Hello brothers and sisters of Afemai tribe, i hail from Anegbette in Estako central local government area of Edo state . it is a great honour to meet and discuss our glorious tribe, dialect and aspirations as a people.
Speakers of Afemai are also welcomed to share the language with us. unfortunately I don't know how to speak the dialect.

Afemai is a geographical enclave located in the northern part of Edo State in Nigeria. It is located north – east of Benin City, the State’s Capital and it is the North Senatorial District of Edo State.
Structurally, Afenmai is made up of six Local Government Areas. The six Afemai Local governments and their administrative headquarters are: Akoko-Edo (Igarra); Etsako Central – Fugar, the Administrative Headquarters of the defunct Kukuruku Division until 1920; Etsako East – Agenegbode, a town located on the bank of the River Niger; Etsako West – Auchi, the Administrative Headquarters of all Afenmai from 1920 to 1963; Owan East – Afuze; and Owan West – Sabongida Ora
History has it that the six Local Government Areas which makes up Afemailand once existed as a single division which was first known as Kukuruku division. It was formally renamed Afemai Division in 1956 by the then Western Region House of Assembly.
Afemai Fathers are believed to have migrated from Benin between the 13th and 15th centuries. The only exception is Igarra (Etuno), a clan that traces its descent to
Igalaland of which Idah is the seat. And with the exception of Igarra, Afemai Fathers form one of the Edo-speaking groups.
However, differences abound between the dialect of Afenmai and the Binis on one hand and between the peoples of Afenmai on the other. The peoples of the various sub-regions, as dictated by proximity, however, speak closely related dialects and have a common culture.
Afemailand is rich in culture and tradition. The people are a mixture of traditional worshipers, Muslims, and Christians groups. Their marriage and death ceremonies
are streamlined alongside these religions. Traditional Festivals are held throughout Afemai at various times and in various places.
At AfemaiPeople.com, our aim is to share knowledge about Afemailand, it people, its culture, music and traditions. We also aim to create a platform for Afemai People anywhere in the world to converge and interact, with a view to moving the region forward.

LAck of history in school programs is making you guys a little bit confused.
Esanlandi land is part of the Benin Kingdom.
Esan people are EDO.
We Edo have only one king: Omo n'Oba n'Edo.

Some ancient maps of Benin Kingdom:

This one dates to around 1699:
http://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/btv1b8595525w/f1.item.r=Benin.zoom

An other map of Benin made in the 17th century once again:
http://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/btv1b530530714.r=Benin?rk=214593;2

An other map of Benin from the 17th century:
http://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/btv1b8595583b.r=Benin?rk=193134;0

This one date to the 19th century:
http://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/btv1b8469390z/f1.item.r=Benin.zoom

An other map from the 17th century:
http://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/btv1b8595527q/f1.item.r=Benin.zoom

Many of you guys keep confusing Benin City with Benin Kingdom. Benin City is the capital of Benin Kingdom.

The Edo people need to find out about the Oru and Efa that were the aboriginal owner of Bini before the Yoruba and Edo. If the Afemai are not the Efa people, my apology.

But before the Yoruba or Edo in Bini, there were Oru, Efa and the Ijaw.

Yes, I am EDO.
I studied precolonial maps of the Benin Kingdom. Those maps were made by several european traders who visited our kingdom and our Oba.
We are one people. We actually had a developped country called Benin Kingdom before we were invaded by the british in 1897.

How about a site where one can learn the language?

I think afemai.com should not restrict their site to only news about Afemai land. They should also post some words and their meanings.

Afẹmai ne keekha. vha moo.
