This isn't about bitterness, it's straight up facts, Nigeria will remain the same as long as u people keep sugar coating our problems.

The question you should ask yourself is whether the power supply is getting better or worse to pre-2015 level

To me it is only a wicked and deceitful person that will be blind to the progress in the sector

@LordAdam, this is 2018, don't you think it's too early to begin raining insults at people while you expose your ignorance?

POWER SECTOR SPEND
Firstly, cant you hear how incoherent you sound?... You first claimed OBJ wasted $16billion, then you claimed GEJ didn't spend much on the power sector, and then you stated again that GEJ only spent money to complete existing projects. If I may ask, what existing projects did GEJ complete (if not for the numerous projects previously started by OBJ with the $16 billion)?... Can't you see how hypocritical and ridiculous you sound in your desperate attempt to demonize OBJ and sanctify GEJ?... Whilst OBJ may have mismanaged the $16 billion, the fact remains that he commenced all the NIPPs and most of the expensive heavy equipment, turbines etc. were already procured and were rotting away in the ports with the funds meant for their clearing and installation squandered/looted. GEJ like you said only picked up from where OBJ stopped.

But then, you emphatically stated that GEJ spent nothing on the power sector, but below are some reports which claims he spent over $8 billion (still to no avail exactly just like OBJ), I did not create these reports so you have no right to call me stupid.

https://www.businessdayonline.com/fg-spends-8-26bn-on-power-sector-inaugurates-nipp-olorunsogo-ogun/
https://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/08/power-sector-senate-probes-obj-yaradua-jonathan/
http://thenationonlineng.net/jonathans-dark-power/

Can you show me where I said GEJ spent nothing?

It seems you are daft? If I said he spent nothing, then what money did he spend on "completing existing power plants, boosting transmission capacity, and rural electrification."

Or is the NIPP not part of "existing power plants"? None of the pages you quoted said $8.5b. If you had said over $8b, I'd not have asked you to provide a quote.

If OBJ did most of the hard work like you claimed, why did Yar'Adua in only 2 years have to spend $5b on the same project? OBJ started the NIPP in 2004, a year after his re-election. He had already spent most of that $16b in his first tenure. It was in 2005 that the Electric Power Sector Reform Act called for the unbundling of PHCN.

And how is it that "most of the expensive heavy equipment, turbines etc. were already procured and were rotting away in the ports" for the NIPP were actually imported in 2003, one whole year before the NIPP was conceived. http://shipsandports.com.ng/nebo-takes-delivery-of-248-phcn-containers-abandoned-for-10-years/. Later if I insult you, you'll say it's uncalled for.

All OBJ did was start a very expensive project that other administrations had to complete or risked being called out for discontinuation of projects when we didn't have electricity. Yar'Adua didn't want to pay, that's why funding was halted for more than one year. If all you could find about GEJ's electricity expenses was on this same expensive, glorified NIPP project that he was compelled to finish, then it shows how bereft of common sense you are.

POWER GENERATION
You posted a link to the NESO website (https://nsong.org), but if you were half as smart or meticulous as you brag, you should have at least opened the website you supplied to verify my claims before jumping to make a fool of yourself in public and calling me names. Below is the report of peak and minimum power generation just a week to handover and on the handover day showing generation dropping to below 2000mw
www.nairaland.com/attachments/5381093_powergen_jpeg1c9f6029b22df1fe842d7c86b55cae51

Below is a news report on the week of handover to that same effect:
http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/183496-nigerias-power-generation-at-all-time-low-crashes-to-1327mw.html

So now that I have provided some evidence to back-up my claim, who do you think is actually being stupid and should shut-up between us both??

Yet in the same page you quoted, this was the first part of the article:

Power output had dropped from a recent peak of 4,500MW on April 3, to 2,800 as of March 30.

The ministry said on the eastern axis, Shell Gas, Alakiri plants were shut down.

Other affected power plants include National Integrated Power Plants (NIPPs) – Egbin, Olorunshogo 1 & 11, Omotosho 1& 11, Geregu I & 11, Ihonvor and Sapele on the western axis and Alaoji on the eastern end.

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Power, Godknows Igali, raised the alarm over the worsening power generation across the country during a meeting with Vice-President Namadi Sambo in Abuja.

Mr. Igali and the Minister of Power, Chinedu Nebo, had briefed the Vice President on the current state of the power generation, transmission and distribution in the country.

He said the ongoing strike by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) and the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas (NUPENG), which began on Tuesday, was responsible for the worsening supply.

The workers are protesting the transfer of the rights of the Oil Mining Lease (OML) 42 to two indigenous companies, saying the move would affect the fortunes of Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) and its staff.

