Somehow, I noticed that Urhobos and Yorubas
tend to even marry a lot... even Urhobos
and Itsekiris have a lot of intermarriages.


I have Urhobo friends that have Itsekiri mothers and Itsekiris that I know
like Prof. Itse Sagay and the Vanguard Newspaper Publisher, Chief Sam Amuka-Pemu
have Urhobo mothers!


RMD's father is actually an Urhobo man
while his mother is Itsekiri. That is where
Eyimofe the Itsekiri name comes from!


A lot of what you wrote are NOT even known

Someone I knew back in my undergraduate days in Nigeria had
"Okoro" as his surname. He was a full-blooded, pounded yam-loving Ekiti
guy!

Okoro has something to do with "bitterness" according to the Ekiti version. Urhobos also bear Okoro
as surnames. Oko has something to do
with "man" in Itsekiri and Urhobo.

On the other hand Itsekiris use the spelling
: Ogedegbe! In other parts of Yoruba, Ogedengbe with a letter "n" is used.

Itsekiris also use Omatsola, Omawumi etc.
Omosola and Omowumi are the Yoruba
equivalents.

Itsekiri language is classified as Eastern
Yoruboid just like the Ondo state sub groups.

Okay... Itsekiris are Yoruboid and Edoid
in terms of ancestry and culture.

Before the arrival of Prince Ginuwa [his mother
was from Ife] with 70 of his royal supporters from Benin after he had to go on
exile because of a cultural violation, there were
already Itsekiris of Yoruba ancestry of Ijebu, Ilaje
and Ife origins in the Itsekiri region of Delta
State.


Prince Ginuwa [whose father was Oba Olua
of Benin] arrived in Ode-Itsekiri in the 1480s
and met Chief Lenuwa and his people of Ijebu origin
who accepted and his entourage on learning
he was of Royal origin from Benin. Prince
Ginuwa eventually became the FIRST Olu of the
Itsekiris. I must add that the Itsekiri language
is similar to Yoruba dialects of the Eastern
Yoruba regions [Ijebu, Ilaje], with Edo words
and Portuguese loan words as well!


Omadino is another Itsekiri community
that was founded by Ijebus just like
Ode-Itsekiri.


The oil-rich Ugborodo [otherwise called
Escravos] was founded over 500 years
ago by Ilaje people who migrated eastward
from Ugboland in Ondo State...which shares
boundaries with Itsekiriland in Delta State.


The popular "George fabric" was first used
by the Itsekiris several centuries back
because of their early contact with the
Portuguese and other European explorers
even before the Binis.

Itsikeri are Edo (Meaning: first class citizens of Benin Kingdom, like Urhobo or Anioma ...), they used to be politically aligned with the south-west. But it ends there.

Usen is another one. Their original migratory stock is at Okelusen in Ondo state which is at an higher elevation (hence the name).
