Are there any religious backing?
is it even right?
why spend so much money?
Yes, it is certain everybody will die, death is sure
but is death really worth celebrating
Lately,I have been thinking if thr's really the need for it.
Why not just drop the dead 6ft underground and thats it! everybody leave for their home.
Instead of disturbing the dead with so much noise.

Left to me, there are many ceremonies that are so worthless of celebrating, celebration such as Burial, Naming Ceremony, Christmas, Birthday, babyshower, bridal shower, Bachelors eve and remembrance.

They don't make no single sense.

It’s waste of money. I cannot lose the person I’m burying and also lose my money at the same time

I believe it’s just part of the African mentality where we celebrate almost anything.
1) we buy car - we celebrate
2) build house - we celebrate
3) give birth - we celebrate
Birthday - we celebrate
It’s just our mentality

Nope...As long as you don't spend the money you don't have.
There's no need to overdo cos your trying to meet societal standards, your only fooling yourself...
In this messed up life we all came to,the happiest times are the times we're celebrating something... That's one of the few times we experience a true sense of happiness(Birthdays,New year,National days etc),so I don't see anything wrong with lavish celebrations as long as you've got enough money for it.Cut your coat according to your cloth

Death does not call for celebration, no matter how old the individual maybe before passing away.

Nah I'm indifferent but one thing I've learnt is that we're not all born the same...Everybody with their preferences, the moment you start to accept that fact, life becomes a whole lot easier and your perspective changes..Things that were meant to bother you before won't anymore cos you know that we ain't all the same.
We most have opposites for this world to be balanced...the rich and the poor, the smart ones and the dumb ones, the winners and losers, the people who like school and the ones who don't etc.

Absolutely wrong... Most of these ppl will never visit their parents in the village nor call them to know how they are faring, even when on sick bed they will never create time to visit, but they will have enough time to prepare for their burial. Same ppl will spend lavishly on ladies who never sweated for their upbringing. They will spend 10x more money organizing burials for their parents than when they were alive......

Don't forget that what goes around, comes around..... We will all get old someday

How much do you have and how much have you physically seen or touch to warrant this statement? I see hungry looking Nigerians struggling to feed yet talk, act and snap pictures like big men.
Mr man or miss woman you haven’t seen wealth yet so shut it and stop the famzy.
Hide your face!! You think it’s 2 Naira yahoo yahoo that makes you wealthy?

I think its just nonsensical, we are just soo wasteful in this part of the world. And I sometimes see some burial announcements saying stuffs like with gratitude to God for a life well spent, what the fvck does that even mean sef?
The other one that irritates is the R.I.P who many of us don't even sit down to weigh the meaning. Whoever told you the fellow is gonna rest in peace? Only God determines that, not our wishful wishes.
Anyways, as for me when I am gone, I would have all my useful organs harvested for scientific research and the rest of it cremated.
Zero ceremonies.

In this part of world,we pay so much respects to the deads..at least, its better than worshipping a dead jew or one arabian bastard that made a living by raiding caravans..

it's a stupid celebration.
if only one invested such on the person why he/she is alive, the story might have changed.

Left to me, it is not proper. I know of an old woman in where I served, this woman relied on the people around before she could eat... she was always in tattered cloth suggesting of the absence of care from any children... One man told me all the woman's children were not around but in somewhere else struggling to make living. I asked the man, should been an hustler be an excuse to take care of one's mother ?

Behold, not long this woman died, the woman was buried in a semi-elaborate ceremony. Two cows was killed, beans cake was on rampage and some other foods.

Now the question is where did the money to float such an elaborate ceremony come out.

Why not using the money to give the woman a beffiting living when she was alive instead of beffiting burial...

He get some things wey we Africans they do wey no make sense at all...
