Bitcoin’s value grew by more than 1,300% in 2017, but that wasn’t enough to even place it among the 10 best-performing cryptoassets of the year.

Cryptoassets include standalone cryptocurrencies as well as tokens issued on the ethereum blockchain. Our ranking is based on a comparison of the yearlong gains made by the 100 most valuable cryptoassets as of Dec 31. 2017.

Ripple’s big gains—it rose an astonishing 35,000%—came largely at the tail end of the year. Here’s how its 2017 looked compared to bitcoin. Ripple rocketed higher by almost 50,000% over the trailing 52-week period, beginning on Jan. 1, 2017. Ripple announced that seven global banks were testing out its blockchain technology in June 2016, but didn’t get a ton of recognition until American Express and Banco Santander were snagged in November 2017 by Ripple for a real-world cross-border payment test.

Bitcoin fares slightly better when compared against rival cryptocurrencies, meaning tokens with their own blockchains. This excludes tokens issued through so-called initial coin offerings (ICOs), which were a craze last year. Bitcoin makes it to eighth (last) place in this ranking (most popular), although it’s still trounced by ethereum and litecoin. http://www.nigeriasaving.com/top-cryptocoin-2017/
