justwise:21000/year that is 1750 euro per month. After all deductions his take home might be around 1450. It is a big money in Nigeria, one cannot survive with this in Ireland even if you live in a shared apartment. Remember your family back home will be expecting something too |

ken4jj:I totally agree with you. All Nigerians care about is acquiring wealth and not how they could make the Nigerian society better. Let me use the youths now and the sickening mentality of their, they feel that if you are not in school studying, engineering, medicine, computer science, mass comm, law...( you know my drift) then you've wasted your years in school and if you get to look why most of these undergraduates are in school it's maybe my friend is doing this lemme do this, my parents forced me, oh I stand a better chance at getting employed and earning millions a month or they just like the fanciness of the course and they're quick to make fun of their fellow undergraduates if they're in departments like social works or adult education or education. It's really baffling how these youths think and you wonder why we don't move forward. If our mentality is backwards so would our development as a nation |

ken4jj:This is the basic truth, Nigerian system is design to exploit the weak, poor, striving individual. Most big businesses don't even pay tax. The so called rich men pay near to little or nothing as taxes. If you work for them you're underplayed and no system to even help you out. I just pity low skilled workers like artisans, bricklayers, electricians etc they hardly survived based on only their profession . And this is why many of them resort to riding okada, keke napeb as second means . Nigerian system is warped, from education to health. Transportation system zero, electricity null. Everyone aim is to sabotage the system. Get rich quickly, short cut to things, store plenty monies ,build houses, live in mansion, drive latest cars all at the expense of others. I spit on Nigeria. Our forefathers had failed us, we inherited bad attitudes and system from them. As for timesup and pidgin2 ,I know its poverty that has turned your brain upside. I know two of you will be here, galivating and mastubating on this thread. |

This argument is pointless. Just a couple of remarks: Any hard working professional /highly trained/skilled person (not sure about untrained/unskilled hustlers) can succeed anywhere with time; it depends on your definition of success, what your life goals and values are. But clearly certain environments are more conducive and supportive of helping serious minded folks achieve their fullest potentials, irrespective of background and creed. Some of the professors that inspired me the most when i was a student were those who had the opportunity to train in the Western world. Their mindset, motivation, world view and how they see their students and colleagues were clearly different from their indigenous contemporaries. I had a teacher in my final year (an HOD) who was an anti-abroad crusader (introduces every lecture with a discouragement of young pple going abroad). He had the chance to travel to South Africa for a scientific conference where, according to him, he met one of his classmates, who was not as sound intellectually way back in the days. Strangely, about 1 year after my lecturer returned from South Africa, he resigned from his job were he was a senior personnel and a senior lecturer to emigrate to South Africa, where he resides till date, much to our disappointment. We never had the chance to find out what influenced his decision. There is no basis for comparison of life in Nigeria vs 'abroad' , because our priorities, values and life pursuit are as far apart as day and night. The parameters for measurement are not the same. The earth is the Lord's. Please know what you want and chose an environment that best supports it! |
