Thank you. Waiting for my approval.

quick question please, When your business name is approved, i.e. the status on the site shows approved , is it also ready for pickup. Or is there's a lag period?

Whenever your company name is approved on your portal it means that your company has been duly registered by the CAC and a RC number (Limited Company) & BN (Business Name) issued. In a day or two you will get a pickup message from your pickup state location. Then asap pick it up.

Yes very convenient.
Though that's after you've gotten the availability code, and paid the 10,000.
The site will request for a scanned copy of all:
1) Application Form (with passport photograph affixed)
2) Payment Receipts
3) Availability approval page.
4) depending on nature of business you might need to attach a proficiency certificate.

Hope that helps.

Hi rose! Good evening!!
I just registered a business name and during the course of registering I did not download any application form?.. I only downloaded the receipt and I screenshot other important documents.
Hope I have not gotten it wrong somewhere?.

Hi there,
Filling the form online is part of the process, so you can't miss it.
Once the business name is approved, I.e. after N500 payment, step 2 is to register the business name.

Once on the site, you'll be requested to enter your approval code, then To fill an online form of about 3 pages.

Once filed you'll need to download a copy from the CAC site

Login in to the services.cac site >> click registration >> click action & download form.

Then you print this form out >> Sign & affix photograph>> then upload with approval note, 2 payment receipt & proficiency certificate (if applicable) on http://docupload.cac.gov.ng

Hope that helps

THE NAME I GOT APPROVAL FOR WAS NOT APPROVED DURING AFTER I DID THE PROPER REGISTRATION, REASONS DISPLAYED ARE INCORRECT DATA FOR THE 3 QUERY DISPLAYED, SUGGESTING AGAIN THAT I REGISTER A LIMITED COMPANY? PLEASE ADVISE ME IF AM TO START THE PROCESS AGAIN OR CARRY OUT THE CORRECTION AS INDICATED, DO I HAVE A REMEDY?

I don't thiink you need a consent code to register a business name unless you are registering a name with investments, mutual funds, securities or bank. With this names included you will need authorization from relevant regulatory agencies (eg CBN, SEC etc).

I will like to also categorically say that a (promoters, proprietors, directors etc) should be mindful of their nature of business or objectives. Names like Education (NCE for Primary, B.Ed for Secondary and M.Ed for Post Secondary Schools), Advertising & Marketing will need APCON certification, Engineering or Construction will need COREN etc. There are more and others included.

Names like Marine, Sea Transport & any business on sea will need at least 25 million shares capital. Acting as trustees in a Limited will need 10 million shares, like that and so on.

The truth is that care must be the watchword when filling CAC forms, so as not to be on the queried side of the Commission.

You can feel to Whatsapp or call us on 08107804290 for more questions and inquiries.

So you want to open a business and you know nothing of how to get started, well NO WORRIES.
You do not need to find a lawyer, a chartered Accountant or an agent. All you need is an ATM Master Card and an internet connection. The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) now has an on line portal that makes life easy for all potential entrepreneurs and Businessmen in Nigeria.

To register A company the first step is to

STEP 1: Search for availability of Name - Visit http://services.cac.gov.ng/ sign up as a new customer and provide all necessary details accurately. Once you are properly signed in click on 'Name availability Search' type in two names that are creative and uncommon as your proposed business name and try to avoid cliché names. Fill the form with your best Email address and Phone number and submit the form when done. The submission of the form would costs N500 and can be paid using you master card, visa card, verve card, on line banking etc.
The name search would take one to two working days to be approved or disapproved. If disapproved try again With a different and more unique name.

STEP 2: Register the Business name - Once your name has been approved the next step is to register the business name. Log in to your account with CAC and once logged in click on 'action' and download the the letter of approval from the CAC portal, open it and take note of the approval number.
Go back to the website, Click on 'Registration' on the top left of the webpage select business name and paste the number from the approval document on the space provided click on enter. Ensure you know the nature of the business, proprietors of the business and all other relevant information accurately. NOTE: You can 'save and exit' the form at any point where you have difficulties.

* When it comes to nature of the business ensure that you type in three (3) nature of business and it is always a good idea to add General contracts so you do not need to get another business name in the future as, General contracts encompasses everything. (I made the mistake of not adding General contracts and I had to apply with an additional cost of N6000 to get it changed and it was a stressful process)

Fill the form Accurately avoid Mistakes as a Correction would cost you more money and waste your Time.
Now one important thing is When asked if you need additional copies of Certified true copy and documents, select Zero as this is applicable to only those who are registering a limited liability company.

Submit the form and Pay N10,000 for the business name using you ATM card. You would be given a form to submit to the CAC office in your selection.

STEP 3: Physical Submission - Download and print and make two photocopies of
- All receipt of payment from Remitta and CAC,
- The approval of business name document
- The form you received upon payment for business name
Take these documents with two passport Photographs, N250 stamp duty fee - to be paid into CAC Skye Bank Account (you can do this before going to the office the bank has the account number) and submit for filing with the corporate Affairs commission.

I hope this information was helpful to you. Leave a comment and tell me how it goes for you.

Ignore the mail. I got same, went to their office only to be directed to their online portal to upload the documents.
The mail is auto-generated and it seems the database administrator forgot to remove it when the process was changed.
Bottom line, go to the site I posted earlier and upload all the documents, remember to affix a passport photo to the application form.

Hope this helps

Please what are all the required documents to upload for business name registration??

On the upload site (http://docupload.cac.gov.ng:121/DocUpload/) all options at the top:
1) Availability Printout - This is your Notice of Approval PDF

2) BN Registration Form - This is the form you filled online, you should affix a passport photograph & sign, before scanning and uploading. Should be PDF.

3) Proficiency Certificate: This is optional, for instance if you are a Training company you will need to upload a certificate to prove you are qualified to train. It pretty much depends on your Business type.

4)Means of Identification: The same as you filled in the Registration form. Must be PDF

5) Payment Receipt: PDF receipt of N10,000 payment.

Hope that helps.

That's weird, the Approval note should be a PDF file. Since you can't even open it. I would recommend you redownload it. It's possible the download wasn't complete or something. Kindly redownload from the CAC portal.

I followed your guideline the incompetent CAC officials won't tell us but still got frustrated. I printed the receipts that was sent into my mail after filling the form on www.services.cac.gov.ng. Travelled to Abeokuta but was told at Skye Bank that there's nothing like Stamp duty fee. I then left for CAC office only to be told to download the registration form, attach a passport photograph to it then I should attach the receipts to it and upload it to www.new.cac.gov.ng. Why is the FG just using every known means to frustrate people? No appropriate guidelines to follow, no numbers to call, one agency with 2 websites. What a hot shithole country is this?
