Thank you all for this trend!
I want to admit that I have a cousin who has been a victim of this HND issue. But in order for him to get past it, he decided to enrol for PGD and currently doing his MSc.
Although, he has earlier enquired from some universities that he will be eligible for PHD after his MSc.
Now my question,
1)is it advisable to still run BSc or just continue with the MSc since he will be allowed to run PHD?
2)if he then goes to run BSc after his MSc, won't there be issues about the order of his certificates (HND, PGD, MSc, BSc, instead of HND, BSC, MSC)?

Thanks for quality responses!

after is MSC, he can apply to any university for BSc or a BSc top-up(some universities in Nigeria have it now, many universities in the UK offers it)...

The truth is that even with your Ph.D. thru an HND, you cant lecture a university student in most schools in Nigeria...

It depends on your course of study.
If you're studying Bus admin, accountancy, & applied sciences, then you should try to graduate from HND with an upper credit. Unilag's Distance learning institute will grant you admission to start from 300 level.
All you need is to buy the form and seat for an entrance exam . Though it is a part time program, you will get same Bsc certificate as other Unilag graduates.
God bless u for this. People need to know

Yeah, pls advice ur cousin to try and go for Bsc even his Msc. As Nigeria is concern HND is like a waste, though some HND graduands make it in life but majority are not finding it funny at all.

If you have a credit pass in further maths and it's at one sitting, just choose further maths.

Is it because HND didn't work for you in the past now you are hellbent in trying to disuade others from pusuing their dreams in the polytechnic, that is wicked and unethical on your part.
So many people have been deceived by the falsehood you post up there, these life sha.
NOTE:A fool will believe anything but wiser people watch their step.

Lol He say unethical... I laugh for you in dichotomy.

The truth is there is no dream at all in the polytechnic. The ones you take there are killed if not carefully protected. I have about 5 relatives who have obtained HND with a minimum of upper credit division. They all advised I dare never to return for HND, else, I'd simply be limited and opportunities would pass me by.

One works in a local government but can't rise above certain cadre. He's quite unhappy about it. Another had connections but she was told the required qualification is a degree. Another got a slot to work with Ogun State civil service but HND holders were never invited for the interview. Someone else filled the slot.

Sir, be ye not deceived, and don't bother consoling yourself. HND is simply evil, I've seen those who are still facing hell for having it. Avoid it like a plague and be happy with yourself. Having HND isn't condemnable but getting your B.sc is best.

The true is that, who God want to bless, no matter what qualification you're carrying, He will still bless you.

Please I have a question.
If one successfully top up his HND to BSc with a recognized school in Nigeria, how possible can you proceed to master abroad ? The reason for my question is this, I read in one school in Canada that for you to be considered for masters, you must have BSc with study period of not less than 3yrs.

My fear is that, if you top up in 2yrs, won't this be reflected in your result and thereby falling short of the above threshold?

Please a well informed individual should clear me on this.

Absolutely true,, years back, my uncle once told me its better to study paper and nylon in a university than "medicine in a polytechnic",, he works with FFS.

Do you know HND holders in FFS, NSCDC and other paramilitary agencies under ministry of interior don't use star (except for accounting and engineering graduates). They use "bar" while Bsc holders use "star". Infact HND graduates don't go beyond level 12 in these paramilitary agencies and Bsc holders can get as far as level 18. I heard they're fighting against this discrimination, don't know how far with it now.

How true?
And what level can hnd engineering reach in the ministry?

someone very close to me was a contract staff in a bank for 7 years. However I encouraged him to do a part time degree programme at Oou during the period. Luckily for him, the very year the bank did conversion for some of its contract staff who had Bsc was the year he got his degree cert. Today he's professional staff in their audit department. He has also done some certifications.

The advice is this: if you're employed as a contract staff with HND, immediately enrol for part time degree programme. I reccommend OOU. Their part time programme is fast but somewhat expensive.
how much and how long?
