Intertribal Marriage by Hybridz: 8:46am On Feb 17, 2018
Good morning fellas!
I've always wanted and pray to practice a intertribal marriage right from my mid-teenage years. This is however becoming a daunting task by the day.I mean intertribal between core tribes from Southern and Northern Nigeria without any political game attached to it.
For those already in such marriage,pls,kindly share your experience on;
1) The challenges faced before tying the knot and how you overcame it?
2) How you managing the cultural differences?
3) Managing the in-laws and other close relatives
4) Your fears before you finally made up your mind to Damn all unforeseen consequences and propose to your woman or say i do to your man.

I eagerly await your inputs.....thanks in advance.

It looks appealing.
Most folks do it either out of desperation, curiosity or plain stupidity.
The stupidity of seeing themselves as the ones to unite the country through their marriage.

One thing I am very sure of is that,
The bible discouraged inter-tribal marriages.

GENESIS 24: 1-6

. 2 One day Abraham said to his oldest servant, the man in charge of his household, “Take an oath by putting your hand under my thigh. 3 Swear by the Lord, the God of heaven and earth, that you will not allow my son to marry one of these local Canaanite women. 4 Go instead to my homeland, to my relatives, and find a wife there for my son Isaac.”

GENESIS 28

28 Isaac called Jacob and blessed him and commanded him, You must not marry a Canaanite woman. 2 Go to the house of Bethuel, your mother’s father, in Northwest Mesopotamia. Laban, your mother’s brother, lives there. Marry one of his daughters.

INFERENCE AND MORAL

Intertribal marriages in Nigeria are known for their low success rates.

Also at old age, most wives go back to settle in their maiden homes.
Children from intertribal marriages have been proven to be more inclined to their mom's tribe while seeing themselves as strangers to their actual tribe.

You'd tolerate a wrong from your spouse if she was from your tribe.

Lastly, since it is biblical; don't use your marriage for 'try-your-luck'.
PLEASE!!!

We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are

Our tribes don't matter in the grand scheme of things

Inter tribal marriage is a no no. QED!

Parents don't give their total blessings!

There are always key family members opposed to the marriage from onset. Many silently pray it ends in divorce to discourage others. When the travails of marriage set in and reality dawns, young couples fade in their professed love. Challenges of marriage make d man and d woman wish they had listened to those who had not supported the union. Besides there are cultural shocks, language barriers, partial acceptance by family members, and disconnect from own family. Adaptation is not easy. The woman is worse off - always at the receiving end, with many regrets at later years.

Offsprings are neither fully here nor there.

The success rate is about 50% for the rich and some 35% for the not rich.

The truth is the mindset of Nigerians needs to seriously be worked on before we as a nation can prosper....either financially, spiritually or economically.
For Gods sake, any marriage can fail. Any marriage can be successfully.
Yes, granted that inter tribal marriages has its own peculiar challenges, it doesn't mean that people who sincerely enter it won't succeed. For Gods sake, intra tribal marriages also fail too. So what are we not saying?

Marriages from people of different tribes will prosper and can prosper if both parties do their best to stay the best. Its God that keeps a home standing....not money or same tribe or same language.

This is your reason? Based on facts you can't prove? What makes you think you are of a generation with the same tribe? Lmaoooo! Dude, we're all mixed!