He said “on the eastern axis Shell Gas, ALAKIRI has also been shut down. This has led to the several power plants being stranded and shutdown”.
“This includes EGBIN, OLORUNSHOGO I & 11, OMOTOSHO 1& 11, GEREGU I & 11, IHONVOR and SAPELE (NIPP) on the western axis and ALAOJI on the eastern end,” the permanent secretary said.

He said besides pipeline vandalism which has continued to have very negative impact on the power supply in the country, the ongoing strike by the labour unions in the oil and gas sector has added additional toll.

“The overall effect is that power supply which had started picking up steadily since the beginning of the week following repairs of various vandalised portions of the ELP Line and the Trans-Forcados Gas Pipelines, has fallen to all-time-unprecedented low of 1,327m was at 1.00 p.m. May22, 2015,” Mr. Igali said.

“With the strike, which has gone on for one or two days, there is a dramatic turn in the level of power supply in the country, with the level going down to the all-time low level of 1,327 megawatts (MW),” he said.

“So, if you look at it from 4,800 MW level it was until recently, there is a dramatic turn, the loss is terrible,’’ he said.

He warned that the situation could get worse if the strike continues, although he expressed the hope that the ongoing discussions between the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and, the labour unions, would end amicably.

You see how mischievous you are?

It was at a peak of 4,500MW on April 2015 and you are saying because of the strike that took it below 2,000MW in only ONE month, then it means GEJ did nothing in the power sector? See how stup*d that sounds?

And by the way peak power on First of January, 2018 is 4,685.30 MW. So are you telling me Buhari has added only 185MW in over 2 years?

Are you normal at all?

OMG! you are such a shameless human to have even considered such a pointless and embarrassing response. Any human with an iota of self respect should have just remained silent. What is the difference between $8.5bn and $8.26bn?

Off my head, I mentioned that GEJ spent $8.5 billion on the power sector. You instantly jumped on me like a ferocious lion, dismissed my statement and labeled me a 'stupid liar'. I returned after a simple google search providing evidence that the specific figure spent was $8.26 billion, only for you to come back now and say "I should have said over $8 billion". How shamelessly despicable can a human possibly be? undecided

And then you go further once again to run your fingers blabbing about how the $16 billion spent by OBJ was a total waste, but the 'over $8billion' spent by GEJ was prudently used. You even dared to mention that 248 containers of power system equipment stuck in the ports were cleared by Nebo in 2014 (several more were even cleared recently in 2017), but you still fail to acknowledge that these were part of the $16 billion sunk in by OBJ?... What sort of shameless hypocritical bigot are you? undecided

Yet in the same page you quoted, this was the first part of the article:
Of course every human with a functioning brain knows there was a reason why the power dropped to such low levels, same way there are also explainable reasons why the power drops intermittently till date. I don't remember mentioning anywhere that there wasn't a reason for the drop; only thing I mentioned was that there was a major power system collapse which saw power dropping below 2000mw at the time of handover. So what on earth are you blabbing about?.. Why don't you just shut-up and run along? angry

Once again, nowhere did I say the generation level was permanently below 2000mw, I only said the power dropped below 2000mw on the week before handover. If you do not have the most elementary English language comprehension skills, but rather choose to jump around ignorantly insulting people like an attack dog, then I'm sorry, I cant help you.

You may defend GEJ till infinity but we were alive when he ruled. Electricity was not better. He handed over of our electric asset to the most incompetent fools. For 5years the discos can not meter everybody they can not change all the moribund equipment within the system.

Yar'Adua invited a Canadian firm--CPCS Transcom Ltd--to advice on unbundling PHCN. In 2010, GEJ reinvited them to provide more advice.

In 2013, he commenced the process. Nnamdi Sambo was fully in charge of the privatization process and the BPE and all other lawfully-empowered government agencies and stakeholders were involved in the process. To the best of my knowledge, I haven't heard or read of any conceited group saying the PHCN privatization did not follow due process.

I'm not saying the process was perfect, but it beats having a redundant PHCN under whose stead no new engineer was employed in 20 years and who were the people who left $5b worth of equipment in limbo for over a decade.

And about the metering and changing of moribund equipment, you are not intelligent enough to debate why these hiccups have not been resolved. So, I'm not going to enlighten you. I've got better things to do.

But here's a Nov. 2017 article on the fact that there are no existing metering regulations -- https://www.premiumtimesng.com/business/business-news/248529-fashola-gives-nerc-november-deadline-issue-electricity-metering-regulation.html.

PHCN privatization is a work in process and isn't complete yet. Moreover, for an heavily convoluted sector like that, there were always going to be kinks that need to be ironed out. Metering and funding for the moribund projects are some of those.

I can tell you for a fact that no DISCO would take a loan at the present 22% interest rate to "change all moribund euipment" when the average profit margin is 8-10%.

When you begin to read more rather than type trash, I'd take you seriously.

It's not blabbing when I provide links and facts to back my arguments, whereas you're either typing out of your a** or making unsubstantiated statements.

