I heard a lot of nice things about it. Decent job availability, not as expensive as Toronto, not as cold as Calgary, it's green, lots of play grounds for kids, voted the best place to live as an immigrant in Canada.

At the end though, we'll stay wherever we get the best job offers. We're here now and like it but we're open to moving if need be.

There's something that I've been wondering about. How come the unemployment rate in canada is 6% meaning more than 500k people don't have jobs yet canada is inviting immigrants to work there? Are there people who prefer to be on unemployment benefits like in some US states or
maybe the way the number is calculated?
For a country with such a small population of 36 million, the 6% seems too high considering the US with 10 times the no. of people has only 4.6% unemployment rate.

Otherwise, any one here staying in Windsor ON. Am still doing research on the best places to stay once my PPR comes through and am trying to decide between alberta, ottawa and windsor. Any advice will be appreciated.

Please for those that have landed and carried USD cash I have a question; Please did your bank accept the USD when u opened an account, if yes. What rate did they convert your USD to CAD. Otherwise what is the best way to convert your USD to CAD when one lands, I know say them no get black market like Naija �.

CIBC opens a USD account for you along with the CAD accounts and you can then transfer from you USD account to your CAD account when needed or when the rate is suitable. You can transfer via online banking ( takes 24hrs) or at the bank (is immediate).

Ps - I never chk the rates Sha, I just transfer when needed. The rates are always reasonable, in my opinion.

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. Pride always contributes to unemployment in so many developed countries including our fellow africans in South Africa. They just dont want to be seen doing certain menial jobs once they spot an immigrant who just landed in a blue collar job.

Anyways, how are you handling the winter over there in the east coast? Been reading in the news about how the US east coast is struggling with all kinds of snow storms and ice bombs. Apparently it's the coldest it's ever been.

Yes. It is expensive to move and not so convenient. I am assuming you have a family too. Budget 5k~10k. A family of 4 that last made the move spent around 7k.

Just to let you know, its still pretty new, used it only for 2 weeks during vacation and it comes with a transparent nylon rain/winter shield that can be worn onto the stroller to prevent the pretties from the elements.(I hope to find the stroller shield in the house, my wife said she sighted it sometime ago somewhere in the house, I'll find it especially because of the triplet ) You will love it altogether!

This is wrong on so many levels.

Two Points:
- Entitlement is not exclusive to Caucasians. Furthermore, the calculation for the unemployment rate typically excludes people that are not looking for jobs.
- There are several reasons that contribute to unemployment in Canada including (but not limited to) government policies, job seasonality (which affects thousands of Canadians) and obviously the recent oil price crash (which has slowed down the economy especially in the West).

Hi, I landed and did not give any address at the airport as I went to a hotel from there. I told the officer that I would update an address online when I get a fixed abode. The guy shook my hand and told me to ride on. You can update your address or change it within 180 days of landing at this link, https://services3.cic.gc.ca/ecas/introduction.do?app=coanotify

So I got my ppr at the beginning of the week and now I can properly join the group. Here's a bit of my profile as I would be needing advice on how to change career paths back to IT.

First degree: IT
Experience: Banking - funds transfer, customer service.
Certification: CCNA(expired though)

Pls what steps can I take to get back into the IT field. Any bridging program I can partake in? Certifications to get before landing that could get my foot in the door.

really??hmm, well from my own experience, you need to get a person on ground to follow up with the responsible department. Sometimes, thy abandon verification request and only respond if pushed. So try and get someone to follow up, it is much faster that way.
