reduce due to lack of funds and they can go to hell if they like. They are too greedy and lack empathy

Nigerian doctors are failures. Greedy lot with no empathy. Most of them run their private clinics besides working for government, they refer patients to their own clinics because of greed and wickedness. They reap where they didn't sow, even in their private clinics they won't treat patients without funds, wicked souls with no empathy for humanity

What have their associations done towards making healthcare better besides asking for increased salaries? All failures, not heroes.

every Nigerian believes his/ her problem is money, up until that money is given and the problem even worsens, they remind of me a certain ASUU who believe that quality education is directly proportional to their salaries and allowances, and yet when their demands are acceded to, it seems like the tertiary education sector becomes worse.

Don't mind them. Read the rest of the thread, it's obvious that their pay is the major reason. They act like they're the only ones being paid poorly.

I agree with you, everyone keeps asking for more money but no one comes up with solutions.

A good number of them hide under the excuse of "no equipment" but are solely after the money. These guys get cheap as fvck education in Naija, dump the helpless masses and go for higher paying rates outside the country. Even if we had equipment, many of them would still take the PLAB or whatever exam.

I recently read an article about how doctors and engineers, who brave dangers in explosion ridden Gaza, work together to 3D print basic medical equipment and they aim for much more than that.

Sure, we've got major issues with corruption and underfunding. However, their response doesn't solve the problem. It only hurts more people in the long run.
Hahahaha, so you no know the guy we you mention deh UK? Abeg, to hell with the emotional blackmail. Why don't you become a doctor and stay in Nigeria? You would understand it then when you are offered a 60k job and told to stay put in that hospital 24/7/365 when a teacher who pockets similar goes to a 8-4pm job, and have a life outside her work place, while you after having not done anything in the last 7 years of your life, are still expected to not have a life again, especially at a pittance. Abeg, lemme not just talk. . .

All the while we have been shouting and protesting, they would all jump and start have frantic orgasm while typing 'selfish Nigerian doctors'. Now that the reality is setting in, they want to resort to blackmail again.

They better stay and enjoy their minimum wage, because that abroad they will go back to class again, white men don't have trust in our medical practitioners, they will have to train you. For abroad Nigerian doctors are nurses . Only identification of medical instruments alone will fail them , because most of them will be seeing some instruments for the first. I don't even like Nigerian doctors at all, you will see in them that they went for the career because of money not because of passion to save life.

Maybe because I'm kinda new here I have not experienced that. I see people who take risks every day without the right equipment sometimes without their payment.

Everything I use I had to bring in because there was none available. When they tried to provide it was always sub standard. I could not use it.

If you have a different experience I'd be glad if you could share it with me just to get a sense of what goes on and why you see them as failures.

I have no qualms with jumping ship due to abysmal pay. However, I'm tired of the numerous dishonest stories on Twitter about why they're quitting because of equipment.

They are mainly leaving because there's an international demand for those in their profession and the pay is good.

The hate in you is too strong.. Do you know some people schooled abroad, paid in dollars and are working in Nigerian hospitals? Ukraine tops that list.So those ones do not deserve the poor pay but we who schooled here deserve it?

You talk about private doctors attending for free as if the consumables aren't bought with money.worse still, nhis has always been a problem.

Let me tell you something. The 1yr nysc was my payment to the government for their training. Now get lost.

You are wrong. Atleast in the US and UK, there is no additional training for doctors trained in Nigeria. If you're good enough you pass their hard exams, you're good enough for their system. Cheers

Are you a doctor? Don't let her comment bother you. I could have said the same thing she said, had I been as myopic. But I've seen the issue from both sides of the prism, so I know her generalization is lame! Some people tend to forget that the world is bigger than their experiences.