Yar'Adua spent $5b on NIPP in 2 yers. GEJ spent $8b on NIPP in 5 years. Maybe you should help me find out how much OBJ spent on the NIPP in 2 years.

Right now, the NIPP is like the refineries.

I maintain that the bulk of OBJ's $16b spending was not on the NIPP, like you erroneously assumed. And I backed it up with facts.

The bottom line is that if OBJ hadn't constituted the NIPP, Yar'Adua wouldn't have to spend that $5b, and GEJ wouldn't have had to spend $8b (if they did, it would have been on more useful things like rural electrification and improving transmission capacity). And I bet Buhari is spending his own billions on the same NIPP. Because like the refineries, the NIPP na person ATM. Yet OBJ would have clearly spent above $10b regardless of the NIPP. So who among the three was wasteful?

I don't know why it's hard for you to think critically. I know you're capable of doing so, but for reasons best known to you, you choose not to.

Of course every human with a functioning brain knows there was a reason why the power dropped to such low levels, same way there are also explainable reasons why the power drops intermittently till date. So why did you bloody mention that GEJ handed over 2000MW if you weren't trying to be mischievous?

Do you hear yourself?

You know there was a reason why it fell to 2000MW. You know it was usually around 4500MW under GEJ. Yet you felt the need to mention that on the week of the handover, it fell to below 2000MW without stating the reason why. Does that not reek of political meandering?

Once again, nowhere did I say the generation level was permanently below 2000mw, I only said the power dropped below 2000mw on the week before handover. My simple question is that why did you have to mention that it dropped below 2000MW on the week before handover without stating the reason why? Even more importantly, why did you have to share that information, without being objective to explain why, in the same post that you were accusing GEJ of being corrupt and wasteful?

Or do you think you're conversing with a kid?

I've told you. This is a new year. Leave those your stupid*ty and political mischief in 2017.

You people must really think Nigerians are stupid, dumb, reterdded, have amnesia or memory loss.

You can cut and dice your meaningless rubbish anyway you like, but we know we gave the PDP/Jona 16 years and $20 billion to give us stable electricity, but all they did was stole the $20 billion and gave us continued darkness in return, we basically spent 16 continued years in darkness, lost 16 years and our $20 billions in private bank accounts.

Jona wasn't any different, he was part of the same crooked, corrupt and incompetent PDP government that kept us in darkness even after your so-called privatization and selling off valuable government power assets to his and PDP cronies for cheap, they didn't have power business experience and zero funds to invest and improve their operations.

The only reason we are doing better today is because of the competent people we have running and making strategic decisions in the power ministry and other government agencies working in tandem and in sync across the board to make sure we stay on track and keep moving forward.

Jona left the same MWs and inefficient power system he met with zero improvements, but we've moved past that and in less than 3 years and we have fully efficient agencies capable collaborating and addressing serious outages within hours with minimum disruptions.

1. They addressed the problem in record time.

2. The collaborated across several agencies to get it done.

3. The issued a timely public service announcement to clearly explain and articulated what happened, how they address the situation and ultimately the most import thing, calming public fears and anxieties.

These acts should be normal in Nigeria, but never have been till now which we find very refreshing, it says a lot about the people running the system at this point, it says a lot about their competence, dedication, and sense of duty and savvy public relations skills.

There's absolutely no need to keep boring us with the PDP and GEJ because Nigerians gave them 16 years and $20 billion to solve our power crisis, but they failed and left us in darkness, but in less than 3 years and without $20 billion power funds, we are seeing dramatic change across the board not only in improved power supply but also in the competence and positive attitude of the people running the system.

You can bore us with all the worthless essays your heart desire, but we are not going back to the dark ages your PDP uncles left for us to endure.

Oga, even if I'm mad, I wouldn't debate sh*t with you.

At least I know obailala problem is bias and selective reporting, although he has the capacity to reason. Bigass wouldn't read to save his/her life. Your own is that you simply do not have the capacity to think for yourself. Your brain is underdeveloped. I'm pretty sure you have a single-digit IQ, and that's me being generous.

If I climbed to your ego, it'd take me years to fall to your IQ. So anywhere you see my post, jump am pass.

You're saying there are dramatic changes, yet the range of electricity generation has been the same since 2014 till date. The average number of annual grid collapses has been the same since 2014 till date.

If you are saying a tweet to explain the first collapse of this year is "competence and positive attitude" for the first time in more than 2 years, forgive me for being skeptic until it happens consecutively for at least a dozen other times this year before I agree with you.

Because at least since 2014, the TCN has been giving updates about every collapse, like the CBN gives quarterly update about the rates since forever. Saying a tweet shows competence pretty much buttresses my point that your brain is underdeveloped.

Your madness don enter new gear.

