FG Urges Restraint In Media Coverage Of Farmers/herders’ Crisis by Islie: 8:47pm On Jan 13, 2018
Olusola Fabiyi , Abuja

The Federal Government has appealed to the media and public commentators to exercise utmost restraint in their coverage of the fallouts of the recent farmers /herders ’ clash in Benue State in order not to further inflame passion and worsen the situation.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday , the Minister of Information and Culture , Alhaji Lai Mohammed , said while the Federal Government was working hard to address the situation with a view to preventing a recurrence , not just in Benue State but everywhere across the country, it was incumbent on the media and public commentators not to engage in actions that can aggravate the crisis.

He said , ”Lest we are misunderstood , we are neither saying the media should not cover the crisis nor asking public commentators to desist from commenting on it . All we are saying is that both must be circumspect.

” The current poisoned atmosphere of incendiary comments , unrestrained use of pictures and footages that offend human sensibilities as well as finger pointing can only exacerbate the situation and complicate ongoing efforts to end the crisis. ”

Mohammed said the Federal Government is absolutely saddened by the loss of lives and the destruction of property resulting from the crisis, and recalled that Buhari , in commiserating with the Benue State Governor , Samuel Ortom, unreservedly condemned the killings and also assured him of the necessary security measures to prevent further attacks and bring the perpetrators to book .

He said the Federal Government had also mapped out short and long -term solutions to the incessant clashes between farmers and herders , including a planned conference of stakeholders.

To President Buhari.

And of course your entire media entourage, which is not limited to Lai Mohammed or any body that make's a living from you,but as far as your supporters online or in real life .

I cannot be silenced. I refused to be silenced.

What restraint are we talking about again?are you really saying we all should kowtow to all your whims and caprices and not complain about the killings we are seeing?I know you and your media crew are not that dumb to tow that line.

Some of us supported you because we felt the corruption was just too much under Goodluck, but did not take into congnizance some other parts of your character i.e the encouragement, silence and tacit approval of the Fulani's to go around killing people.

Never again.

In the words of Patrick Obahiagbon ‘ it is a pitiable pity that pity cannot pity a pity’. This is what governance has been reduced to. When 7 governors are holding closed door meeting to urge Buhari to recontest in the midst of some many killings by Fulani herdsmen.

Shame!

The APC government seems to be more interested in how people react to the killings than stopping the killings.

Shame on the FG that cannot guarantee security of innocent people but can guarantee freedom of Fulani militias.

It is disheartening that the President, a Fulani man will not utter a word while these attacks continue and will not visit the victims personally.

Lai and crew wish this bad news cycle to just go away.

Per this report, it appears his major concern is not the wanton destruction and barbarism of the deaths but how it really paints his disaster of a principal in terrible, pathetic light that even his lying, over-worked propaganda can't keep up with.

Lai should stop being a coward and advice his principal to declare fulani herdsmen terrorist. that is what they are and the only thing acceptable.

Wicked lying mohmad and co,they are only concerned about what people are saying about them on social media, but the killing of farmers is none of their damnable business.

The media are simply telling the news. That's their job.

It's up to Lai Mohammed and his government to stop the herdsmen so that the media would have nothing to report about them.