GEJ spent over $8b on NIPP in 5 years -- https://www.businessdayonline.com/fg-spends-8-26bn-on-power-sector-inaugurates-nipp-olorunsogo-ogun/

Yar'Adua spent over $5b on NIPP in 2 years -- https://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/08/power-sector-senate-probes-obj-yaradua-jonathan/

OBJ spent over $6b on the same NIPP in 2 years.

Note that they are the same links you provided.

Now let me ask you, if three successive governments spent over $19b on one project (and a fourth one is still spending) and the project isn't complete yet, is that project a good idea? I don't know what your problem is. Why are trying so hard to be s*lly?

Yar'Adua and GEJ had already zeroed their mind to privatize PHCN, but they had to meet the power generation commitments started by OBJ. Buhari is also meeting the same commitments. The NIPP is a white elephant project. So again I ask, who is more wasteful?

Since you have trouble comprehending, the question is why did you have to mention the drop during the handover week, without stating the reason?

Your entire post reeked of "it happened under GEJ, so keep shut about it happening under PMB," but you didn't give any perspective. How hard would it have been for you to explain why the collapse is usual, and use GEJ or Yar'Adua or OBJ's time as an example.

Your post was more about demonizing GEJ and his efforts in the electricity sector than explaining why the collapse under PMB was not unusual.

If you can't be objective abstain from making cynical jabs.

Common get off it. GEJ was defeated and he's not coming back. Stop comparing PMB with GEJ . Compare PMB with what standard is supposed to be. Criticise him but stop comparing him with GEJ.

You did not say "over $8b." And $8.26b is not $8.5b.

Cross-check your figures before posting them or you'll be called out. Very simple.
Shut up and stop fooling yourself further. Accept that you goofed and just shut up already.

Dumbito, is this not part of the same post?

And then I asked where did I state GEJ spent nothing, and then you went on a shameful tirade.

Now who has comprehension problems?
Quit this your by-force daftness, even an infant or an idiot knows some money was definitely spent on the power sector, I dont have to explain the use of a hyperbole to a grown adult. Within the same context where I mentioned "GEJ spent nothing", I had earlier used "GEJ didnt spend much" and that should be clear enough for any sane adult to comprehend my point. I know you are educated, so use your brain and stop quoting me to repeat this nonsense about "GEJ spending nothing" vs "GEJ not spending much."

So because 3 Nigerian presidents in 16 years squandered over $19billion on NIPPs and couldnt effectively boost Nigeria's power generation, your brain now interprets it that NIPPs are bad projects?... And all this senselessness is just in a desperate bid to demonize OBJ for initiating the NIPPs and exonerate GEJ for spending over $8bn with no clear results?... Did someone sacrifice your brain to some diabolic deity?

Your daftness is truly on steroids. I was gracious enough to clearly explain the reason why I mentioned the power grid failure in the week of handover, but you probably did not bother reading my last response, or you were just too compulsively daft to comprehend what I was saying. I'm sorry, I wouldn't be responding to this your stupid question again, if you need that answer, you can seek the services of your primary 2 nephew/neice or child to read and explain to you what I wrote in my last response to you.

How about you take your own advice?

Confirm your figures before posting it as gospel truth. How is that so difficult to do, that you have to be so recklessly adamant?

There is no such thing as "what standard is supposed to be" in Nigeria.

We aren't ever going to have the Mandelas, Lees, and Dengs. Our current political system can't produce nor support such visionaries. And even though we have the Iweals, Dukes, Adesinas, and Ribadus that could theoretically perform better than our past (and present) leaders, there is ZERO guarantee that they too would not be bogged down by the ethnicity, sycophancy, religious, and a dozen other interests and factors that had thwarted the efforts of previous leaders.

For example, as much as PMB is an Islamist, the lack of a proper response to the Fulani militia madness is partly because he doesn't care, and partly because that could put him at loggerheads with the core of his supporters who are Islamic fundamentalists and mostly Hausa-Fulani. With 2019 around the corner, and the South belatedly fed up with him, I'd wager PMB is not ready to commit political suicide regardless of how many people die.

Ditto for GEJ. After the debacle that was Boko Haram, with the push against the war from the Northern corridor, and the saboteurs he had to deal with, he wasn't willing to start off another round of merry-go-round with the Fulani militia, lest it be affirmed as him being anti-Fulani. The Fulani militia killed over 1000 people in 2014.

There's no Presidential candidate currently that'd do anything tangible about the menace, not until it leads to a major crisis. Not Buhari, not Atiku, not Kwankwaso, not Dankwambo, not even Fayose. In a sane country, this wouldn't be so.

And that is the primary reason why I'd compare Buhari or whoever comes after him with the most advanced democratic leader we've had in 60 years. He may not be coming back, but he's set the bar everyone after him must cross to prove their mettle.

If you have a problem with that, you can either take a bow or use a bloody rope to do the needful. I'm not writing to impress anyone.
